No longer # 1?

i've been there twice, and the first time the wait was four hours (probably more because of so many breakdowns) and the other time it was broken down. i didn't care. sure i'm frustrated that i haven't ridden the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster, but i have gone there before this year and i had a kickass time then too. i still love looking at that modern marvel and watching it take off and seeing the skin being pulled back on people's faces and seeing the various speeds that they get. even if it is not open it is a great structure and it still lures people away from other rides. and there's one 80's song that you should pay attention to. dont worry, be happy.

It's too bad that Dragster was down, but other people are having much worse trouble than you at other parks, here is one.

sounds like somebody's got a case of the the mondays...

How many different ways are the same subjects going to be rehashed? If the park was #1 for the last several years what has happened this year that would make it less than #1? Downtime on the new attraction? Is that your entire rationalization?

I don't know what park has been #2 all these years but what has that park done that would vault it up to #1?

Maybe CP should save you all a bunch of heartache and refrain from building new technology rides. Would that make you all happy you bunch of....(I can't think of a nice word)?

------------------
No matter where you go, there you are.

universal's islands of adventure is #2 and it's not even close to beating cp and i'm pretty sure ioa hasn't made anything new so cp is definently in safe hands, even though i'm not worried about it slipping to #2. the 2003 golden ticket awards are at the end of august so we wont have long to wait to see if ttd made an impact on the awards. hopefully it did (if it was open when most of the people went then definently). i think cp is still the most amazing place i've been to (#2 being deal's gap) and cp will definently be on top for a long time to come. but i think that six flags magic mountain will slowly start to creep up the rankings since it is now tied with cp in # of coasters.

I'm not so sure that CP has had more breakdowns this year then in other years. I've been to the park 8 times, and excluding Dragster, the only ride I've see go down for an extended period of time (more then 30 minutes) was Raptor (when two train ended up on the lift hill).

I'll agree with Jeff: Machines break down.

Just some rides at certain parks do it more often than others (Six Flags).

In terms of reliability and quality, Six Flags is the Chevy of theme parks (Sorry Chevy fans, I couldn't resist).

johnz,

How do you figure that CP and SFWoA are tied for # of coasters?

No matter where you go, there you are.

Quite your whining guy

At least at Cedar Point, you have like 10 other coasters you can go on if some of them break down.

My home park of Worlds of Fun has a grand total of four coasters and if one of them breaks down, that leaves you with three or even two if they are having a really bad day

Unless you have been living under a rock, you knew that TTD has had its share of problems this year and you should have realized that TTD may not be open

Can't you buy a season pass for like 90 dollars before the park opens for the year. Buy a season pass and you will never have to complain about paying admission price and then seeing that the ride is closed

This was my year to do my every other year CP trip but I put it off a year when I saw that TTD was having problems.

I am always amazed at the people that live close to Cedar Point have this woe is me attitude when some rides break down. You live close to one of the best parks in the world and you come onto the internet and complain when a few of their rides break down but still have quite a few good rides to choose from.

I would be happy if WOF had just one of Cedar Point's signature rides let alone all of them.

i meant magic mountain, sorry, there are too many six flags with similar names!!!

I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain earlier this month on my trip to California and let me assure you, MM is not even close to CP. Sure MM has the same # of coasters as CP, but its HIGHLY unlikely that any more than 10 of them are open (all day or at all). When I went X, Deja Vu, Batman: The Ride, and Superman: The Escape were closed ALL DAY. There is also more to a park than just the rides. I believe CP isn't going anywhere on the list!
me neither, but i think magic mountain will probably move up the list (still under cp). and i think ttd will probably be one of the top 25 steel coasters because in an article i read the editor of amusement today said very very good things about ttd, including how it's one of the top coasters.

Machines are built by humans. Humans arn't perfect, therefore, their work won't be either. Either way you see it, it does suck no matter how far your travel to ride TTD and it doesn't work. I do think Cedar Point could hire a couple more mechanics to have around the park at all times. Cedar Point is the theme park with the most Roller Coasters, somthing is bound to go wrong. I'm going the second week of August, it sure as heck better work. :(

One last thing I noticed was that all the DJs play 80s music. CP is a thrill park with the majority of there guests being in the younger generations.

Uhhhh, wrong. The majority of the park's most desirable guests are families with the parents somewhere in my age bracket (30s or so). You know, the ones that won't flip out over one or two coasters being down because they'll spend some mandatory time in Camp Snoopy, riding the full spectrum of rides, catching a live show and dropping a lot more cash overall. So they want to keep the real cash cows humming.

It does suck that I have to explain the 80s to my kids, tho. "Daddy, what's that crap?" For crying out loud, drop a little more Prince or Depeche Mode in the mix. If I'm gonna defend my poor taste in music, at least make it worth justifying...

Amen to that about the music.
Hey all- I just joined the site! I've been a recent viewer of this board back since the discussion of Area 51.

ANYWAY- I just got back from my visit to Cedar Point. While being a Season Pass holder I've been to Cedar Point three times this year, and live in Medina (about an hour and a half away) My family hadn't been to Cedar Point in five years (because of busy lives etc.). I finally presuaded them and my grandparents to get a room in Sandcastle Suites, and enjoy all that Cedar Point has to offer.

