Next Coaster

Its becoming hard to wait any longer to ride the Millennium Force. I wish I could speed up time so I could ride this thing tomorrow. But, what do you think CP's next coaster should be? I would love to see a 200+ feet inverted floorless. It would be sweet if it broke an inversion record.. maybe 9 or 10. Thats my 2 cents.

In the July 23, 1999 edition of the Lorain Morning Journal, in the Millennium Force article Janice Lifke said, that "we are already planning and working with Intamin for a coaster that has the most inversions, and turns." So there you have it. But I would give it until the year 2002 to actually see if this is true.

Kakarot,
I love your little quote at the bottom. Your right. Who needs drugs when you have Cedar Point

stop!
Hmmmmm..... an inverted floorless coaster CP really needs one of those, oh wait they already have one it's called Raptor.
True smart alek, but they dont have a record holding floorless inverted coaster like I explained in my post. CP also has many non-inverted steel coaster, but I bet you still want to ride Millennium Force.

Kakarot why would a park put in two of the same coasters. A park needs a veriity of roller coasters. Cedar Point has an inverted coaster already, what they need is a flying coaster, or a record braeking woodie like PKI's Son of Beast.

I'm not saying they should put two of the same coaster in. Why would this new inverted coaster I speak of have to be anything like Raptor? Raptors not over 200ft tall, Raptor doesn't have 10 inversions. I'm just saying I wan't the height and speed of Magnum with the loops and elements of Raptor.

IN this age of hyper and giga coaster, a giga (or below) inversion coaster would be a nice change of pace

Personaly, I wouldnt mind seeing a Floorless coaster. I want to ride one of those. A record breaking woodie would be sweet. I dont get it, some people say Mean Streak is SO ROUGH, so they dont want another woodie. I realy dont think its that rough, but thats just me. I also wouldnt mind a vertical coaster, so they would have the only one in North America. A flying coaster would be realy cool to. Im confident though that they will pick something good.

Okay now let think about this. Another inverted roller coaster at Cedar Point. Thats not really smart. First they would be spending money on a roller coaster they already have. What will please you people. Raptor on an offical count I believe is number 3 in the country. Cedar Point already has a good inverted roller coaster. Now Look at Alpinguist it is just a larger version of Raptor and its not number 2 or 1 therefore bigger is not always better. Second, I very much doubt if an inversion record will be broken using an inverted roller coaster. Chances are it will be with a Steel Twister. What you want is not going to happen anytime soon. 10+ inversions on an inverted roller coaster. Going 70+ mph with my leg dangling going into a upside down twist (I forget what you call it) is not something many prople want to experince so try again. Like I said it won't happen and most def no at Cedar Point.

You know, I'm already prepared for Batman at SFO to be the biggest disappointment ever because of the hype surrounding floorless coasters, mostly by people who've never been on the only currently operating floorless coaster, Medusa.

ShiveringTim... care to comment on floorless coasters?

Having ridden Medusa last spring, I can say that it is not a bad ride by any measure but the true "floorless" feeling is only in the front seat. The rest of the ride is classic B+M long, flowing and smooth. Overall, I like Hulk, a regular B+M sitdown much better becuase it's layout and pacing are better. In conclusion being floorless is no big deal and it's the layout that makes the ride. Since were talking about BKF if you take a look at the layout I think that this ride has some potential to be fairly good.
The last message brings me to a point of how CP has virtually every type of coaster out there (how many parks have an indoor themed coaster? only 3 or 4 come to my mind. Plus how many parks have 4 structures over 200 ft. tall?)except a floorless (skip that idea for now) and a sit-down looper. From what I've heard, Hulk and Kumba are two excellent B&M sit-downs

Yes, the floorless is a gimmick, but it is still a fine ride. The front seat is the seat of choice. Personally, I like to sit in the middle when riding the front. The visual up there is amazing. Sensationally, there really isn't a difference from an inverted. I'll be on BKF (and hopefully Medusa West) this summer. Much like other B&Ms, I think layout is everything. Medusa is basically a collection of B&M's greatest hits: loop, dive loop, heartline, cobra roll, corkscrews. It'll be interesting to see what the new batch will be like.

A B&M sit-down would be great, but not floorless, because that would make CP a sort of copycat, and wouldn't want that. Anyway, back to sit-downs: I went to Florida last spring break, and Kumba was the best looper I have ever been on! My favorite part is the zero g roll, the first of its kind (correct me if I'm wrong). Talk about intensity! Maybe something like, say, somewhere in the 220-230 feet tall range, with a record breaking 9-10 inversions, that could realistically be done at CP in 2002, perhaps 2004, if you want to look far down the road. Made my B&M, that would be one heck of a ride!

I dunno, if I had to make a list of things I'd like to see next as CP it would go something like this:

1. [G/C]CI woodie
2. Flying [project stealth] coaster
3. Thrust Air
4. Floorless
5. B&M LIM launch [8+ inverter, just to nail the record?]

What I expect:
1. [G/C]CI woodie
2. Mouse of some sort
3. Floorless
4. Thrust Air
5. B&M LIM
This is how I see the future
2000 A 310 ft tall rollercoaster by a Swiss desinger
2001 flat ride
2002 ???????
2003 rollercoaster

Now don't all of you get on me saying parks don't follow any pattern. This is just a guess.
As one who has ridden Medusa at Great Adventure, I must disagree that it is just a gimmick. It's a totally different sensation, not to mention really cool to look down and see your feet dangling over the track. I'm not getting into front seat vs. back seat, because that's all preference. It is also the first one, so now they will mess around with the design and throw in a few more things. Also, just to nitpick, Kumba does NOT hit 200 feet, although it does come pretty close at around 170. On May 5 at Sea World in Florida, the second floorless has it's soft opening. Called Kraken, it supposidely has different elements than Medusa, plus it's taller by some 20 feet. When returning from Florida, I'll drop a note comparing the two. But on the original subject, CP desperately needs an LIM!!! REAL BAD!!!
