New Ride...

Although Cedar Point will not be making a new coaster for the 2004 season, is it likely that they will shot for the 2005 season. I dont think that they could break any new ride records so soon, but another nice steel looper wouldnt hurt Cedar Point. Just wondering what all of you think about it....
The real governing factor is the anticipated return on investment. What is the point of investing money into anything when pretty much know it's not going to make any in return.

Cedar Fair is a company. The board's main concern is to better the company in the long term. All decisions made are attempting to accomplish their main concern.

Just when I think they won't attempt to break another record is always when they do. CP never ceases to surprise me, and that is one of the reasons why I keep going back.

When thinking of a new coaster that Cedar Point will install, look at rides they don't have yet. They have yet to build a floorless and flyer (as well as a 4-D, but those have yet to have been proven a good investment). They could also try to build the world's tallest woodie again, but I think that this may be wishful thinking.

Whatever they add, you can be sure it will break some world records.

Right now I'm thrilled with all of the sprucing up Cedar Point has started to do with their coasters. Raptor, Wildcat, and Mantis have all been painted in recent years, and from what I gather, Iron Dragon is getting a fresh coat this year as well as Magnum, and possibly Corkscrew. For next year, as well as future years, I look forward to seeing more visually appealing coasters. Let's hope that MF is on the list too, because that rich royal blue of 2000 is really missed.

Corkscrew has already gotten a paint job. The loops have never looked so good.

Lord do we need a good woodie.

Ohio State, here I come!

The problem with breaking records with every new coaster is the fact that everyone now assumes that the next ride will be a record breaker. What happens if it isn't? The reaction might be "it isn't anything special," thus not attracting as many guests. I think they may have got themselves into a position where they have to bring in record breaking coasters every time they build a new one. Could be a good or bad thing; depends on how you look at it.

Actually, I think as long as CF doesnt go in the direction SF went and Clone almost every ride they build. I dont think it will be a big disappointment if CP doesnt build a record breaker.

I agree. Uniqueness will be the key to a new ride's success. The reason a ride like Magnum has stood the test of time is not only because it broke records when first introduced, but also because it is a very unique ride with lots of character. Let's hope CP continues this tradition.

Kinzel already announced 2007 will be his last year. If I were CEO, I'd certainly want to go out with something "impressive", and there's no better park to do it at than Cedar Point.

I don't think he can wait 2004 to 2007 without adversely affecting the park (need to keep those turnstiles revolving). I'd look for something "special" in 2005, but something "spectacular" in 2007... In fact, I'd even guess that things are in the works now, or will be shortly, for the 2007 "party". This one will be worth the wait, I'm sure!

Hey, I heard a rumor that Millennium Force is sinking...

I agree. I look for a new coaster in 2005...maybe a flyer or a floorless (since Dorney is getting one). But I think 2007 will bring something huge.

I doubt Cedar Point would put in a ride that doesn't break a record. I'm guessing they'll build the tallest and fastest floorless or flyer, or the most loops. Something like that. Can you imagine if they built a 200' flyer, only a single restraint would be between you and the a 200' space to the ground.

I don't see a ride taller or faster than TTD or MF for a while. But think of what CP has done in the past three years, they opened three amazing attractions, including the first 300 and 400' coasters. If they can do that in three years think of what they can do by 2007.

we were talking about this at the end of the season, and we expect a B&M to come in 2005, because cedar fair buys rides in 3's. i also heard that if cedar point does get a new ride, it will go back where antique cars are now, and the antique cars will be no more. there is a lot of room back there so keep a look out in the next few years for rides to come in there.

This is true. The real estate that the Antique Cars resides on is rather large. I think that a B&M flyer would look great back there. It seems to me that a flyer could fit in with the frontier theme as long as they pick the right color and name. They could also silence the roar of the trains by filling the box spine with pea gavel. My only request is that for them to keep some of those massive trees in that area. That is one of the last places in the park that is totally in the shade.

This summer it was pretty evident that they were making improvements to that general area because they were painting buildings, replacing fences, etc.

If they tried to build a record breaking floorless in that same area, it just wouldn't work because the ride would be too tall so it would ruin the environment back there.

They may go back to get the record for speed and height in 2007. Top Thrill Dragster isn't the fastest ride in the world anymore.

Cedar Fair does not buy rides in 3's. They buy rides which they feel are good investments. It just so happened that CF decided to go with 3 Intamin rides in a row because CF was interested in what Intamin would provide for them.

I surely hope not. Building the worlds tallest woody would be a bad idea in my opinion. The "bigger is better" concept just doesn't work that well for wooden coasters. The majority of the top ranked woodies aren't normally much over 100 feet.

After the problems with TTD they're probably going to go with a tried and true ride. I think a floorless or a flyer are a good posibility.

I personally would love to have some GCI wood appear at the Point. A' la Lighting Racer at HP.
