Older Guy. Would like to work at Cedar Point. Questions.

I 48 years old, and I have over 20 years of work experience in retail, and restaurant service. Just curious as to what my chances would be of landing a job at Cedar Point. And, how housing would work. I heard that you have to pay for housing? If so, how much? Is it taken out of your check? or do you pay it like any other rent?

I would like to get an indoor job. probably in admissions, or something where I am working inside. I don't mind outdoor work, only I burn like a lobster. I also would rather not be a ride operator. Working in a gift shop would be more my speed. And, with years of cashier experience, it would be familiar to me. I could also be a desk host at one of the resorts.

But, if I started, I would not be able to start until after memorial day. My mother passed away, and I am planning her memorial service for that saturday. (May 24th) Would that be too late to get started?

Have not decided yet. I want to know the inside take on cedar point employment before I decide if it is for me. Though I'm sure I would love it.

Being in your late 40's, with over 20 years experience gives you a very good chance of getting hired at Cedar Point. If you could come in June and stay the entire season (until closing day Nov. 2) you have an even better chance of getting hired! I started when I was in my late 40's and I am in my 4th season. My supervisors and several co-workers are older than I am!

There are quite a few "older" workers in both gift shops and indoor food service locations. Not sure about Admissions. It's good that you not hoping for a ride operator position, I'm not sure I've ever seen one over the age of 35.

Not in housing because I am a local but the cost of housing is taken out of your paycheck ($40 a week? or so but not sure) but you get paid every 2 weeks. Housing requires a $100 deposit to be made in cash that is due at processing in.

Hope that this helps.

There are older employees who work in admissions. There are some positions that are inside. (Season passes and cashierland. Cashierland is selling tickets at the front gate).

Housing prices vary depending on the housing type. I only know the price of common dorms, because I only stay at common dorms. As of last year, they were $5.71 a day ($39.97 per week; $79.94 per pay). The other housing are around the same price. Housing payment is taken out of your check. Like historynerd said, there is a $100 deposit when you process in.

You would be perfect for merchandise, I'm a team leader and I've seen many people in their 40's 50's and older. There are a lot of shops that are air conditioned, and some that aren't, but for the most part you won't be out in the hot sun. I don't have any idea about housing, but I've heard it's reasonable. I'm only about 15 minutes form the park so I don't need housing. You should apply, I know merchandise is still hiring. This is my 10th season, and I really like it.

It seems kind of late to apply. Many of us started the process when the jobs page first came online back in January. I wouldn't take too long thinking about it if I was you. He who hesitates is lost.

He who is more qualified could easily take the place of some punk not living up to expectations.

Cedar Point hires, new employees everyday of the season. It is never too late to apply.

You would probably be welcomed but would be treated like a teenager. Just sayin...

"Forgiveness is almost always easier to obtain than permission."

You not only will be welcomed, you will become a preferred employee the moment you apply -- the reality is, CP can not get ENOUGH employees -- they hire every day of the year, and they are especially thrilled when someone with work experience (really, ANY work experience) comes to their call...I worked there for many years in high school and college a long long time ago (seriously, 30 years ago) and a few years ago even I got a phone call from CP asking if I might be interested in seasonal employment (NOT)...

They especially are looking for people who can stay the entire season, since many of the young'uns disappear after mid-August as they head back to their high schools and colleges for marching band practice and whatnot...

Not only will they hire you with open arms, you might find yourself being promoted a couple times throughout the summer -- so you will have an awesome time of it.

By the way, as to Ride Ops - there are plenty in their 40's and 50's -- you just have to open your eyes and look around, and recognize that not all rides and attractions are coasters....

Have fun!
