Need an answer, FAST

I worked at CP back in 2002 and 2003 as a ride host, on Thunder Canyon in 2002, and Demon Drop in 2003. When I got back in 2003, I landed a full-time position in my job here.

Last month, I lost that job, and I'm having a really hard time finding a new one, rent is due soon, and if I don't get a job FAST, I won't be able to pay my bills next month.

Enter the possibility: Cedar Point

If I were to call up Cedar Point tomorrow morning, could I still land a job as a ride host?

How early could my contract begin?

I have to make up my choice within the next day or two. If I decide to go, I can quickly move out and live with a friend until I leave for CP. If I decide not to, or for whatever reason can't, I can still move in with that friend until I find a job here at home. What it basically comes down to, is right now, I have about $700 in my bank account. I can use it to either:

1. Plan on paying another month's rent on April 1st and hope to god I get a job by the end of this week.
2. Help pay my friend for part of her bills until I get a job.
3. Make the trip to Cedar Point (I live in Portland, Oregon, so its a long trip, but it will only run me $400-500).

I'm posting this late at night, at 4:25 AM Pacific time, in the hopes that by the time I check this thread when I get up tomorrow, enough people will have replied to help me make a decision.

EDIT: I wanted to add that I absolutely LOVED both seasons working at the Point. So while I'd like to do it and all, I'm just not sure if its what I really should be doing. I feel like I'd just be running away from my problem of being unable to find a job. *** Edited 3/20/2006 12:48:18 PM UTC by DJ Wiza***

As long as you left on good terms (didn't quit or get fired) you can get a job again. You would probably start around the first week of May in you applied in rides. But other departments are starting people the first week in April. Call up HR and talk to someone about what you want to do. That is the best answer I can give and is about the best your going to get in a quick response. Just call them.

I'd say you're best bet is to fill out the application and call HR and explain your situation.

Like I just said.

Actually, they like to have people work for as long as possible. If you would have the ability to start there and help clean the place up prior to its opening, you might be able to start there within the next couple weeks, as long as they can get you processed quickly. Helping clean up the midways and rides isn't the most glamourous of jobs, but the pay is the same and it would add to your yearly bonus. Then you will already be there for training on whatever ride you are working on.

Working at CP while you try to find another permanent job would be better than living out on the street, right?

I just put in my application, but I got up too late to call up HR.

Is there a phone number to call up HR directly? Or do I have to go through the General Information line first (419-627-2350)? They used to have a job hotline, but I can't seem to find it. Do they still have it?

HR:
(419) 627-2245 or (800) 668-JOBS (5627) or work@cedarpoint.com

I've reconsidered. I'm going to do option 2 and live with a friend of mine until I find a job, but I'm going to go with whatever is the first job that gets offered. If Cedar Point calls me up first and offers a contract, so be it. I'll go to CP. Otherwise, I'll end up staying home.

Though I *REALLY* want to go to CP. Its just so much fun. Not necessarily the work, but the free time. So many fond memories of just hanging out in the commons area, ride nights, and having mini-marathons on coasters during quiet times of the season. I remember one day I rode Raptor 20 times in a row just because the line was less than 5 minutes long, even for the front row. Gotta love Cedar Point's policy of running all trains almost all the time.

Steve Vorheez (Not sure if that's how its spelled...its been awhile) called me up this morning and left a message on my voicemail. Crap. I didn't expect them to get back to me so quickly!

Right now, I'm not sure if I'm actually going to go or not. That friend of mine doesn't think I should go, simply because I could make so much more per hour here, but at CP, I don't have to pay hundreds of dollars in rent and bills every month. I really think though that she just wants me to stick around for convenience. Her roommate is about to leave, and she doesn't have the money to live in that apartment on her own.

Not my problem, I want to say.

CP is kind of a last resort thing, but I'm not sure if I should tell them that.

Well, I just found out that because I'm not giving my apartment complex 30 days notice before leaving, I have to pay half a month's rent. That's $282.50. Now, there's no way I could afford to pay for a long drive to CP.

So...its option 2 then. Good bye Cedar Point. :.-(
