October 14-16

On Friday, we got to Sandusky in the evening and checked into Sandcastle Suites around 9. I’d never stayed at a CP hotel before, and I loved the fact that we could see Magnum from our screen porch. Using the 4 Friday night tickets that came with the room and my season pass, Dad and the 3 sibs and I headed into the park while Mom stayed back in the room. The first thing we did was Magnum, with about a 20 minute wait. Then we headed over through the Fright Zone to check out MF. The wait was pretty long, so we rode Iron Dragon and Wildcat instead. Then we headed over and rode the red side of PT, and the Matterhorn. We cut through Carnevil to get to WT, and my 8-year old sister put my best friend to shame by having a blast in the haunted areas and not clawing anyone’s arm off out of terror. After we rode WT, we hurried to the back and hopped in line for MF at 11:55. My sister was a little nervous about it, but I rode with her, and she kept her hands up the whole way. What a kid.
Saturday morning we headed into the park right at 11 and went straight to MF. We got on in about half an hour. By then my mom had caught up with us, and she waited with my sister (about a millimeter under 54”) while the rest of us rode Mantis. Then we headed to the back of the park and rode the swings and the Antique Cars with my mom before we did CCMR. Then we took a farewell ride on WWL before taking the worst MS ride I’ve ever had. After MS, we grabbed a snack, and took a round-trip ride on the train to appease my mom. Next, we rode Gemini (the entire queue was full—I’d never seen it so packed), and my brother and I lost the race to the others due to a 10-second head start for the blue train. We got robbed, and it ruined our perfect record, and we were disappointed because we never even got close enough to slap hands. After Gemini, we rode Woodstock Express together just to say that we’ve been on it. My brother and I are currently plotting a way to ride Jr. Gemini without looking like total losers so we can say we’ve been on all 16 coasters there. After that, we walked around Camp Snoopy for a while, and then took the Paddlewheel Excursions (that’s what it’s called, right?). I actually enjoyed that quite a bit, as did my mom, who had only been on 3 rides all day. We took a break then to run back to the hotel to grab coats and sweatshirts, and then took the shuttle up to the front gait. We took a final ride on Demon Drop, and then decided to skip Raptor because the wait was almost 2 hours. Instead, we rode Blue Streak while my mom went to wait in line for the pizza buffet at Macaroni’s. 45 minutes later, we finally got seated. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. When we were waiting in line, some girls came out and were telling everybody that it wasn’t worth the wait, but after waiting in line for 40 minutes, we weren’t about to go back. The only issue I had was the fact that the line was out the door, but there were at least 10 completely empty, clean tables. They just weren’t seating anybody for some reason. The people in front of us asked one of the hosts why the line wasn’t moving, even though there was clearly room to seat at least another 30 people, and the girl just said, “Because…” After dinner, we walked through Carnevil again, and waited about 30 minutes for Maxair while my brother and mom went for a walk. After we caught up with them again, he got sick, so he and my mom headed back to the hotel and left the other 4 of us to finish riding. We skipped Raptor because my sis couldn’t ride it, and she had no one to wait with, and instead rode Cedar Downs, CS, Himalaya, and the green side of PT. I think CS was the only ride in the park without a line. We took a last ride on Magnum, and then ran over to MF where we got in line right at midnight. It took us about an hour to get on, and we were the second-to-last train of the night.
This morning, after much confusion as to when we were leaving, I decided to go grab a few quick rides. I headed in, and rode the first train out on Gemini. That ride just loses something when they’re only running one train. Then I went back and rode Magnum twice with no wait at all, before I had to go.
All in all it was a great trip. I loved taking my two sibs who’d never been before on the rides. The weather was also gorgeous. Jeans and sweatshirts both nights. The full moon was out with wispy clouds in the sky, and it was beautiful. I wouldn’t have minded if the park was a little less crowded—think gridlock on the midway and swarms of people—but we did pretty much everything we wanted to do. We really wanted to do Werewolf Canyon, but the line was so long on both days that we didn’t feel like waiting for it. If I’m lucky, I’ll be back in two weeks though, and maybe we’ll get a chance to do it then.

Wow…am I ever long-winded. Apologies to those who made it this far…

What was the quality of the pizza like? Did it taste good or was it just normal blah Cedar Point pizza? I'm considering lunch there on closing day. ;)

When I stayed at LHP in the summer we ordered pizza from Cedar Point's Pizza Hut and man was it horrible. I would rather have a Delissio pizza made at home in my oven. There was so much cheese on the pizza that it was like the crust on the bottom didn't cook. Maybe it's because I live in Windsor and we have been known to have the best pizza in Canada or maybe it's because I'm not used to American pizza but it was by far the worst pizza I've ever had.

The pizza was decent. It was nothing to happy dance for or anything, but it was better than I thought it would be. I'd say it was better than your average Pizza Hut or Little Ceasar's. They had quite a few varieties out at different times too. I think I saw 9 different topping combinations out in my two trips up to the buffet. They also had pasta and alfredo and marinara sauce. The alfredo was actually very good, i thought. There were also some kind of breadsticks and some soggy looking meatball subs out, but I just stuck to the pizza and pasta.

Cedar Point pizza sucks. As you grow older, taste buds seem to get better and you just don't like the "junk" food anymore.

JMHO...

We thought the pizza at Midway Market a few weeks ago was pretty good.

I'm very picky when it comes to pizza; I'll admit that. We have Fricano's here and I've had no better.

Fricano's is soo good that it is a reason to visit West Michigan!

I'm thinking I haven't had Midway Market yet this year. Last I remember it was the same garbage they tried to feed us in the employee cafe. That pizza sucks horribly.

Maybe they've taken the previous suggestions of better pizza. I'll have to check out the pizza buffet on the 30th.

Fricano's pizza is awesome.

I have a part time job making pizza. Thin crust wood oven baked pizza to be exact. Lots of people love it and I admit that it's decent (if I do say so myself), but I prefer regular crust pizza. I'm considering the Creepy Cooky Castle Cafe for a meal on Saturday if it isn't too busy.

I'd like Fricano's more if they would have some parmesan cheese on the table. Maybe some crushed red pepper too. They say they put it in the pizza already, but I could use more. Also, they don't give free refills, so that knocks it down a peg or two. Everyone gives free refills these days! :)

But yea, it is better than the CP stuff anyday. Especially those hours old pieces I used to eat in the caf after close sometimes.

$10.95 is a lot for a pizza buffet. I can usually put down a bunch, but you can get a whole large pizza for that almost anywhere and that feeds two. I'd honestly suggest leaving the park and going to Chet and Matt's on Strub Road. That's about as good as pizza gets in Sandusky.

Mmmmm....King Kong...

did you tell Robert that it won't all fit on his plate?! :)

Yea, but he tried anyway. We ate about 75% of it between the 4 of us. Wasn't to shabby.
