There are so many amazing possibilities over there. I love the boardwalk idea because they have so many features already in place - mainly the beach and lake. But, with Giant Wheel and Wicked Twister already in place, they have a great start to a skyline. I really LOVE to see Disaster Transport removed and a plug-n-play Intamin woodie added. But, not just that. I think revamping the whole area - with paving that looks like a boardwalk, lots of little food stands, and tons of kids/flat rides. But, I think they should do kid rides that anyone can ride. I had a TON of fun riding the things at "A Bug's Land" at California Adventure. It was a blast.
They don't have to be lame to be kids rides. Fun, fun, fun would be what I would try to do over there. Even the Intamin woodie wouldn't have to be an El Toro level ride. It could just be fast and FUN.
I agree with the boardwalk idea. Although I will miss looking down onto the pool while on the back Twister spike.
Thrills Around the Corner!
The boardwalk idea could definitely work. I could see them moving ocean motion and moving it to a location with some more foot traffic. If the stadium goes that would clear some room for a small twisting wood coaster with the resorts beach entrance nestled nicely in there.
I don't see DT going unless they replace it with a similarly sized "junior" coaster. That would definitely open the area and enhance the games area. I definitely agree with the addition of fun rides over there. Alot of potential but we'll just have to wait and see. I'm sure the discussion will heat up near October.
Well, woodies cost a considerable amount less than steel coasters. So, if they had the same total amount for an expenditure, they could do a lot. There's nothing to say they couldn't put in a small fun woodie and a fun-type family coaster. Maybe even a Mack spinner like they're putting in at Knott's.
I think Ocean Motion would fit perfectly on a boardwalk though. If it needs moved, so be it. But, there are endless possibilities in that area of the park. It would be a wicked fun area to do some brainstorming on.
I have been "brainstorming" about this area for months now! I have a full design abstract and am working on some rough groundplans. I did, oddly enough I had already planned for a woody and a spinner. It's been a very fun project - too bad I haven't been on CF's payroll for it!
Dead Men Tell No Tales
Thanks to a couple that my mom and I met while watching the OSU Spring Athletic Band perform, I now have a contact inside P&D, as well as in Sandusky when I start working there. Maybe I could help you out. ;)
In all seriousness though, if they are just going to let it deteriorate without doing more than required mechanical inspections and repairs, just take it down already and spare us all the eye sore that the warehouse is now. With that and the stadium gone, that would clear a good amount of real estate for some new things, especially since the beach right there is only used to park boats and jet skis. *** Edited 5/22/2007 3:00:14 AM UTC by BlueStreak64***

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Steel coasters are more then wood coasters. I have yet to see a wooden coaster go over the cost of Dragster which is 25 million. The most a coaster costs to build right now.
So you agree with halltd?

The area where the dive show was is too small for a coaster. Even on the boardwalk its still too small. They would have to take out the CarnEvil area too. I think they should either put a food place there or they should get a bigger swinging ship that goes upside down like the one at the fairs. Or just put another spin and spew at the spot lol.
Between the Stadium and the land that Ocean Motion occupies, there's plenty of room for something like this.

Wow all this after asking if the Dive Show is Gone this season. Thanks for the input

Someone mentioned something about removing Ocean Motion since it only has five people on it at a time..perhaps that would not be the case if it could lend itself to be found more easily, i.e moving the ride.
Although I have a feeling this all will end up in a Project '08 or '09 forum down the road.

Tim - SoB was 20 million. (Although it most certainly is an anomaly). So not ALL wooden coasters cost considerably less than steel.
Goodbye MrScott

LOL!! I said small, FUN coaster. Not an engineering nightmare. LOL!!
Even Mean Streak was only 7.5 million.
Does that include this year's renovations? Probably the most expensive wooden coaster evAr if you take that into account.
Unfortunately the cost doesn't equal the quality.

Ride on, MrScott!
Well, I'll find out in July.
And Tim, for someone who hates chains, why would you want an Intamin cookie cutter? That seems counter to your nature.

The Intamin plug-n-play woodies are cookie cutter? Since when? I didn't think El Toro looked anything like Colossos or Balder. Maybe a TAD like Colossos, but not a clone by any means.
Pre-fabricated track doesn't equal cookie cutter in my mind. Plus, there's only one Intamin woodie in the US. That's far from being a cookie cutter. I bet Intamin could come up with a small, tight woodie for that space that would be wicked fun!!
