Since not much is going on lately I thought i'd write about Wildcat.
My 6yr old son and I are fans of Wildcat. My son asked me if we ever had the money could we get one in our backyard.
Anyway, what are the chances they will ever update the cars? I think Mini Coopers would look cool. What does everyone else think?
I think putting modern looking cars on a 30 year old coaster would look a tad odd. I've always thought Wildcat's cars were cool, but would be much cooler if they had functioning head and tail lights. Wildcat is one of the most underrated rides in the park. Whenever I'm a the park with friends I always insist we go on but there's always that one person who says it's boring. I sure prove them wrong after we get off.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I wouldn't expect the park to retheme the cars. However, I am also a fan of Wild Cat. My girlfriend told me that it was one of the rides that she couldn't ride in the park (she thinks that it has been taken apart and put together too many times). When I saw that the line was relatively short for it on my last trip, I just had to ride it. She decided that she would go with me after all. We laughed all the way through the ride.
I have really fond memories of Wild Cat and this year was the first time that I rode it in quite a few years (probably at least 10 years.)
...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
And we hope we can say the same for Maverick next year too.
eat. sleep. ride! - Coaster apparel and accessories!
Ride on, MrScott!
Wildcat is definitely very underrated. I usually try to ride at least once or twice every season. I'd ride it more, but it has desperately slow throughput. A line that looks like five minutes will stretch twenty. I prefer to grab that one on a slow day.
While on topic, what thoughts does anyone have on the future of the mouse coaster? We've had themed mice, interior mice, spinning mice. What's next? Personally I'd like to see one incorporate water features. Imagine the sprays and waterfalls of Thunder Canyon, on a mouse. That would be very cool, imo.

I dont know about youre backyard air_time_bob, but I have access to a couple of acres of square open land just ripe for development.:) Well ok its relatively open....minus the pullbarn that my class is right now building.
I did abit of looking into the land coverage and found out you could fit a good size coaster in it. I figured that if it was positioned just right, a decent sized 170+ footer with tight and unique elements could fit in the property.
Here's an aerial of the property.

Oohh no, the Wildcant can't be changed. paint it, yes. definatly make the headlights and taillights work, but keep the cars the same. Its all part of the coolness!!

Answer: You don't...
Making the headlights and taillights work would be interesting, but a pain too.
I guess small lead acid batteries could be used with their on charger build on board each car. Low voltage contacts could be placed on the track in the station area to provide a charging current.
Also, it would be nice if they would ground Wildcats cars to the rails. On dry days, the employees get one hell of a shock sometimes. Then again, guests that like to touch the handrails, and other bars throughout the ride would get an even more potent shock. Great deterrence.
Wildcat has becoma a rare example of a once very common coaster from a different age. I can't say how much i enjoy this ride. I hit it every visit during the summer because the line is rarely longer than the first switch on the que and translates to a line under 30 minutes or far less.
I do hate the new colors though; but the lighting package and cars take me back to the old days when Blue Streak and Gemini were the big night rides in the park. To loose this little gem of a coaster would really hurt the parks ties to its past.
I haven't taken a spin on the Wildcat ever since they repainted it. I would like to, but the line is always long and slow. As far as I remember, the ride isn't half bad. It seems like they've been running fewer cars at the same time. Maybe it's just me.
I've fallen victim to a nasty static shock from the Wildcat. My young, idiotic self reached out to touch a nearby support beam, and ZAP. It was quite a painful moment. It certainly taught me "to keep hands inside the car at all times."

The cars are designed to have working lights and taillights. Some do sometimes, I believe they are powered through the track.
