New "Ultimate" Lighthouse Point Sites

djDaemon's avatar

If it's 25 sites, I don't see how that would come close to utilizing the entire property. Even if the sites were each 20% larger it still leaves tons of space.

Keep in mind that when the deluxe cabins were added in 2014 to replace Camper Village, those were not ready until a few weeks into season. I wouldn't automatically assume that this isn't a permanent installation because they're opening in June. I would imagine that the peak demand does not occur in May so not being ready until June doesn't sound like a big deal.

I was actually there the day the first Deluxe Cabin arrived and got to tour the new model that day while it was in the parking lot next to Gemini. The site prep was done for the most part at the time and the delay was said to come from the manufacturer of the cabins.

For RV sites there isn't anything to do but site prep work, so I can't see a delay until June being anything other than late planning.

Not all Ultimate Sites are going to be Lake View.

So that leaves even more undeveloped lakefront property.

Good work Brandon, that puts a great perspective on the site.

How would that make them "Ultimate" then?

I'm fully aware of the construction scope being relatively minimal for these. But late planning or not, my point was just simply that it doesn't mean this isn't part of their long term permanent plan. Just because it could be opening "late" because of late planning/decision making, does not mean its temporary.

And for what it's worth to validate part of your point, I have heard by word of mouth that Cedar Fair in general is still notorious for slow decision making and late planning resulting in rushed and compromised projects.

The view will not distinguish the Ultimate sites. The Ultimate sites will have the following amenities that the other sites do not have.

  • Expanded Private Patio Seating Area with Dining Table and 6 Chairs
  • Wood-Burning Fire Pit Surrounded by 4 Adirondack Chairs
  • 2 Person Glider Swing

According to JefH's post on the pricing, he listed the following:

Prices:

Depending on dates: $137 average per night with taxes for non-lake-view. $150 with taxes for lake-view.

So some (with the lake view) will be more ultimate than others.

CP police will have a fun time trying to explain to some RV sites why they can’t have fire pits and others can.
And don’t get me wrong I understand the difference, I’m just pointing out the obvious issue that will arise. They already have to ask people to put out their fire pits as it has been in the past.

Sure, but there is a premium to the lake view.

Interesting point on the fire pits. From my understanding the City of Sandusky does not allow ground fires. Does a fire pit that has it's own base and is not burning on the ground exempt?

I really never thought much about having a fire because it is either too hot or we are never at our site long enough to tend to it.

I used the chat feature on CP reservation webpage. They confirmed the sites and said they will go on sale to the people without reservations around the end of the next week.

I think in addition to the City's regulation, is a State regulation (I believe) of spacing between campers/sites. The current sites are too close together to allow for fires.

The new sites will be larger and more spread out than the previous ones. As Amaze found out, there will be 25 total "Ultimate" sites. That includes both Lake-View and Non-Lake-View sites. That also includes some pull-through sites, in addition to the back-in Lake-View sites. The thing that sets them all apart from the old is the Fire pit, chairs, table, and built-in brick grill.

Based on what we know, (25 sites total, some back-in, some pull-through, some lake-view) this is likely the arrangement (or something like it). It still leaves room for something else on the beach side of the peninsula.

If Breakers does remain the flagship, that's a disappointment. It's nice, but certainly not "flagship" nice.

I'm with Pete - maybe this is going to be in addition to a future hotel.

I’m very curious why Breakers is not “flagship” nice in your opinion. What does it need to have the flagship nice feel that you’re longing for?

A decent restaurant would be a start.

Wouldn't it be sweet if they built a hotel back there with an architectural theme of a lighthouse? There is a precedent for such a thing (pictured below is one located in Scotland). It would certainly put an exclamation point on "Lighthouse Point".

And campfires aren’t allowed. That, more than the price, has always been the dealbreaker for me.

According to JeffH's parents email there will be wood burning fire pits. Safe to assume they will be allowing campfires?

Right. My point being that previously not being able to have campfires was the biggest dealbreaker. If JeffH’s pricing holds true, I may have to give these sites a try. I did see several campfires in portable fire pits the last couple summers. I asked the folks at the reservation line, they said you can have a fire if it is more than 4” off the ground. So it does sound like some sort of ground fire ordinance. But I do know the KOA and Camp Sandusky both have fire pits right on the ground.

ROUNDABOUND.

Kevin, only if they named it Mr. Scott’s Lighthouse Point. Water would most certainly be involved.

I think if some cabins are moved the waterpark could expand with a watercoaster/ more waterslides or a coaster could fly out there and back! Both would be sweet! Especially if its a 400-500 footer starting in the Antique Cars by Maverick or Shoot the Rapids site and turn around back there! That would be sweet!!

Campfires allowed? I volunteer to be the vendor to sell firewood, I will charge CP type prices. I will have maybe 4 or 5 logs bundled together with twine for $40.00 or so. "Ultimate Package" would feature wood scraps from Mean Streak for $200.00. For future planning purposes I will have Mime Ride beams for $100.00.

No open flames allowed when a stiff NE wind is present, they don't want to burn down Steel Vengeance.
