I can keep my hands up for the entire ride on the Magnum. Well except for that first tunnel after the second hill. That's where I tuck them down slightly. While I'm sure that they won't get hit, psychologically I fear that they would. I'm curios about how much clearance there actually is.
Wildcat is the only CP coaster I've actually hit with my hands while riding.

Now that is Restaurant-Quality Lemonade!
I notice that with Millenium Force, the wooden structure that they installed in the second car for the pull-through is a wide arc...presumably meant to simulate both riders that had their hands up *AND* stuck out. If Millenium Force's ride structure can accomodate the "hand bubble" outside the train, I wonder if we'll be seeing CP's first hands-up advertisement with it.

(Though safety clearances or not, *I* wouldn't stick my hand out going through the first-turn finger tower!)

I have my hands up almost the whole time on Magnum. From the time we are about halfway up the hill to when we hit the airbrakes. I usually try to coax the people behind me to put their hands up. Then by the time we drop almost every person has their hands up. Whenever I ever any of the 3 tunnels I keep my hands up. So Raptor0137, unless you are some giant 7 footer, then you should be just fine entering that tunnel.

I am SURE that CP and some lawyers would have a hay day if they got a pic of us slapping hands on Gemini around the turns too-dont you think???
(This BTW is the practice on Kennywoods' Racers too)

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
Reach envelope testing is typically done on *all* rides. Next time you ride Schwabinchen, slide to the inside of the seat and reach towards the center and notice where the first light bulb is located. When MF passes the reach envelope test, we still won't see any hands-up advertising. Here's another experiment you can try. Next time you ride Mean Streak or Blue Streak, reach over the side of the car and place your hand on the *top of* the running board. Notice how easily you could reach right around the edge of the running board. DON'T TRY IT, because it *IS* possible to get your hand mangled on those rides if you do. The point is, while more than adequate precautions are taken to insure that obstacles are out of reach, there are still some problems which cannot be completely resolved regarding reach envelope. So to be safe, the advertising will continue to show riders who are apparently terrified out of their minds.

I also noticed that the instructions on Mean Streak read something along the lines of keep your hands DOWN and inside the car. I found this interesting that they went through the trouble to tell you to keep them down, yet it's perfectly safe to keep them up through the entire ride. (Yup, tried it). The only time I actually reach to the side of the cars is to slap hands on Gemini and I only do that in the slow turns :D In fact, I don't even know if it's possible during any other time of the ride.
Remeber my favorite quotes when it comes to "safety first"

Stop accidents before they stop you.

Safety is no accident

Do it right, do it once, and do it safe.
