Quote from a Corkscrew ride op, "And Dragster is down again"

The last 20 minutes that I say was all about Kingda Ka. It showed it rollingback, not making it over the tower. Then they got a new cable and it did. It also showed the 2 month breakdown that it had.

They made it seem like this was a new idea and gave no credit to Cedar Fair for getting the first one. (Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm). Also, that it was the first to clear 400 (or at least, far from any other coaster in the world.) Hello, what ever happened to Dragster.

They did give a lot of credit to Dragster...the show was mainly all about KK, but it did show a lot of clips from around CP.

I think the show in general was cheesy...oh well...

I bet you after Cedar Point builds its "600" foot 4D coaster :-) for 2007, National Geo. would not do a show for it. Lets just hope Six Flags doesn't open a "601" foot 4D coaster the year after and get the credit by more channels.

the show said:
The basic Idea; Take Dragsters blueprints and make them bigger!"

I could not stop laughing when they said that. They pretty much said "Make an exact copy of Dragster.":)

Though, I'll admit that it was pretty cool to see the hydraulic motor work.
All in all, I give it a B+.
Kingda Ka is a respectable coaster, but Dragster will always remain my favorite.

That is right, when Dragster opened it did break 400ft. NGC should have made a show about the Dragster's construction.

I just like the fact about the Superman coaster breaking the 100 mph barrier and showing a Superman Flying coaster!! LOL... like in all coaster show fashion, messing up facts.

"If it looks good, you'll see it; if it sounds good, you'll hear it, if it's marketed right, you'll buy it; but... if it's real, you'll feel it."

If I'm wrong, correct me, but wasnt there a huge debate about Kingda Ka's motor having less power (horsepower) then TTD's? In the show they said "blah blah, the most powerful motor of its kind.."

I did find it interesting that they talked about S:TE setting the speed record while showing clips of S:UF. Other than that, I thought the show was put together pretty well. I have a suspicion that SF called and asked NGC to come film this "historic" process. Being that it is a huge undertaking, I'm not suprised that NGC agreed for its Megastructures series.

On the show they said "we started with the Top Thrill Dragster plain and modified it." Top Thrll is so great six flags had to start out with the TTD disign and modified it. Did CP have any control over intimin using the layout or not.

On the tv it looked really slow. and then on the drop at the top they have breaks.

Yeah new year, and finally got my license, well back in august. Im in need of a trip to the park.

I'm sure Intamin maintains control over its intellectual property for the most part. They can re-use designs, but how many parks would want to do an exact copy of some other park's ride?

Brandon

Anyone know the name of the show so I can look it up on Comcast to see when it may be on again?

Megastructures?

Brandon

It was megastructures. It was really cool. The really did a nice job.

They over dramatized the weather delays. You don't build something like that in the north through winter without factoring in X number of days lost to weather.

I found it funny that KK not getting topped off by Christmas was threatening the rides whole season.

Come on, now. You guys know distributing television programs protected by copyright isn't cool here.

show:
The question now is: How long will the rein of Kingda Ka last?

"I'd be very excited for this to hold both records, tallest and fastest, for a long time, but there's always someone lookin' to break that and we'll look to get it back if we're not able to keep it."

Oh really?
