New policy for re-entering the park

When I entered the park this past Saturday I received my note that said effective immediately season passes will only be scanned once per day. If you wish to exit, and re-enter the park you will need to have your hand stamped.

Can't say that I like that!

No good reason comes to mind. Any ideas?
maybe they are going to switch TTR over to the Disney-style FastPass where they scan your ticket/season pass to issue the TTRs. i believe this system only allows one ticket per ride per person at one time...

My guess is that the new system for the digital ID's is in and they're starting the conversion.

that's probably more on the money...

Possibly to keep people from cheating the system and handing the pass over to their friends or something, because a lot of times the admissions people don't look at it too closely. Or if you have a friend in admissions, you're all set...

CrystalKat has the answer, to avoid cheating the system, not that any of us would (wink-wink). Disneyland has had that policy (for season passholders) in place for longer than I can remember.

Actually, I've always gotten my hand stamped anyway, never even thought twice about it. I'd always figured that since they SCAN the pass, it was only good for one admission/day to prevent you from using it, then giving it to a friend, etc.

So to me, this new "policy" doesn't change my behavior at all. *shrug*

CrystalKat is right. The slip says the park is doing this "to increase the security associated with our passes."

I suppose I can understand the policy, though I don't think I like it. Even with the new rule, I probably won't be boycotting CP any time soon ;)

NOTE TO HAND STAMPERS

It is not necessary, or desirable, to saturate the stamp with ink to the point that it drips off of your arm and yellows your skin. You wouldn't do it with visible ink, so what's the story? You folks are using so much ink that looking at it later under the ultraviolet it just looks like a blob. That kind of defeats the purpose, don't you think?

I have always rescanned because of this practice of soaking my arm. The last time I did it, I rode disaster transport to find it literally covering most of my forearm. That stuff can't be good for you.

Excellent point, Jeff. I've wondered about that, since they are supposed to be able to read what it is or whatever -- but when it's just a blob, how can you tell? The stuff doesn't wash off easily, so if you get your hand "blobbed" the day before, what's to stop you from coming in the park for free the next day a couple of hours after it opens and claiming that it's today's stamp?

The stamp has the "word of the day" on it. They rotate those words daily.

Also the color changes from day to day...yellow yesterday, but I have also seen violet and pink.

My guess is that while it is true that the new policy would improve season pass security, Scott is probably correct in that it has something to do with an upgrade to the admissions computer. Most parks have had a "one scan per day" system for season passes for *years*; my guess is that Cedar Point is upgrading from a system which was incapable of that little bit of data logging.

(I'll also side with Scott on this one because we discussed it yesterday... :) )

The season pass' have a picture ID. Unless your on Springer for plastic surgery to look like your girl friend then you probably can't reuse a pass.

This also raises the problem for the people (such as myself) that go to soak city for a few hours and wish to return to the park. On more than one occasion have I had trouble getting back in with a washed off stamp.

Why is it they stamp the INSIDE of your arm?I was carrying stuff out to my car and the girl couldnt get to the inside of my arm so she was pissed she had to stamp my hand.Just curious.

I never get my hand stamped. I feel the same way Jeff does. For me it works out one of two ways, I get a ton of ink, or I get practically no ink and it looks like I'm trying to sneek in the place.

I with Jeff and Dan, I always rescan because I don't like getting all of that crud smeared all over my arm.
This sounds almost as bad as those stupid Millennium tickets. As I for one stay at the park a lot. I might ride Millennium Force in the morning and go to Soak City only to return at night to go on a few more rides.
Another thing is what if you do not think you are going back to the park. My family often goes to only Soak City. On occasion I will do the same as mentioned above and not get my hand stamped because I don't even think of coming back in the park.

The biggest problem I think though is that the stamps are known to come off in Soak City.
