Open Land

Just curious jeff and to anyone else, awile back there had been talk about renovating back by thunder canyon, and removing some of the old stuff back there to make room for some newer things, i figured thats what they meant when they said about putting in the maXair ride, obviously not. just curious as to what is planed for that area and if anything will be done, because it is quite dull. 1 antique car ride is enough right? and there is quite a bit of space back there.

looking at the map i noticed that there is lots of space back there. thunder canyon, white water landing, swan boats, and antique cars take up a fair bit of room back there. lets face it, thunder canyon isnt a very fun ride, sure it goes through some rapids and under some waterfalls but there arent many thrills involved. there are so many better things that they could put in that area. those 4 rides back there are very old and need to be updated, thats my opinion.

CP has to keep a wide range of "thrills" to maintain it's family appeal. You can't eliminate everything and only build giant coasters. Rides like Thunder Canyon are a good balance for families who can't enjoy TTD or MF together.

Swan Boats are gone.

my bad, i realized that after, i was looking at a map from 2003 and i realized it after i posted it. what they could do is build a newer version of thunder canyon because the current ride is getting a bit old.

Even if I knew what they had planned I wouldn't tell you.

I don't have any connections. I just have a lot of friends around the industry. It's a small industry, and it's not easy to keep secrets.

jeff, it wasnt meant to be a top secret "lets talk" thing, just a simple question, becuase obviously you know alot about the place. but on the other hand, im not talkign about giant coasters being built, yea that nice, but i do know that you have to balance it, but why not with newer water thrills in that area? something that is quite appealing to everyone!

Vince982's avatar

why did they get rid of swan boats? they didnt put anything new in that area did they?

they havent.... yet. ;)

They moved the Swan Boats to Michigan's Adventure in Muskegon, MI. They fit much better there, anyway.

Jeff, those are known as connections.

I don't know why people continue to bug you about who/what you know. The minute you say anything about a black project it becomes the last minute you will ever hear anything again.

bholcomb, the Swan Boats don't fit anywhere. The only reason they "fit" at Michigan Adventure is because of the giant pond in the middle of the park, as opposed to the puddle they were in before. We did it once on opening day this year, it sucked, we never bothered again. I wouldn't mind seeing a coaster go over the pond, but thats just me.

Goodbye MrScott

I still enjoy Thunder Canyon immensely, as do most people I've been to the Point with. Concerning those rumors about White Water Landing being removed this year, I wouldn't be surprised at all if what we had coming in 2006 was right in that area.

Magnum still rocks.

I don't think any realizes how much room there is back there--next time your there---several months from now ;-(--take a ride on the train and take a look how much room is there. Now add that to the room by Thinder Canyon, White Water Landing, the old carosel building, the swings, swans and the antique cars. More than one large coaster coaster will fit there.

I actually think the swan boats were nice at CP. But hey, that's just me.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

Although there does appear to be a plethora of room in the back for development, I kind of like it how it is currently. Its like Frontiertown and the Frontiertrail are the only things left of the "older" cp life. That area constantly seems to avoid major updates with the last big one being the Mean Steak in 1991. Its like an area to go relax and get away from the crowds on the hot humid summer days. This is all my opinion of course. I've heard many people comment about Thunder Canyon and its lacking areas; plus after visiting Disney and Universal Studios this past fall with there versions of the water styled ride, I guess it could be refuber to include more in the ride. For instance at Disney's animal kingdom on Kali River Rapids we were traveling along normally and then there is a huge drop. It would be cool if they could update the ride somewhat. However, I think while many improvements could be made, its cool how it is.

Vince982's avatar

i agree with you ejh1701, thunder canyon could use an improvement like that to spice it up.

You're talking about 2 totally different generations of rides.
The new "raft" rides that appear at Disney and Universal are nothing like the 80's Intamin versions are.
