Arriving in time for Joe Cool allowed us to grab the front row on Dragster. My first time in the front and as everyone has said, it's a different thrill from that perspective! Nothing but track and wind! Awesome experience. Now, if I could only get onto a rollback!
I'm glad I previewed some of the GTTPer's pictures before going. Otherwise, I might not have recognized Ben Holcomb (bholcomb) in the Mickey D's in Oregon. What a chance meeting that was! And yes, I COULD have beaten you to a race, although I doubt the Ohio State Police would have appreciated us turning Route 2 in Oregon into a dragstrip! *WINK* It was funny the two youngsters in the pickup in the left turn lane next to me assumed I was asking them to race. Hee!
I also got to see Mr. Scott (easily recognizable since we've met before), and finally got to meet Raptor Jo very briefly. She had the audacity to go on break just as we got to Raptor's station, so we had to ride again until she came back. Unfortunately, we only had time for a quick hug and hello before I had to load into the front row, and she was gone again by the time our train returned to the station.
I'm sorry we didn't catch up with Berlin. I certainly hope he had a good time considering the massive crowd on Saturday. Such an unusual thing to happen on a halloweekend. Although I'm sure Mr. Kinzel was doing the happy happy joy joy dance, several employees we talked to were exhausted, especially those working in food service.
The only time I have ever seen a crowd as thick and shoulder-to-shoulder at CP like I did Saturday was on a 4th of July...my first and ONLY 4th of July trip. As much fun as I have hanging out with friends and just being at the point, that crowd makes even just hanging difficult. I talked to a woman in the MF line on Sunday who said traffic was backed up for miles on the turnpike and she and her family turned around and went home and decided to come back on Sunday instead. Wise choice.
I also played some DDR. Happy to say I managed to figure out the arcade machine enough to find the songs I like from DDR Max. I passed Rhythm and Police on Standard, but got a bit too cocky and failed at Cutie Chaser on heavy. I should have known better considering I still have trouble with the arcade version over the soft pads I'm used to.
We got our season passes for next season, and our free 2003 calendar posters of TTD. The season pass people were nice enough to retake my picture and give me a new 2003 pass so I didn't have to use the 3 year old picture when I mail my certificates back. The woman who took my picture said I looked 10 years younger in the new one, which, I said, is why I wanted the retake!
And finally, the trip home. I wonder how many GTTP'ers were stuck in the more than 10 mile backup on I-75 in Michigan on Sunday night. According to the traffic report, the backup began at exit 11 and ran for 10 miles, but we were two miles before that exit when traffic went to a standstill. Fortunately, TheRealCP was familiar with the area, so we got off at exit 11 and she navigated us to US 24. After hitting a McDonalds with a "closed lobby due to lack of crew" and a Speedway that had just locked their doors, we finally found an opened McDonalds so I could make a pit stop and get some much needed coffee. A couple miles further got us onto I-275 and I was home by 11:30 pm.
I fell into bed exhausted at midnight, and realized this morning why I rarely do three day trips to CP. These old bones just can't take that kind of abuse.
So, who is up for about closing weekend? *WINK*
I'll have a more detailed trip report up on my website if anyone is interested. Didn't want to clutter up GTTP with a rehash.

Forgot to mention about you on DDR. I wish I could do that game. Hopefully ztrooper's pics turned out good and we can get copies for ourselves. :D
