We have reservations at camper village for Halloween weekend. I was thinking about coming down this weekend too, but decided against it. A good barometer of crowd levels is how full the camper village reservations are. This coming weekend (Oct 22-24) has been booked solid for weeks now. Even the electric only, back in sites. Typically the reservations system shows intermittent yellow (few sites available) as cancellations occur but for this coming weekend it's been solid red for a while now.
I'm predicting big crowd levels again this weekend if the weather holds. On a related note, the following weekend (closing weekend) looks like it will be excellent. Lots of sites available, even full hookup sites are still "green" which means the campground will be nowhere near full.
Closing weekend is looking very good indeed as of right now.
Does anyone else have a good system they use to predict crowd levels using the reservations system or other tools?
Webcams!
My trips are always last minute. Out of the 21 times I've been this year, only 2 have been planned because we brought park virgins with us. (not as cool as it sounds)
So I watch the Webcams on Friday while at work and if the crowds look good when I get out of here at7pm, we go. Saturdays I give it until 1-2pm. By that time you can usually gauge the crowd and leave with plenty of time to ride.
Other than that I got nothing. Someone should live update us on Saturday once an hour from the park,
When I planned my trip earlier this season, I looked through past years in the Trip Reports forum and read what people had to say about crowd levels on similar dates. Driving from Minnesota, I wanted to make sure I got as many rides in as I could. I ended up going midweek in late August and couldn't have been happier. I was at the park two days and the longest line I waited in was 15 minutes for Millennium Force once.
