new in 2006- have a couple questions

Hey! I was just hired to be a waitress at cp in the summer (late May) and I have a couple questions:

1. Do waitresses make any tip money?(I'll be working in the park)
2.I was thinking about living in the commons, is this a good choice? Or am I not going to have a choice b/c im comming so late?
3. What is there to do when youre not working? And, do you have time to go out after work? Whats the avg number of hours you work in a day?
4.Im not bringing my truck (Id never make it from FL to OH- Im awful with directions, I can barely make it to Disney and I like 2 hrs away) am I screwed on transportation?
5.What should I bring? ( my straightner and blow-dryer are a must)
6. Any other helpful hints...

Thanks, This is the first time Ive been excited to work...ha ha

Ah- forgot the most important question- I know youre not allowed to show tattoos while youre working but what about on your own time? and if youre in the park on your own time?

1- I hope they do, otherwise I wonder who has been getting my money.

2- Commons is "the best". As for choice, Gold doesn't even open until late May.

3- I can't speak for time off in foods, but after work we'd go to a resturant/bar and in my time off I went to the park or sometimes home (not so much a choice for you).

4- Make a lot of friends (you will anyway).

5&6 - Others can help you with.

Bouns - When you're off the clock, you can do/wear whatever you want in the park, as long as it follows the rules all guests have to follow.

All servers are in a tip position just depending on what resturant you work at will determine how much you get(average). You usually work an avg of 50 hrs a week---you work 6 days a week. The park is only open to 10 on weekdays so there is plenty of time to go out, and you more then likely not close all the time. Your not screwed on transportion--there is a bus system and you tend to make a lot of friends and someone is likely to have a vechile. Just bring the essentials---there isn't a lot of space where you live and plus you end up buying a lot while you are there for the summer. my best advice--have fun :-) My first year i was told--it's not soo much the job you come for it's the friends and memories.

You do get tips from waitressing. Good tips at Mac's from what I've heard. I've been azt CP 3 seasons and everyone I've known in Restraunts that get tipped, they all do well. Last Summer i bartended and did well.

Commons is about the nicest you'll get. Except bayside but that's hard to get. I'd choose the ddorms because at most you'll only have three other roomates but loads of people on your floor. In the artments there are a max of 16 people and two bathrooms to share. I've lived in every type building so...

Time off...well the first couple months are rough and days off are few. But when the colleges let out and the Internationals get there end of May/ Begin of June it gets better. It's possible to get as many as two days off a week. One year I actually had three days off once but worked practically open to close the other days.

As far as having a vehicle it's not terrible important. I have always had a car there and had no problem. I usually always ended giving people rides places. I guess I'm just a nice guy. Anyway there is a taxi service and buses that also take people into town i.e. the mall, Wal-Mart, movie theatre, library, etc. So you do have some options.

Stuff to Bring: Small frig, TV, VCR/DVD player, stereo, fan, basic household stuff like plates or cups, and yes the typical girl stuff. You will have roomates so count on sharing or borrowing stuff that they bring. It's sometimes easier to know what to bring if you know your roomates ahead of time but that minght no be possible in your case. So use your best judgement on "expensive" things that you do bring.

Addition thoughts: Make sure that you bring something that can be locked up if you end up in the apartments or a lock if you're in the dorms. Not to scare you but stuff does get stolen so be careful. Books are nice to have on "nice" days off. Skates or rollerblades, although not allowed in the park, are a nice form of recreation. There is a rec center that has a moderate workout area too. Bring an open mind! If you haven't heard yet, which you probably haven't, Cedar Point has a large gay population. Many of which are extremely outgoing and fun people to work with. I knew several last year and we where good freinds.

You correst, tattoos cannot be visible to guests of Cedar Point while in uniform. If they are you'll be told to get cosmetic stuff to cover them. When you aren't working I don't believe anyone cares, as long as you ID isn't visible.

