In light of what seems to be the legit new announcement for next year, I just thought it'd be fun to look back and see what all rides, attractions, or improvements we thought were coming versus what actually did.
I remember in 1998-2000ish the rumors seemed to be concentrated around Oceana and that fabled Boardwalk project that never quite manifested itself in the same way people expected; most of the rumors seemed to go away around when WT debuted in 2002, though I do seem to recall an awful lot of complaining that Wicked Twister wasn't -enough-.
That's the biggest one I remember, but aside from that, digging into Archive.org and finding the Guide to the Point 2000 Survey, I thought this was interesting:
After Millennium Force, Cedar Point needs:
8% A sit-down looper.
43% A woodie, preferably by CCI.
9% A LIM-powered ride.
17% An S&S "Thrust Air" coaster.
23% A floorless coaster. The public has spoken. Yes, with the CCI craze spreading like wild fire, and comments on the CCI Site from Cedar Fair chief Dick Kinzel like, "This is a ride that should be in every theme park," referring to Ghostrider, is it any wonder that there is demand for something like this?
Speaking of that, I wonder what happened with that CCI statement. Maybe Kinzel just didn't want to work with anybody else after CCI folded?
That being said, anybody else remember any rides that were heavily rumored, or that people wanted to happen but never did?

That's because I made it up. It was a lie, fabrication, etc. It's what I use today to point out how silly rumors can fester into facts with little effort.

That's because it was a damn good believable rumor! 1998-2000 was at the peak of the "swing era" renaissance and that part of the park is where the history is especially if you throw in the old ballroom. Even Kennywood capitalized on this with "Lost Kennywood" during that time period.
Thanks. Please send your recommendations to hire me to Rob Decker, VP of Planning and Design. :)

Rumor, joke, or whatever....The "Boardwalk Project" is still a great idea for expansion! A common concern with many resort guests is the lack of adult things to do after the park closes. Why not develop the beach area with a more entertaining boardwalk for people to enjoy. The beach area between Breakers and Sandcastle suites seems like a complete waste of space currently. Although the area is not very large, it could be developed into a boardwalk with some nightlife that would add a whole new demention to Cedar Point after dark, especially for resort guests.
I agree with you on the nightlife issue. TGIFridays had a variable schedule in regards to closing time the last time I stayed at Breakers. It would be nice if they had some late night food and drink you could count on. Not everyone that books a vacation at the resort has a family, and some late night music, food, and drinks would be nice.
