Need help figuring out where to stay

liebevision's avatar
I know I have a bit of some time to figure this out... and I might not end up having much choice, but I'm trying to figure out where I want to stay when working at CP and am having the hardest time trying to figure it out. I've pretty much ruled out cedars or the dorms... I'm leaning to either Bayside apartments or common's apartments. The Bayside ones only have 9 people per apartment rather than 15, so thats a big plus, but in the description of the commons apartments it says they have air conditioning. So I'm kinda torn as to which I like better based on that info. While less people per apartment is a plus... having a place with AC to come home too after a long day in the hot sun is also definately a plus. What would you suggest I do, or which would you perfer between the two? espically if you have stayed in both. Any help would be VERY appriciated. Thaks.

Depending on when you come in, odds are Bayside will be full. If you're coming in after mid-April... you can count Bayside out almost definetly.

I lived in Commons Apt's last year. The A/C is only in the living room of the apartment, but a few exhaust fans scattered about the apartment does a good job of pulling it through the entire place.

The 15 other people in the apartment isn't such a negative. Everyone sees it as you are LIVING with 15 others.. when that's just not the case. Your room only has 3-4 people total in it, just like the Dorms. The only difference being, that you only have another 11-12 other people around you in other rooms, versus having another 2000 people around you at the dorms. I found the apartments much quieter than the Dorm buildings ever were. And, trust me... after a day of listening to guests repeat the same question over and over, you start to REALLY value some quiet time.

Each place has its own benefits.

I visited the apartment mentioned in the above post several times. . .among others. . .they can be very nice! With two bathrooms, hopefully one would always be free. . .but the people you live with also declare whether the area stays clean or not.

I lived in Commons dorms 1500 building, and I absolutely loved it, and I will return there --- no questions asked. There was never a wait for the bathrooms, and not including bonus weekends, they were generally clean and nicely kept.

The lockers in the rooms are nice if you are bringing anything (like a laptop!) that you wish to keep locked up. But, the setup was nice -- two sets of bunkbeds, the desk, and the lockers. . .we all had our own little area, and it was always SO cool with the AC in the whole building. . .very nice to come home to.

I <3 commons dorms.

But, in all honesty. . .where you live will NOT make or break your summer. Chances are, you will do very little other than sleep (hehe) in your room. You will have plenty of activity to keep you busy, but as Jeff said, it's VERY nice having your own space to come back to. . .my advice is, just make the best of whereever you find yourself!

well i'm processing in april 19th. So would you suggest trying to get into bayside? Also I have a car so parking is kinda important to me. Would I have someplace close to park at bayside or commons apartment. I've been in the womens housing before (the ones that look like a prison) but I'm clueless when it comes to the mens housing. and knowing what the womens housing is like dosen't do me any good.

As far as I know, lots of times, people in Bayside have to end up parking 'across the street' into the 'overflow' parking, which is pretty much the main parking anyhow. It's still a hassel, and people hate it. . .but I parked there and walked to Commons almost every day, just as everyone else did. There is limited parking near Bayside, and you have to get like a special sticker if I remember correctly from my Merch girl friends. :)

In my opinion, I think that Bayside ends up being a little more secluded from everyone else, I guess. . .I mean, you are in a different area (not far by any means, but still seperate) than the other housing. If that's what you are looking for, then you can have it there. . .I enjoyed the 'campus feel' of the Commons complex. . .several dorm and apartment buildings, the rec center, the store. . .pretty nice!

I'll be there April 19th, too... that seems to be a big processing in day, along with May 2nd... so, chances are, Bayside will probably fill up on the 19th, if not before.

Parking for Bayside is kinda iffy... there's the baseball lot across the street, or the EVC.. either way, you're crossing the street. Commons has the coveted "Princess Parking" and "Create-A-Spot" parking ;) ... but you'll most likely spend a lot of time parking at EVC.