Wow that's a lot of info I've given. It just shows how long I've been working there...Sad lol. Anyway if there is anything else you need to know my email is aikenite98@hotmail.com and my IM is aikenite1998. Write anytime whatever. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

there is tons of fun stuff to do in ohio during the winter im sure youll meet people and find alot to do.. how old are you i can clue you in on the hot spots and fun stuff...

I just looked at the jpbs website, and it says my app is for review by general services. I can't find anything that explains what job titles are included under this category. Anyone gotta clue? Thanks for your help.

I am not 100% sure, but I would assume that General Services would be the jobs that are listed under the "Misc" category on Cedar Point's website. Among those positions are things like Office Clerk, Bus Driver, Wardrobe Attendant, Laundry Attendant, Bank Teller, and more.

<-- Hired in General Services :)

Have a quick question. My application says review by live entertainment. What does that mean? Does it mean that they are waiting for my audition tape to arrive?

It means someone in Live E looked at your Application.

You could get a call soon or not.

Good luck though.

Great thanks for the info- i was confused b/c it's different than what WDW does for their college program. Now i have one more question. I am 22, and will be living at CP if i get the job. Are the people over 21 allowed to have alcohol in the housing complex? That is the only thing that tends to be sketchy no matter where i go (disney's policy was completely screwed up) and i want to make sure that i know everything before i make a final decision. Thanks!

If you are over 21, you can have up to 72 oz. (6 pack of 12 oz. bottles or cans) in your dorm/apartment at any given time. Any more than that and they won't let you keep it in. They check packages as you come into housing, so don't think of sneaking any more than that in.

You can also have one drink at certain out-of-the-park restaurants such as Famous Dave's, Bay Harbour Inn, TGI Fridays (Castaway Bay only), etc., but even then there are restrictions. You can not drink before work, you can not drink at any restaurant or bar within the park, you can not show up for work intoxicated or hung over, if you drink at a Cedar Fair owned restaurant outside of the park you must order food with your drink, etc.

It's all spelled out in your online training before you arrive at the park, but those are the basics. The best rule of thumb is don't drink in the park, don't drink if you have to work later in the day, don't show up drunk, and don't provide alcohol to anyone who's under 21. Follow that and you'll be fine.

Hell, I'll go one further. Why even bother to bring alcohol into your room? There's a bar that's about a block away called Louie's that's almost exclusively CP employees. Get out and meet some people, don't sit in your room and drink!

You really don't need to bring much. It'll be better that way.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page linked and that's really all you need.

It's nice to pack light... less to be concerned about. You'll be very busy right away when you get there.

I say pack light, not because you dont need stuff, but because You'll acquire sooo much crap over the summer that You wont have room to pack it all up! Pack light, but bring an extra suitcase.

Last year, I took one huge duffel. I came home with a huge duffel that wouldnt close, 3 giant shopping bags, a full garbage bag, a full hamper, and a TV.

1. My roommate waitressed at Macaroni...she didn't make great tips, but my other friend waitressed at one of the saloons and she made excellent tips.

2.I loved living in commons, except I had a psycho roommate...if your roommate indicates to you that she has had a violent past, you may wanna veer away from her. I was in 15255 and loved it. It says you can have up to four in the room, i had only one other person half the summer and two other people the rest of the time.

3. On my days off I went to the park, or around town, Sandusky is a bit small but there are movie theaters, bowling alley, a mall, etc. But I also went a lot of places, Canada is only 2 1/2 hours away, Cleveland, Pittsburgh. I worked between 40-50 hours a week, but that's because I asked not the work the 70 hour work week. I went out a lot after work. People didn't start arriving to Louie's til after 11:30 and same for X.

4. No, I didn't bring my car up, but the good friends I made there had cars, but yeah, I'm bringing my car up this year if I come back. And they have buses that will take you places (though its a hassle sometimes)

5. If you are coming early may to mid may, bring something warm, it was warm where I was from, but it was cool up there, so a hoodie or two will work.

6. Have fun this summer, its fun, I had a blast, maybe this summer I may come back and have more fun. :)
