yeah... i have a fairly new industrial. [i got it in feb] i'm not and really cant take it out for one ride. Thats just an annoyance. but i have long enough hair they won't see it. Think thats a bad idea?

I can see how earrings would be a bad idea on Maverick. I was there today and took a couple good hits in the neck on there. If it was in the ear with earrings on it would defenatly hurt. I always make it a habit to take my earrings out in the morning before I go to the park. It's just common sense to not have them in when you know you are going to be bouncing around in a sholder harness.

There are a TON of people that leave common sense at home when visiting theme parks - or they just never had it in the first place. :)
Glad to hear some people still use it.
We were there on Memorial Day Morning, and my girlfriend had 15 ear piercings, including an industrial and a tragus. She had no problems riding (an issue because some do not come out without special tools). She was worried about it enough to put her hair down, but we were watching many other people, and none seemed to have any problems. We decided the key for us (she's 5,8') was to hang on to the actual O.T.S.R. so that our hands padded our ears in a way. This is something that the other coaster's make impossible. It is kind of a headbanger. Knowing this, combined with the restraints make it not an issue for us.
Maverick is certainly an intense ride, but I wouldn't go so far as to ban earrings. I certainly wouldn't compare it to, say, pre-Revenge Phantom -- the ride that permanently soured my wife on coasters. I wouldn't even say it's any worse than Raptor, let alone Mantis or Thunderhawk.

Maybe it's the shape of the restraints that led them to post the signs? They certainly appear to be less forgiving than say Mantis or Raptor.
The only ride that I have ever hit my ear enough to cause bleeding from my piercings was Head Spin at Geauga Lake last summer, and I think they removed that. After riding Maverick I still think Mantis is worse with head banging and earings, although I would think it has to do with your specific height and how the OTSR fits.
A tragus piercing is probably the most well protected thing you can have in your ear, provided it's a closed ring. Industrials kinda suck because they don't seem to ever heal except for a lucky few people. I bashed mine on the Hulk once and was not pleased.

Arrgh, just like the Steel Phantom. I don't think anything is worse than that, and most of us can relate really well.

Indy's back and just in time.
That would be why it's no longer Steel Phantom.

I have an industrial, tragus, 2 cartlidge piercings, and my lip. I didn't have to take out my lip, just the other ones. However, when I was there Monday I didn't hear them say anything about any piercings or earings.

Indeed, despite missing the headaches and going upside down several times in a few seconds...
It's better now...although I sneak to the Science Center once in a while.

I did notice that the ride hosts were checking for earrings on Monday. I saw a few people that they asked to remove theirs before riding...
I don't have any piercings so I didn't have to worry. But I did get the aforementioned shoulder bruising. It was totally worth it though!

I rode maverick and was not asked to take out my rook or my one set of lobes. The girl in front of me was covered with ear piercings (probibly 20 in each ear) and took her hair down and hid her ears. I guess it would be good to throw the earing warning out there after all as some piercings are easily torn depending on where and other factors but i had my neck so far foreward i looked like a bobble head till I realised maybe I should "sit against the seat back". (I never put two and two together until the very end)

What about other piercings. I have my lip and eyebrow both pierced with rings through them. Is this policy the same with other piercings.
Unless you plan on banging your face off of the restraint, I think you're OK. :)

Beware slight nipple torture in certain circumstances. That's all I'm gonna say.

What would happen if you were wearing a captive ring and need ring opening/closing pliers to take the jewelry out and put it back in? I would have to assume most people don't take these tools with them to Cedar Point.
Would they let you ride, or kick you off? Is that on the sign outside of the enterence? The first place I noticed the policy was in the WWL station, and by that time people would have been waiting awhile already.