We arrived to Sandcastle Suites on Sunday, the 27th (the day the first post person was talking about.) We had a pleasant time walking the boardwalk (the path along the beach)! The weather wasn't too kind to us in the evening so we decided to head over to Breakers for a bite to eat. The pizza was absolutely wonderful, and the restaurant was very, very clean. Once outside the restaurant we were greeted by Snoopy in his pajamas. (while no one in our party had any young kids, it was still very enjoyable to be greeted by Snoopy- who doesn't like Snoopy?)

At around 7:00 the skies cleared up and we headed into the park. Dragster was un-opperational... (as we all know) However wait times for other rides were very, very short. The longest wait was Millennium Force (35 minutes). We ended the night with Snoopy's Summer Spectacular *Which was highly enjoyable* On our way out Dragster seemed to have cleared everyone out, BUT there were tons of mechanics working on the ride getting it ready for tomorrow's guests.

The next morning (today) we got up early and headed to the park for the early entrance times. Dragster was testing and not many trains were making it over the top. We waited outside the entrance with about 100 other people. At 9:20 the line opened up and we got on the third train of the day. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! We had such a great time on that ride. Afterwards we got back in line again and waited 45 minutes, and of course after that the line was well over two hours. *but BOY were we lucky to get on when we did*

I'll make my post short. The main reason why I am even posting is this:

My grandparents travel everywhere. They go to Florida every year, and it had been a while since they've been to Cedar Point. They said themselves that they really enjoyed Cedar Point BETTER than they enjoyed Disney World (while this may be a stretch.... listen to me) Nowhere can you find a place that caters to everyone in the family. Teenagers and young adults enjoy the awesome roller coasters, younger kids enjoy Camp Snoopy. Seniors (like my grandparents) enjoy frontier trail, CP & LE Railroad, and even rides like Disaster Transport.

The thing that my grandmother enjoyed the most was the cleanliness of the park. She noticed the small things like the constant midway sweeps, the bellboys at the hotel, (which were washing the windows) etc. She also enjoyed the beach front hotels which offered the tranquility of a florida resort, with the thrill of a world-class amusement park in the "background". She loved the Live Entertainment including "Snoopy Rocks! On Ice." (absolutely fabulous show btw)

My Grandfather enjoyed "Patio Relations" which greeted us everytime we sat down to eat a meal. They made sure our day was going great and provided helpful hints to make it better. He also enjoyed sitting in the Grandstands watching Top Thrill Dragster *he loves cars and the theme of the ride along with the sound effects made his day*

Cedar Point is a "Classy Operation" as my grandmother said. And although what I'm saying is the obvious, and what everyone knows, it's also important to keep in mind what the common "Joes" think. Cedar Point doesn't even come close to any other amusement park in the world. It's standards far surpass what any park could ever become. As for any other park being #1 over Cedar Point.... they have a long way to go before they could truly create the kind of magic that is experienced at Cedar Point!

And as far as TTDragster is concerned (this is my opinion which is the same as many others) Cedar Point (in a sense) broke it's own record for the tallest, fastest rollercoaster. They could've easily kept the bragging rights for "The tallest, fastest rollercoaster in America!" *how many "Joes" do you know that even know about Steel Dragon?* Cedar Point built this ride to please you, and the way they handle Dragster's infamous breakdowns is truly professional. NO OTHER PARK would handle the situation like Cedar Point did! (ok, that's all I have to say...)

"I will make my post short."

That is almost, if not, a trip report. ;)

No one should be mad at Dragster. We were there three days and TTD was done 1/2 of the first day, all second day, and open 1/4 of the morning. We rode it twice(Day 1 and Day 3) both time we probley got stuck on it for about 15 to 30 min. Day 1 restants stuck closed in exit platform. Day 3 Compleate shut down, we were in the launch posision and locked on redey to go when it shut down. they had to come release our restraints manualy, take us down the catwalk into the station back into the queue line(first of coarse) and rode the ride. After that we didn't ride it any more because of the breakdowns and the line all the way to Iron Dragons entrance. Hate to brag but we had lots of fun.

P.S. play lincon park for music.

"What are you, a dentist? Or a hippie? Or some kind of hippie dentist?" - Strongbad

First off as someone who's never been to either Cedar Point (will soon though!) or Six Flags Magic Mountain, Cedar Point seems a much much more desirable place to go, mainly because of their variety in rides and the overall atmosphere that CP has to offer.

I don't think that anyone should gripe about the downtime that Top Thrill Dragster is having because Cedar Point is doing everything in it's humanly power to keep that ride running in tip top performance, and i mean, how dare they try something new and not quite proven yet. I guess you'd rather have a Vekoma Boomerang instead, seeming how we all know that those work?

And a park that i think is very much underappreciated by the Amusement Park world is Paramount Canada's Wonderland. I've been there numerous times (season pass holder for the past 4 years) and the only time that i can ever remember a roller coaster having any down time would be our suspended coaster Vortex for a half hour one time that i was there. With 11 roller coasters and a wide variety of other flat rides (close to or if not more than Cedar Point) PCW deserves to move up in the rankings of parks or at least get a little more recognition than they recieve.
