I edited my post to include a link to the site plan.
How many floors is the new dorm building going to have? And witch dorm building is being torn down on site or are both being torn down?
When I look at the site plan I see one (1) 3-story dorm (in yellow) and 2-staging areas (in red). Where are the other two dorms?
Currently Cedars and Gold dorms hold between 800 and 900 employees. It will take more than one 3-story dorm to hold that many employees. I look for Gold Dorms to be vacated and torn down this winter and maybe Cedars next winter--maybe!
My bad I couldn't read the read boxes I thought they were dorms I hope the cedars go this winter because I have a feeling that 2014 will have to do with the blue streak area because it's never been touched in 50 years
Interesting. At least now it's been confirmed that housing will get moved off point in the near future.

Top 5 CP Coasters: 1. Steel Vengeance 2. Millennium Force 3. Maverick 4. Dragster 5. Magnum
Coaster Count: 102
That single structure is big enough to absorb the loss of units from Cedars OR Golds, not both. The size is more appropriate to be a direct Cedars Replacement, as the removal of Golds does not open up any useable space.
On a personal note, is basic grammar and punctuation no longer taught in our schools? Some of the recent posts have been borderline incoherent.

This is definitely reading a bit too into the plan that was posted, but it really looks like they've got their eyes on those homesites directly above the dorms. Aren't too many existing homes on those lots and I wouldn't be surprised if they're prepared to buy out anyone still living in therm.
Looking at an aerial map, if one draws a line extending Catalina Street on the waterfront to 5th Street, the decrease in house density in comparison to the west side of this line does make you wonder. They've definitely got lots of potential room for a more proper employee village if they wanted.
i went on google earth and the homes around the dorms look like there abandened and there's lot of open lots. cedar point could by them out in the future to build another dorm building because a new 3 story building cant be big enough to house the gold and cedar dorms
^You base that on... what, exactly?

The removal of the Gold dorms does open up useable space. They could expand the hotel parking lot. And the hotel needs more parking.

The plans Walt linked to clearly say "2013 Commons Dormitory" on them. Perhaps there's a second part coming in 2014 or 2015? They wouldn't have to do it all at once.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
For what it's worth, here's the entire report from the Planning Commission.

Given that this one new dorm (with a very small footprint) will presumably replace Cedars, it stands to reason that another one or two would be sufficient to replace Golds. Seems like acquiring land for a "village" would be massive overkill.

I just wish employee dorms didn't look like a prison facility..
Hopefully these dorms won't have any problems associated with the current dorms and all previous and current employees know what I'm talking about

On one hand, it is sort of sad to me that they could never come up with a better use for a historic building like Cedars and that it seems destined for the wrecking ball. On the flip side of that, the employees deserve much better living space than what they have right now, and I can't imagine that a purpose built high density dormitory won't be beneficial to that end. Also, for the park itself, it adds usable space, means foot traffic for Luminosity might be alleviated, blah blah blah, all the stuff we've heard in talking about moving the road back and getting rid of Cedars.
Lol...I love that cedars was a male only dorm...I lol'd hard there...so many times I heard or saw both there haha

So for everyone that is interested or whatever...
Currently they are adding to the Employee Rec...it's a small gym, pal out, subway restaurant, pool table, ect..Dunno what's being added or why, noone used the rec really other than for subway. The gym portion had broken treadmills & stuff while I was there, it was better to get a gym membership at the local anytime fitness or whatever. Hopefully this means that the rec center will turn around.
In the future they'll build a 3 story dorm next to the 1400's (building L shaped next to yellow proposed 3 story dorm for the future)
Man...I miss and don't miss living in 1400's. I blared Gorillaz, Daft Punk, ect. all day and night, partied hard, and had lots of memories of happenings in my room :) I wonder who occupies it now lols

Why such a fuss about the big piles of dirt outside my window? Don't you know that it's an Intamin Mega Lite for employees only?
Don't be sad over the loss of Cedars, that building should have been condemned long, long ago.
This is a project that is WICKEDLY overdue. Hopefully this is just the first of multiple new dorms because the existing ones are kinda overcrowded, which is why there are rooms with 3 lockers and 4 beds. And employee housing doesn't just LOOK like it prison, it's RAN like one too.
