Ohio Turnpike

Eastbound on the Ohio Turnpike is a nightmare. Construction beginning at Sandusky funnels three lanes into one and traffic slows to a crawl. After miles of single lane driving construction ends only to resume again in 5-10 miles. Process repeats over and over again all the way to the Pennsylvania line. Added about 30-45 minutes to my trip. Not to mention that tolls increased by roughly 50%. Makes the PA. turnpke look good, not an easy task.

Construction on the Turnpike? During the summer? Really? That has never happened before. ;)

If you have the Fast Pass, you save significantly, and don't have to wait at toll booths.

That's why I love route 2!

Have seen construction on the turnpike before, but nothing close to the length and frequency of this year. Toll booth still is relatively quick. Fastpass might save a minute or so, but not much more.

I've been to CP three times this year. Took the Turnpike both ways on the first trip, on the way there on the second trip, and haven't seen it again since. Route 2 is my new road of choice. Between toll at the Ambassador Bridge and toll on the TP, it is $15.50 per trip. I don't have a choice in paying toll at the bridge, but I can save myself $6. Plus, route 2 is a much nicer drive.

As a side note, anyone ever get gas at the Turnpike rest stops? I got gas there at the end of last season and my car coughed and sputtered the whole drive home. My check engine light even came on. I haven't done it since.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

My girlfriend got stuck in stop and go traffic on the eastbound turnpike earlier this evening on her way home. Definitely a good summer for avoiding the turnpike if you can.
