Just going over this list is starting to make me feel old. I also noticed how alot of attractions that I grew up with from the 80s - early 2000s are no longer at the park. Well here are rides celebrating major milestone anniversaries at the park this year:
Maverick - 15th.
Iron Dragon - 35th
Giant Wheel - 50th!!
Cedar Downs - 55th year at CP.
Sky Ride - 60 years young.
I think last year Cedar Downs turned 100 if you include the time it spent at Euclid Beach, didn't it?
^I'd still celebrate that. But happy 15th to Maverick! Don't some of the new waterslides at CP shores also have anniversaries coming up? Like Point Plummet? That one is awesome.

What is the "split" for Giant Wheel, previous location at Millenium Force turn for home, and present location near Wicked Twister.........errrrrrr, near Tiki Twirl & Troika Troika Troika. Someone must have Ken's book to look it up.
I would have loved to see a time-lapse of that whole move.
Wait is that what the huge pad inside the CPLERR area/outside Millennium turn is for? It never made sense to me why there was so much unused queue space but if it's from the wheel that makes so much mor sense.
Still haven't been able to uncross these circuits...

That is overflow queue from when MF needed it. They would use temp queue rails so that is why there isn't any current rails in there.
There is an area of grass and some cement pads that butt up to the CPLE RR tracks that is the former location of Giant Wheel.

I remember back in the early/mid part of the 2000 season, that overflow queue area was full of people waiting in a 4 hr long line. Then they established a 'come back at time' ticket MF entrance to eliminate the 3-4 hr wait.

The Giant Wheel was located almost center to the Train Station, so more where the overbank turn on MF is. You can see in this picture that the whole area was removed down to dirt after they moved the Giant Wheel. Nothing that had anything to do with Giant Wheel was kept.
According to Ken's book (pg. 64) the Giant Wheel ran near the train station and entrance to the Frontier Trail from 1972 until it was moved at the end of the 1999 season.

What does it smell like? That looks like a flower booth on the right?
I wasn't at the point at that time.

The building behind the flowers is the 'Old Fashioned Chicken BBQ'.
