Check it out. Sounds like there's a possibility that Soak City will be included in the park's admission and connect somehow with the boardwalk project. I think it's a good idea. It might disperse the crowds more.
Also, it goes on to say that the world's largest floorless coaster could be a part of this project...Peanuts Playground area? I know it's just rumors, but Screamscape is pretty reliable compared to Thrillride. Jeff knows this for a fact.

i am not a waterpark man at all. i have never been to soak city, so i dont know the quality. when i first learned that soak city was extra, i though that was ludicrous....... not that i was planning on going to the water park anyway. i hope they add it to general admission so it draws in the crowds during the hot summer days.

I think it would be great if they added SC to the main admission price. I'm the only one in my family that rides coasters. My daughter prefers the water park, my wife is a dud and doesn't really like parks in general, and well my twins are just turning 2 next Friday so I have to wait and see about them. I'm hoping at least one of them will brave the coasters with dad cause I've lost all hope for the 10 year old. :-)

Dorney Park in Allentown PA, another Cedar Fair park, already includes their water park in the day's admission. It's always struck me as odd that CP doesn't. Personally, I'd kinda like to be able to cool off in the waterpark around midday, then return to the rides.

That Cedar Point does not include Soak City as part of the same admission makes some logical sense when you consider Cedar Point as a resort, and note the fact that Soak City is accessible to people who have not paid admission to the amusement park. To visit Wildwater Kingdom, you must purchase a day's admission to Dorney Park. I should also note that Wildwater Kingdom was included as part of the Dorney Park admission before Cedar Fair bought the place.
Now, it would be fairly simple for Cedar Point to make Soak City accessible to amusement park patrons without making it impossible to visit Soak City by itself...by simply honoring amusement park readmission stamps at the Soak City entrance. I can say from experience a couple of weeks ago at Kings Island that a no-extra-charge waterpark has the effect of sucking lots and lots of people out of the main park, because everybody is in the wave pool or in the lazy river, or waiting to go down a slide. On a 90-degree day I had a 20 minute wait for The Beast while most park patrons were over in the waterpark.
With all that said, though, I can remember one day last season when Soak City was so busy that there were no parking spaces back there, and I actually had to park in the main lot. The amusement park was not terribly crowded. So apparently there are either a lot of combo tickets sold or there are a lot of combo passes out there...either way, Soak City seems to be doing well enough as an extra-pay...

Again, consider the dollar...
You own a water park that is often filled to capacity for much of the summer and you charge a separate admission. Why in God's name would you throw all that income away?

First off Boz, you are saying Dorney Park is also Cedar Fair, which is true. But, then again, you are talking Dorney, which is a nice little park, but we're talkin' Cedar Point here, the biggest park in the world, with only Magic Mountain anywhere close. Then again, Jeff, how many more FAMILIES are we going to bring in with a double park for just a few extra bucks? If you think hard about that, you figure you get 4.2 people with a family, compared to 2 with a couple, and that money adds up fast when you get twice as much people in one group, even if they are only paying 10 for one of the kids. What Dave said makes perfect sense. Do something like with re-admission slips to get back into the Cedar Point half(or should I say 7/8'ths) of the park, and that would work great. I think that adding Soak City would not be a bad idea, just jack the price up to 42.95 for both parks, and enable people to just enter Soak City by itself also. You know the price of entrance will go up sooner or later, so why not now, with an added bonus? Even if you don't use the slides, think how much more coaster time you would have. Imagine a half hour wait for Raptor on a normal July day...and that would be the norm if we added Soak City.
Cayl: Have you ever been to Soak City in July? Further more is $42 a good value for just the main park at the beginning and end of the season? I think not. If I had to nail down demographics, I'd venture to guess that 90% of Soak City guests are resort guests and pass holders on a capacity day. I'd further guess that the average age is somewhere in the upper-teens to low twenties. Soak City is not packing in the adults and I doubt very highly that people my age and up would pay a single admission to have the benefit of the water park (which frankly you wouldn't have time to do anyway if you're trying to hit the coasters).

