Not a fan

I've been to CP 5 times over the last couple of years. Each time I go, TTD is down or only running a few times a day. I'm not about to stand there and wonder if the thing will work. Looks like fun though. Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to get on it. For now, Magnum is still my favorite.
I agree with CPCyclone and Jeff. In my eyes, this ride is a perversion of the 400ft barrier, height, and speed records. MF got those titles (replace 400 ft w/ 300) the right way and I love it so much more for it. I could've just waited another 10 years instead of this...
I understand the people who are not so thrilled by T(Thrill) D. For me this ride is all about the speed and the height. It's considered a coaster although to me its more like a thrill ride. Saying that I believe TTD is an awesome ride. Also not the best in the park though. I've also been on Storm runner at hersheypark(this ride is not as fast, smaller hill, but has other elements - it is an excellent ride). TTD in my opinion is still better!!!!!!!

I'd still rather ride the big red and silver thing across the midway. Shorter waits, longer ride, better view, and well..... It's just worth the wait more.
How many of you have ridden Hypersonic at Kings Dominion? I've now ridden both it and TTD and I'd say TTD was more "fun" and Hypersonic was by far more powerful (it doesn't go as fast, but it launches with what feels one heck of a lot harder for the 1.8 seconds it has, or at least it did when I rode it in 2001). Hypersonic almost knocked the breath out of me. TTD felt more like Wicked Twister's launch x3 or something (very smooth, almost induction motor like by comparison). Of course Hypersonic also feels like it's trying to catapault you right out of the train when it goes over the tower whereas I only found MF's horseshoe tower to feel disorientating. I think it would have been better (more thrilling) without the twists in it so you could see what is going on better. It's hard to be scared of a 400+ foot drop when you can't see it until you're almot halfway down.

But overall, I was impressed after getting off Hypersonic, but not particularly wanting another ride right away (from sheer intensity of the launch and hurling over that tower) whereas I could have easily taken another 10 rides on TTD with no problem. But then I had fun riding Wicked Twister even, so TTD was definitely a good kick (oddly enough I enjoyed Wicked Twister more than MF this year which I find very odd; even Blue Streak gave me more of a "thrill" feeling on its hills than MF, which just seemed to stick to the track; maybe I should have waited until later in the day when the wheel bearings warmed up).

Still, the best coaster ride I ever got was on MF the 2nd to last night of the park season like three years ago. We were in line after the park closed (finishing off the line) so it was like 1:10 AM when we go on and riding through the park after the lights were off in most of it was just AWESOME. The ride couldn't have been more warmed up so it was flying over those hills and you got air on every single one of them (and this was before they were stapling everyone to death so I got a little bit of space; this past time I was so stapled in, I wouldn't have felt any air even if I had gotten any).

As it is now, I got more exciting rides on Magnum, Gemini and Blue Streak (where you can still get some air-time). Actually, Magnum was running in the sprinkling rain with the breaks off so it was FLYING (Gemini was closed until that evening this past Sunday when it finally stopped drizzling). Blue Streak was a walk-on by 9PM and was flying along. I also found I hated Mantis in the back (odd since I loved Batman's Knight Flight last year in the back). I actually felt a little motion sick on Mantis which is unusual for me on coasters (save ones that go backwards a lot). I guess I better stick to the front on that one.

Hypersonic is a piece of crap. Intense launch, painful air over the top (thanks in part to the horrible restraints) and it doesn't even go that high.

I prefer MF over TTD, and will not wait over an hour for either.

The one thing TTD has over MF is my coaster buddy fits in TTD, and not in MF.

The "headache" that I refer to (which may be what everyone else equates to) is a figure of speech. It's such a "headache" to deal with since it's opening. "Will TTD run today?" "Will it be down for the next week?" "Oh look, they just sent up a test train, let's run over there with the everyone else in the park, oh... it's down again." While I anxiously wait in the que I feel like I'm gambling with my time, will I get on? Or have I just wasted another hour of my time when I could have been riding something else that would give me just as good of a "thrill." I'm not bashing the ride experience... there is nothing that can compare to it's height, or drop.. but is it worth the aching "headache" that comes along with trying to experience that?

