Officially offered job and giving start date (before background check?)

I have no criminal record or felonies of any sort (short of perhaps a speeding ticket 4+ years ago) so I don't see any issue with a background check. I've been given a start date of this coming tuesday (processing in monday) BEFORE I actually did the cedarfair.com acceptance of the job (I've been keeping in touch via email with the manager hiring me)what is the possibility that the background check doesn't get done in time then what? Do I heed the managers dates or am I at the mercy of the background check? Also, I believe I had originally put down on my initial application that I would NOT require housing, however during my interview I had mentioned I MAY need housing...and after talking with my wife we decided housing would be better (help to avoid cedar point traffic, wear/tear on car, gas)....Whats the likely hood upon check in this coming monday I'd be able to receive housing? Just curious as to a former employees information.

Just tell HR when you process in that you need housing. No biggie.

I'm pretty sure when you applied you already signed off on them calling your previous employers, and allow them to check your background. It's normally in the fine print on most applications. They just don't go through with it, unless you're still interested after the interview process. As far as housing, make sure your home address, ON YOUR ID'S, doesn't fall within the 30 mile zone (I think it's 30 now). Otherwise you may have issues.
