New "valuable" lost article policy?

And I've been in line when things like this have happened. It's ridiculous to shut down a ride to get an item that will probably be no longer functional after falling from the ride.

How do car keys end up in a place where they can be lost?

In my case, it was innocent enough, but I still did not expect them to stop the ride to look for them (and they didn't). It was on the Hydra -a floorless that features a very slow heartline roll right out of the station before you go up the lift hill or get any real speed. I was wearing cargo shorts with velcro pockets and had my keys in my left pocket. The seat and restraint configuration was tight on my thighs and the way that my keys were oriented, I had one or two keys poke/digging into my leg. It was very uncomfortable, but I didn't feel it until I was fully buckled in, so before the ride started I reached down and from the outside of my shorts I tried to adjust the keys to lay flat (SUCCESS!)

I didn't realize at the time that in adjusting them, I must have also forced open the velcro. So on the slow roll - out they rolled! I heard a clink as they hit the bottom of the train or the track and my daughter saw them from the seat next to me and yelled "Daddy! You dropped your keys!"

When I spoke to a ride op when we got back, they told me that people lose stuff on that roll all the time and advised me to fill out a report - which I did.

Was it my fault? technically yes. Did I learn my lesson? yes. Was I upset? yes AT MYSELF. Did I ask or expect them to shut the whole ride down and go find my keys immediately? Absolutely NOT.

Proud to have fathered a second generation coaster enthusiast destined to keep me young at heart and riding coasters with a willing partner into my golden years!

Yeah, if one person can't make the effort to secure their belongings, why should hundreds of people have to wait?

Because the needs of the few (or the one) outweigh the needs of the many.

That may be the case in some instances, but this should not be one of them. If someone doesn't take the time to read and follow the rules, then the rest shouldn't have to deal with the consequences of that one mistake.

The difference between this and LCG is that what LCG purportedly suggested was something that could not be visually verified. This event was visually verified by Dr. Meyer, who to my knowledge is not a compulsive liar.

I've gotten re-rides on Raptor many times. I guess that makes it the new park policy. I think there is a difference between observing something and having that something be the official policy.

Having being visually verified and told by one employee, does not make it an official new policy. As point of my post was to point that out, not to call into question the truth of the head post.

I'm sure what was reported was true in his post, still doesn't make it any less of a LCG report.

There is also a difference between letting someone stay on a train when the park is dead and shutting down an entire ride and locking out so low zones can be entered.

Okay, our family has visited CP over 40 times each of the last seven years and none of us have ever lost an item on any ride until.......

Yesterday around noon we rode Skyhawk. I usually secure my wifes' cell. phone in a buttoned pocket of my shorts, but she kept it this time as she was wearing yoga pants that had a side pocket. As we exited our seats she reached for the phone & it was gone, she went back to the seat, it wasn't there. I scanned the cement area beneath the ride, no phone. Rather than hold-up the loading riders we exited and went back around to the entrance to tell the host. There were no other people in line at the time. We spotted the phone in the grass under the back-swing sticking out of the ground like a plugged golf ball. The host acknowledged it, retrieved it after the ride cycle with no delay for anyone. The phone was in perfect working condition, if it landed a few feet away it probably would have shattered.

If we didn't see the phone where it was we certainly wouldn't have any expectation for them to walk the area at that time, and I know that the ride footprint is smaller than the others that have been mentioned. Our thanks to the crew member that retrieved it.

Just like Rusty and his keys, sometimes conditions are just right for these things to happen even when you try to be a responsible rider. Our lesson yesterday: quit wearing yoga pants.

Oh, a couple days ago on Gatekeeper about 9:40am they stopped the ride. A worker retrieved one sandal halfway up the lift hill and brought it down to a woman waiting by the exit. Maybe 4 minute delay, but again there were hardly any people waiting at the time. I would think they wouldn't do that when it is crowded.

My 13 year old little sister accidentally lost a shoe on Firehawk at KI last year when she was getting on the coaster still in the station. They wouldn't retrieve it, and said we had to wait until the end of the night and then go to the lost and found to see if they brought it. We didn't throw a fit, and instead just walked to the car (with one shoe on) to get another pair of shoes. Alternatively, she could have bought some flip flops in the park for $19. Was it an inconvenience, sure, but was it her fault, yep. We still laugh about it today, and she definitely learned her lesson about wearing loose fitting shoes in the park. I think it's totally ridiculous if CP is actually doing this to get shoes/phones.

