On ride pictures

On the Gemini, we would try to take cameras before people boarded the ride. We would return them after they rided. If we didn't see any cameras until the end of the ride, there was really nothing we could do about it.
Is "rided" a word?
CoasterJamin there is one reason that the "marketing of on-ride photos" argument doesn't wash.

The primary reason some of us like to shoot photos or video on board the rides is because there is no other way to obtain those shots!

What I don't understand is why...

o Picture-taking is verboten but cameras are not...although some cameras are safer in a shooting position than they are stowed (my old camcorder, for instance).

o Small cameras are frowned upon, but large souvenir mugs are not.

Ah, well...My camcorder has ridden every coaster at Cedar Point that I rode last year, but I haven't taken an on-ride picture of any kind up there (except from Giant Wheel, Space Spiral, or Sky Ride) since 1981.

Is putting your hands up on a coaster prohibited?? I never heard anything about it being prohibited. I keep mine up on most coasters I did the whole ride on MF. No one said anything to me and other people do it so?

They tell you to keep your hands and arms inside the cart at all times but no one listens as we all know! But they have to say that ;)

I am just as guilty of taking on ride pics as some of us here are, and although it was WRONG let me just say I never did it until I was 100% confident I could take the pic and not injure a fellow rider with my disposable going 93mph.
Let me also say that I havent done it since being an actual CP employee who said at least 500x this past season
"this is a 12 million dollar roller coaster NOT a Kodak moment, I do not know what a camera would feel like at 60mph and I am sure none of you want to know either" During MF Media Day a reporter decided to be "smart" and attempt to take an on ride photo--her dig camera was completely SMASHED by the time it was recovered under the 1st hill.
I saw a bottle of sunscreen go FLYING past us going over the 2nd hill on MF-it was BOOKING and although funny at the time and a funny story now (it belonged to a rider 3 seats behind me)
it wouldnt have been very funny if it had hit someone.
CP also states to keep all hands, arms legs inside the car at all times for legal reasons. If someone was to get hurt due to hands up (watch the MF supports and the Gemini support) then CP can not be held liable due to the person was told NOT to do it and decided to do it anyway.
Just remember on Raptor that we can see you going up the 1st hill so if you think you can "sneak" a pic we can see you!!

Dont forget to check our the Hotshot pics we took of you and if you dont like your picture-buy someone elses!!!
Last year it was kind of funny, but also kind of dumb. I was waiting in line for the Blue Streak and I guess someone in the front wanted to take a picture of the drop, or the parking lot or something and a ride op. saw them and stopped them on the lift and on a loud speaker told them to put the camera away. It was kind of annoying, I mean to make everyone else wait just because someone wanted to take a picture from one of the smaller lift hills in the park. I know rules are rules, but sometimes people are just too strict...

Gemini needs an on-ride photo...
I've heard of people hitting their hands on a MF support, but has anyone ever hit their hand on a Gemini Support? I've become immune to the headhopping effect on Gemini, and I keep my hands WAY up for the one coming down the hill right before the final turnaround (which may be dumb) yet have never hit it. I am pretty tall too.

Also, wasn't Gemini modified once to give more clearance under one of the headchoppers?

Hitting hands on MF supports?? LOLOLOLOL..That comment just made my day :) ROTFLMAO. You do know that would break bones right?? I think someone has been pulling your leg. Those supports are feet.. yes feet from any danger by design! No Park or ride manufacturer is gonna put supports close enough to the car on a ride that goes 93mph.

Thanks for clearing that up Jeffrey! I am so tired of hearing the stories about people supposedly hitting their hands on one of the MF supports.

The only reason why I considered some of those stories viable is because Intamin may have messed up with their S:ROS's. They have a maximum height requirement, which has to do with fear of tall people loosing their hands, or fat people falling out.

Glad I made your day Jeffery Spartan :)

SROS, MF, Intamin, Arrow, B&M...whoever and whatever would never design a ride where any potential Danger is viable. All that is taken into consideration and human contact with the structure or track is next to impossible. The illusion of being close to touching is all it is, when in reality your never any closer than many feet from touching. Granted there have been Mishaps with rides I'm sure but not under normal riding conditions it won't happen... (meaning only in screw off situations like employee special treatment:)).

"normal riding conditions" wouldnt include someone lets say 6'5" leaning WAY out to the side during the bank turns, would it Jeff??

To ride or not to ride-what a STUPID question!!!

The max height requirement on the Supermen has to do with the very large man that got ejected at Darien Lake. He had no business being on the ride. Since the ride ops were too stupid to figure this out, they made a rule.

I don't buy that someone 6'5" can touch a support. I'm sorry, but looking at the envelope from the pull-through, I think people are imagining things:

Well Jeff, several people have purported to doing just that on the first overbank, but you can take that for what it's worth.

Anyway, back on topic, I have only done it twice (@ CP). Once at the base of the lift on Magnum and once about midway up the lift on Mean Streak. By the time we got to the crest of the lift, the camera was once again safely stowed.

Take it to da house!
I caught a man recording the entire ride on Raptor twice. I could not prove it the first time and the second time I told my TL and she called security. They took the guy away and took his tape. It is very dangerous to take pictures on rides. I remember waiting in line for french fries and a bottle of water came flying at me from the first drop on Raptor. Anything that has any sort of weight to it can severely hurt other people.
I got hit with a peice of paper on MF going down the first drop, and that stung (no I'm not a wuss, LoL) going at about 80 mph (not all the way down the hill yet).

I have never taken a picture on a ride, however if I could durring some ERT at a park, I would definatly.
