No microwaves?

Hey all. I just got my contract and stuff from the Point, but I noticed that on the Welcome News it states that "Food warming devices of any kind are prohibited in dormitory style rooms."

I can understand the fire hazards, especially in the older dorms, but does this mean you can't legally have a microwave in your room? I don't see that as a real threat. Any info is greatly appreciated...thanks!

Nope, sorry you aren't allowed to have microwaves in the dorm rooms. :( They DO have microwaves in the lobby of the Commons buildings. If having appliances like that is very important to you, then you could try to get into an apartment instead of a dorm, like let you have microwaves and all that stuff :)

Funny...I like 'em better that way.

What is most anticipated event of 2003? the debut of Dragster, the release of Metallica's new album, the release of Terminator 3, or the release of Matrix:Reloaded...tough call.

From what I understand.. it works like this.. Only Bayside and Commons apartments are allowed to have nukers.

So no appliances other than basically a fridge is "allowed" in Commons Dorms, Cedars or Gold.

Man that is sad. I plan on living in Commons Dorms so I can lock up my laptop. . .but having a microwave in my room would be nice. (The stove in the apartments is nice, but I am not willing to live with that many guys just so I can cook.) :) But yeah, a microwave in the dorms would be nice.

Well "legally" your not supposed to have microwaves, but i KNOW the people that were in the room next to me had one in their room and housing was in there many times, and nothing was said sooo...

Good advice Christie. And remember that beds make great hiding places for such devices as toasters and microwaves (when not in use of course).

Burning Spam? That is too nasty. I bet that thing was a crustified chunk of creosote when it was finally removed, not to mention the smell -- ugh.
I need to cook (mmm, Chinese stir fry!), so it's the apartments for me! Not sure whether it will be Bayside or Commons this summer, though; I've tried both and both have their ups and downs, so I will be satisfied with a spot in either, as long as I can room with my sister.

Not as if you can't sneak something in, covert-like...
The downside of that is... if for some reason.. you are found out.. it IS grounds for dismissal as you DO sign a housing agreement.

Alot of people do it.. but don't take chances kids.. You don't want to ruin what could be the best summer in your life over something like this...

Some of the older dorms were built way before the dream of a microwave even existed. The power in the rooms was meant to burn a lightbulb, not your dinner.

Knowing what I know, I wouldn't chance it.

Oh, yeah. I never got a chance to tell ya, you ran to to the store and all...well, guess what? ;)

What if its not plugged in? You know I'll bring one in hopes of getting a room that will accomodate it, but what am I supposed to do if I don't? If they see it I'll just explain I had no place to put it....yeah ;)

Oooh ST Kara, that is smart thinking! If it is unplugged and in 'storage,' it seems the worst you could get is a warning. Not that I condone such horrendous acts. But way to go on the thinking skills!