*Sorry, I was having problems with posting, and I did this before I read the above post* I think it's a wonderful thing to look at. And another question: Doesn't intensity and thrills=good experience? If TTD's the most intense and thrilling ride you've ever been on, how can it not be the best? I mean, what's the point of coasters, to have a gentle ride? I'm getting tired of people putting up this false front. "Oh, it's not that tall...doesn't do much for me..." come on! Idc how tall you think coasters will go in the future, but you have to face the fact: it's 2004, and TTD is the tallest coaster we've got (and imo, the best). 120 mph is just intense, period. Please, just break down and admit it, the ride is amazing, at least to a degree. I mean it made the "Best of What's New" list for Technology in Pop Science magazine last year. It's pretty impressive for a roller coaster to make that, they've been around since the 1800's and they're still amazing us. *** Edited 7/29/2004 10:47:50 PM UTC by Erikjc***
Um, read the post above yours, Erikjc. It explains what is meant by a headache. No one is talking about roughnress. They are merely talking about the downtime problems. You practically re-posted the same thing an hour ago.

The ride is short, i agree, BUT ITS AWESOME. The speed is amazing! I rode it at night, after waiting 2.5 hours. (Sign in front estimated 4 hours) and I think it was worth it. Keep in mind it was the 3rd week it was open. Real dragster races last 4.5 seconds, compare that to 15.

Top Fuel Funny Cars take off at 310 MPH in those 4.5 seconds. TTD only does 120 for 21 seconds. I think their the same...

Wow. The one and only comment on Hypersonic (I guess no one else has ridden it?) is it's a piece of crap. Is that a technical term? :)

It sure got rave reviews when it first came out as a prototype. People couldn't get over that launch (which I think is far more important than the height of the tower). Now it's been reduced to a "piece of crap" despite its launch blowing away TTD's launch in sheer acceleration (TTD would have to do almost 178mph in 4 seconds to equal the force of Hypersonic's 80mph launch in 1.8 seconds). Or is this a CP fan ONLY kind of board?

It's an opinion, PacDude. Sorry you didn't like it.

Personally, I have not had the opportunity to ride Hypersonic, so I can't give an opinion.

There are a lot of coasters I like that a lot people hate (Mean Streak, Raging Wolf Bob's), and coasters I absolutely refuse to ride again (Son of Beast) that others love. I don't take comments against or for coasters as personally as you have seem to have taken Jeff's comment.

BTW, this IS Pointbuzz "The Ultimate Guide to Cedar Point"...so yeah, a good portion of the threads here are CP related. You might get a better answer to how people feel about Hypersonic if you were to visit www.coasterbuzz.com

I love Mean Streak, even though it pains me to see it run so slowly nowadays. :) I could use another good woodie in 2005 or 2006 but I doubt it. :(

I rode Hypersonic the summer that it opened, long before Dragster was a twinkle in Dick's eye. It has nothing to do with being a fan of anything (and if you were playing along at home, you would've read that my fondness for Dragster has waned).

Here's my trip report from that trip.

I wish I had experienced Hypersonic before TDD but that wasn't the case. We were at PKD on Easter weekend this year and I was so geeked to get on it. To make a long story short it was a rickety feeling painful ride and Volcano TBC saved the day. I don't even remember any airtime going over the tophat, just a second or two of intense pain, then a pause and some more pain then the brakes. Our onride photo looks likes we were in the process of passing kidney stones! The funny thing was how I kept reading over on Coasterbuzz about how the rubber tires made it such a smooth ride. Ha!
In keeping with the topic, I am a Dragster fan. It doesn't have the beauty style or grace of Millennium Force in my opinion, but nothing else does either. ;)
