Nametag alterations?

Quick question for those in the know: It sounds like my nametag will be issued to me. Is there any way to get it to say something other than your name on all the HR paperwork? I go by Jes (Short for Jesse) so much that you could say Jesse over and over and I still wouldn't respond. A nametag like that would do me no good!

Generally, they put the name on your contract. They have had problems in the past with some people using "nicknames". Just because your nametag says "Jesse" doesn't mean your crew still can't call you "Jes".

I don't know about that since I started I always had my nickname on it. My real name is James, but they still put Jake on there instead.

Depends on who is processing you in. I know some are pretty strick yet some are not.

I think they may ask you what you want on your tag if you have a common name. Like Jonathan or Jon, David or Dave. Just request that they just put Jes on your tag and see if they comply.

I think if your nickname is a standard nickname for your formal name, or if it is your middle name they'll put that on the name tag for you. I remember both years they asked me if I went by Vanessa before they printed my name tag.

Last year they asked me if I go by Jeff or Jeffrey... so, I doubt you'd have a problem.

Not only can you pick if you'd like your full or shortened name on the tag, but they also ask if you would rather have a school name on your tag or what town/city you're from.

They only offer that option because they feel bad for people who go to schools like Michigan State ;)

I had no problem getting "James" on my tag and that's not even my first name.

As long as you don't alter it yourself, it shouldn't be a problem. Someone on my crew last year shortened the name on his nametag with a key or a jackknife or something to scratch part of it out. He had to go get a new one ^_~.

They didn't ask me if I wanted Ben on my name tag, and I'm going to specifically ask them to put it on there b/c I *hate* being called Benjamin, especially by strangers. I don't mind it when people call me it that are my friends, but for some reason it's just to formal for me... Like I said I'm going to ask them before they even go over to that darned reader.

What's REALLY fun is when people from your rival schools come and ride your ride and then you joke around with them... What you do is you go up to them in all seriousness and ask if they really go to the school that's on their shirt. If they say yes, then you go, "I'm sorry you're not allowed to ride. If you'd please cross over and go down the exit we'd appreciate it." ... they usually look horrified only for a second or two but when you show them your ID, show the school, and then smile and say that you're just kidding they laugh... I've only tried it with a group that looks like they're having a good time... It's no fun w/ the guests that look all pissy and stuff... I mean I'm sure someone could take offense (sp?) to it, but I don't really think anybody did when I was joking around... it wasn't like I was doing it in malice or was actually making them go down the exit... I was just joking around with them...

Hmm... I wonder if I shouldn't do that now that I'm a blue tag and all... :P

I knew some people who were made to change their name tags to their application name. In 2002, when I needed to get a new nametag. They insisted on changing my name from Chris to Christian on it. I went back a little alter and had it changed back. Since I consider Chris my formal name and no one is going to tell me what I consider to be my formal name.