My beef about not going into Bayside, is the distance from Commons store. You have to walk across the street, around Commons, scan through the gate... just to get a bite to eat or what-have-you. Something I'd rather not do.

The City of Sandusky has made the "sand lot" near the baseball fields a "3 Hour Parking Only" lot, and they are towing now..

Does the City of Sandusky still have signs up recommending that the EVC lot road is one-way?

the parking situation at bayside sucks... atleast if you're running late in the morning and have to cross a couple streets to get to your car.

Bayside is good if you like to be somewhat isolated.

The apt a/c isn't all what its cracked up to be. It's in the living room, and while someone said there are vents... you're still gonna need a box fan or 2 because those rooms still get hot and stuffy.

I don't buy the apts. being quieter than the dorms thing. The dorms have cinder block walls, whereas the apts have paper thin walls and a living room full of ppl, and door slamming.

Maybe i'm just a dorm advocate. They're cleaner, your room is more intimate, you have the coldest a/c known to man, you don't have to fight for the bathroom, you don't have to lug your laundry outside to the commons store, and your parking is right there (if you make a spot...i only parked in evc once a week, or when i didn't have to goto work the next day)

Just remember that no matter which place you choose to live, your not going to be there most of the day. You'll be working most of the day and more then likely out with your crew and other friends after work. For me I was in the commons apartments for a month and HATED it. I moved in with some friends in commons dorms, and that was great. No matter where you live, i'm sure you won't spend a whole lot of time there.

If you guys want to try and get into bayside I would suggest getting there early in the morning. Like everyone says if you want it more isolated and a little less noise then ask if they have any more rooms in bayside. Commons apartments are nice to an extent but I would never live there again. The main problem with the apartments happens when people cook something and don't clean up there mess or leave there dishes sitting in the sink for a couple weeks or never change the trash. The dorms I don't know anything about I have never lived in them.

The signs are stating one-way are up and a few local police office friends have said the city is going to be camping out the road this year.

They're out to make a statement this year...

Well, that's no good. . .it's rather rude, I think, although I am sure they have good reason for making it one-way. . .as in, too lazy to make it wide enough to be two-directional.

;)

That will be nice. No more people almost getting hit by vehicles when they run across the road to try to reach their cars. That was ridiculous, especially at night. Just park in the EVC lot...a few extra feet of walking *cannot* hurt you.

Why is everybody against Cedars so much? I lived there last year (since it was the only place with open rooms) and it wasn't nearly as bad as everyone has made it out to be.

You're living right outside the park, you can have easy access to the employee cafeteria, and you don't have to worry about causeway traffic or being able to board the bus on those parking ban days. If you are all about the airconditioning, you can buy your own window unit a pay a little extra for room and board. Every living situation there has its pros and cons.

I'm against cedars so much just because I've not really heard too many people say... "oh yeah, I love cedars" but I have heard people say "cedars *beep* *beep* *beep*" And "it's like going to summer camp" and stuff like that

i lived in cedars my first year, didn't mind it too much. Only problem I ever had (didnt bring a car that year) was being stuck at commons late at night.

Go figure tho, i had 15 points living at cedars... and perfect attendance living at commons. ha.

Well, living off point, you tend to meet more people. But living on point, the chances of being late is not that high. I use to live in Gold Dorms and I had so much there. I was always over in Cedars because they had an open lounge and thats where my friends was. But I living off was better I mean much better. I didn't have to wake up to the Corkscrew or the Matterhorn music. Bayside is the best place to live off point. For one, no security guards harassing you at the gates(checking your bags and stuff like that). Its not as noisy in the halls over in Bayside. And you have a TUB and no more than 6 people in and aparment. Its more for guys though. So you see you have a lot of choices of where to live. If you're a party person, stay off point!!1
Hey ya'll...I am going to be processing in on April 19th....does anyone know the chance of me getting into Bayside?.......that is where I want to live and I just want to know the chances of me getting into it. Thanks!