To quote RuPaul: "Condragulations. Chantay, you stay." :-)

What you've described I'm totally cool with.

I guess my issue is with folks who aren't being responsible with their belongings -- having their smartphone in their hands while the ride is in motion, and expecting it to be retrieved immediately -- that irks me.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

This wasn't at CP, but at Dorney last weekend, they shut down Meteor to find an item that some guy dropped. They were looking for about 10 minutes. I don't know what the item was, but it was irritating to have to wait for that. And I don't think they ever found it.

I am next to board Magnum as I type this. Some guy just came up the exit ramp to complain about losing an item. The ride is now down so they can retrieve it.

It's been a couple hours. I'm guessing they didn't find it?

Promoter of fog.

No clue if it was found, but it was probably a 15 minute downtime. Many guests in the station were annoyed and were mocking the "Cedar Point is not responsible for lost or damaged items" tagline

Was there today (lovely day for the Park) and noticed valravn was closed when we went to ride. Waited a few minutes then noticed the maintenance bucket going up the hill. Midway up, Maintenance guy got out, picked something up off the steps, and came right back down. Ride then reopened a few minutes later. Couldn't help but feel it was a lost article. Nevermind the hour long line of people waiting. Why does anyone wonder why we have so much entitlement these days.

First ride; Magnum 1994

When I was there this past Saturday evening, apparently someone lost their glasses on Blue Streak. They shut down the ride and the location supervisor went to look for them. Not sure if he found them or not. We'll never know, lol. Sorry I had to put that in there cause he & I are good friends. Anyway the girl that was speiling did an excellent job with cedar point trivia. Keep up the great work Blue Streak Crew!!!!

Glasses are sort of a grey area as some are nearly blind without them. Though if you are you should have a strap and a backup pair in the car. Last year on a visit my oldest forgot his althetic glasses and we had to buy a strap in a shop but it was poor quality and nearly useless.

"Glasses must be secured with an athletic strap on Valravn, GateKeeper, Maverick, maXair, Power Tower, Skyhawk, Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister."

I remember last year the ops were very diligent with the policy and frequently questioning Ryan about his until he showed the strap. Have not seen that this year.

We were heading toward Valravn during that brief down time as well.

And yesterday was indeed a beautiful day for the park. I went with my friend visiting from St Louis who loves CP but hadn't been in many, many years. He added 4 new coasters to his list and a bunch of new flats.
It was moderately busy, CP Shores not so much, probably due to cooler (read: perfect) temperature. The money I paid for FP+ was some of the best I've spent all week. We got 27 rides at a leisurely pace and it was a big help for many of those. Too bad TTD was down, but my friend had ridden it before.

Side note: I rode Slingshot for the first (and last) time ever. It was REALLY scary fun, and we got a "good" ride which included a face-down launch (terrifying), probably three flips (not so common) and a couple of good face-plants at the bottom of the bounce. My legs were rubber afterwards and when we got off I slapped my friend around for making me go. (Much to the delight of the crowd who had gathered to listen to my crying.)

I realize this is an old topic, but......this morning at 9:15am we road GateKeeper. Right side, row #2, inside seat for me. After the ride we went through the photo area when I felt the need to check my pockets as I usually do after rides. Oh no! My phone was MIA! I had foolishly failed to place it in my buttoned pocket, instead it was in the regular front pocket. I went back up the entrance and they told me nobody had found a phone as of yet. They will walk the ride footprint later tonight, hopefully it will be at Lost & Found Sunday morning. There is alot of cement below that ride, hopefully it isn't in pieces, or on the roof of the entrance gates.

How will I call for my tee time tomorrow? Oh well, at least I will avoid all those texts from Mrs. jimmyburke.

Yes! Thanks to the GateKeeper crew members that found my phone. I checked Lost & Found at 8:45am today and they had maybe 15 or so phones from yesterday on the counter. Mine was in the GateKeeper pile. Unfortunately the back cover is missing, the screen is totally crackled, & it rained overnight & got wet. As of now it turns on but is unusable. It was my own fault, but thanks for the effort, crew.

That is ridiculous, but if CP's policy is to retrieve cell phones on the fly now, that is ridiculous as well. WDW (and CP) should just have the cops show up with cuffs and convert an "irate guest making a big enough scene" into a "prisoner charged with disorderly conduct". At least boot them from the park if not a trip to jail. That way, there would be no opportunity to trespass into a low zone. If they never come back, so much the better.

You’re absolutely ridiculous.
