Strange that the same community (meaning here) thought it a desperate action to give the gate away two years ago...
I wouldn't bet this is anything other than an attempt to get people out and see the park again, just like what some of us (myself included) have been saying that the park needs to do.
I've never had a problem with giving the gate away if there was a reason or plan to it. In this case, to me, it seems like a good idea to take a bunch of your most loyal clients and let them in to see another of your products to see how good it is. It would be interesting to see how many of the folks who take advantage of this offer adds GLP to their CP pass next year.
On another point:
Is it me or is the complaining that, "i already have the double pass, what do i get?" sounds lame and whiny?
"It's not fair that they get something and i don't"

Due to the proximity of the parks, you must add-on the season pass ability for the "other" park. Those are the only two parks in the chain like that and only because their main draw is basically the same area for both parks.
Be nice if they somehow had an option that you could pick the two parks, even if it cost a little more.
I'm exactly equal distance between CP and Canda's Wonderland. Although it isn't much of a park compared to CP, with a dual season pass I would be tempted to go there maybe once a year in addition to my regular CP visits.
^ I'm not sure what you're trying to say Headrush. Can you explain it a little better ?

I wonder how far you are from these two parks. I know it's an issue with CP and GLP because many of the people in the region could be fortyfive minutes from both parks. Which is definately a unique situation (outside Orlando)
Headrush, I think i've figured out what you're trying to say. I think you're jumping the gun a little bit because we don't know yet how CF is going to handle season passes for next year.
You may be able to purchase a CP season pass next year and it be good at any other CF park except for GL. In that case CW would be included. Noone's exactly sure how it will work next year.
Me, for instance, I purchased a GL season pass with a CP add-on. Do I get to bring a guest for free too? If CP season pass holders with a GL add-on will be able to then I can't see a reason why they would penalize me just because my main pass is from GL. I guess we're still waiting on official word on that.

I spoke with a rep at GL on the phone and she said both CP passholders with GL add-ons and GL passholders with CP add ons can bring a friend for free both days.
Edit: I also found out from them that GL passholders can bring a friend for free to GL on Sept. 2, 3 or 4th as well as the 9th and I believe he said the 14th.

^ I spoke with someone at GL and they contradicted what Loopy said.
They told me that 8/26 &8/27 only passes processed at Cedar Point will get a friend in free, and for Sept 2, 3 and 4, only passed processed at Geauga Lake will work. She said that it did not matter if you had an add-on for the other park.
This is a problem for me because one of my family's pass was processed at CP, while the other three were at GL. Although all of them were bought at CP, the lady I talked to said it doesn't matter, we would only get one friend in this weekend and three people in on the other weekends.
Hrmm, I guess I should have got the person's name that I spoke with.
It's kinda dumb if you ask me since you could process you pass at either park if you have either add on.

I also failed to get the persons name. With all the confusion, I think I will show up and try to fight it at the gate.

Great Idea. I have a feeling that Cedar Fair was only going to have two types of passes next year anyway. 1 for amusement and 1 for that and waterparks.
I was thinking this was more of a way to promote the park. I think thier idea was to get people who have never been their to come back after they visit it once.. but I like your theory too.
So the weekend is quickly approaching us, is anyone planning on making the trip over to Cleveland?
I am going with one of my friends who has a pass and we are taking two non-season pass holders. Living in Toledo, we fugire that since our two guests are getting in for free, they can pay for the gas. Hopefully it will be a fun weekend, since I've never been there and all.

GL is definitely loads of fun for first-timers. You'll have to tell us about the crowds, so we can gauge the success of their marketing program.