Yeah, it's loaded like nobody's business. But, you are missing one of my major points. Can you honestly say that the FunDay entrance fee is going to stay the same forever? No, you can't, because sooner or later, Cedar Fair is going to make another decision to add another monstrosity of a ride, and the price will go up again.
What happened this year? Millennium Force. What else happened? Inflation. So, with the way the trends in the economy and inflation are going, sooner than later it's going to hit that mark anyway. Can you honestly say that back in '94 when Raptor was new that you thought the entrance fee would ever be $38? What about in the 80's? We can't predict what Cedar Point will decide in the future, just like most of us couldn't predict that we would ever break 300 feet at the PO!NT. But it did, so who is saying there won't be 20 coasters at the PO!NT by '10, and the fee to get in won't be 50?
What I am saying is why not just add the four bucks now, and get a water park out of it, instead of jack squat and more dinero for entrance anyway? Some may see it differently, as you seem to Jeff, but that is good. If everyone thought the same, life wouldn't be interesting.
I'm just going to relax for the next dos days now, until I Get To The PO!NT again.

The bottom line is in Jeff's post above. The way it is now makes CP the most money and it seems to be working for them. Since they are probably not looking for ways to decrease their income, it will stay the way it is.
My guess is that CP has a much higher percentage of multi-day visitors than SFO and and PKI do. If they were attracting as many people to their own hotels as CP is, they would probably have separate admission for water parks too.

Regarding the park's jump in admission this year, I think it has more to do with what the market will bare (they're below average still) and the fact that they are agressively pursuing capital improvement in the form of hotel rooms.
If inflation remained constant at 2% (it's actually slightly lower, but it will depend on what the Fed does or doesn't do with interest rates over the course of the year, among other factors), it will take five years to reach $42 if indeed they used inflation as a benchmark.
That said, why would you at any time remove the $15 to $21 SC admissions from your budget? That's like throwing away something on the order of $30 million (assuming an average admission of $10 in consideration of pass holders and package discounts on 300,000 visitors per year). Where are you going to get that $30 million? Adding $5 to the admission price will only generate an additional $17.5 million (assuming park entry of 3.5 million guests with EVERY one of them paying full price on each visit).
Look at the numbers... Cedar Point isn't a charity.

You may have misunderstood me somewhere or I didn't make the point clear: we are not eliminating single-day admissions to Soak City ONLY. You would still have the ability to go to Soak City only, and not be able to enter the park. You're not losing any money there, with (about)the same amount of people entering the water park only. You will lose some money on the Ride & Ride Again's and Combo Passes, sure. But, if you look at what the general public will think, (and this *IS* how they think, believe me) "Hey, Cedar Point's water park-thingie is included in the entrance fee now, why don't we go check it out?" They go to the park, don't have time for the entire park and Soak City in one day, (because they are the GP, and don't know better) decide they want to come again, and there is 160 more dollars out of that family for entrance. You may even get a night at Breakers or Express out of them, if they are loaded with $ and have the time. Now, I realize that what I just wrote is utter and total guesswork and may (READ: PROBABLY--)not be true. But, how would anyone get anywhere without taking a risk or two? Cedar Point would not be where they are now if they never put that water swing in back 80-90 some years ago. But, we have to think this way, too, we aren't making the decisions for the PO!NT. If I was, we'd already be dropping footers for GhostRider, and that 225-foot deca-inverted Floorless.

Think about it--if you were a resort excursionist and were thinking of spending a relaxing and normally uncrowded WEdnesday in Soak CIty, the last thing you would want is an entire midway of one day tour bus crowds flocking to only sixteen+ waterslides. If you're not getting the analogy here, just think of how upset most of you are concerning the MF fast pass system and its detirmental affects to walk-ons on other rides. The same would happen to the laid-back resort atmosphere of Soak City if this were part of park admission. This is why the park has three major water rides that I may note have exceedingly low ridership on most days.
Less money spent at the Soak City gates means less captial expenditures on improvements to Soak City. Do you really want to see a second rate water park dragging down the image of Cedar Point just because a few people weren't wiling to cough up the extra bucks for a second admission or (god forbid)--a season combo pass, which pays for itself even if you only spend a four day vacation at the Point?!
That's my story and I'm stickin to it.
