OldCP'er's Labor Day

Woke the hubby up with a backrub at 5:45 am and pounded my son's door at 6 to get them up for the 2 hour drive. We left ALMOST on time at 7:10 am, and made the front gates by 9:15 for our Joe Cool ERT.

We hit Millennium Force first thing, and waited for the front. I rode with my son, the hubby rode the train afterwards. What a way to start the day. MF was flying better than ever and we got airtime over the first and second hills, as well as the bunny hop past the station. Much better ride than earlier in the season. Picked up a Freeway for 3-4 and headed to the front of the park.

Try as we might, just couldn't get Gordon to fit into WT. The ride op tried his best, but the combination of height and chest just wouldn't let us get the seatbelt latched. I was in my favorite second to last row for the awesome ride.

Raptor had a line, so we opted for Blue Streak, then the hubby went out to the car for a nap since he didn't get to bed the night before until 3 am.

Ian and I rode Power Tower up (10 mninute wait) and down (20 minute wait), then walked on to Corkscrew. Amazingly, we got two bumps of air and very little headbanging! I'm rethinking my view of Corkscrew.

We hitched a ride onto Chaos, and I couldn't help but wander about noticing the orange circles, triangles and x's on the pavement along PWE and surrounding Area 51. We headed to Magnum, saw a line, and opted for a back seat ride on Gemini. The fella in front of me was wearing a cap/visor that blew off on the first drop. I caught it mid air, and suggested he might not be so lucky next time.
Great air-filled ride. I've always like Gemini.

We sauntered over to Mean Streak and people in front said "30 minute wait! I'm not waiting for THIS" to which I pointed out the empty queue. MS was a walk on. We rode near the front, sighed over the trims and slow ride, and then hopped the train back to the main midway where we called Gordon on cell phone and arranged to meet by Raptor.

After a cooling down and lunch in the Midway Market, we saw Raptor was a walkon and grabbed two quick rides in the back before heading to MF for our Freeway at 3. There were ominous clouds to the northwest, and we no sooner got in line when the thunder started. Knowing they'd close MF down, and after assuring the hubby they WOULD let us back in later, we left the line and found cover in the "railway" station across from Toot Sweets just before the rain started.

We watched a couple of teens doing country line dancing in the rain, chuckled at an 18 month old who would run out of the shelter, get rained on, giggle and run back again, and generally chilled for a bit over an hour. MF began testing shortly before the rain quit, and we were back in line by 4:30 for a back seat ride. This was the first time Gordon rode the back of Millie and he was greatly impressed.

We walked the Frontier Trail, stopped for the traditional frozen custard, and worked our way back around to Magnum. We'd hoped the rain would have thinned the crowd out a bit, but not enough to lessen the line at Maggie. It couldn't have been more than 30 minutes, but neither Gordon nor Ian wanted to wait in line for a "thigh bruising" ride.

In fact, by that time I think they were both getting rather burned out, so we opted to head home. On the way past Raptor, we noticed it was a walkon, so we took our final ride of the day in the front row.

Gordon and Ian popped in some Alice in Chains to "keep mom awake" for the drive home.

All in all, a good trip, and we plan to make one or two more for Halloweekends.
