My personal coastermania on 6/8/08

Getting to Coastermania was going to be too much of a hassle for me, so I decided to make my first trip to CP on Sunday.

I didn't expect to get in for the early perks ERT as I still had to process my Platinum Pass and the website indicated the Season Pass office wouldn't be open until 9 am. So imagine my surprise when I arrived at 8:30 am to find it opened. I was in and out in 5 minutes so had a good 20 minutes to wait before the morning ERT.

I opted for Maverick first and it was a good decision as the ONLY line of the day was for Maverick. I used the singles line and was satisfied when a couple of youngsters opted to try to beat the system by using the singles line and were thwarted when the entrance op asked for "two riders". They pushed forward only to be told "You are in the single rider line, so you will ride as single riders". Heheheh.

The fellow I rode with was very nice and we enjoyed our ride together on Maverick, so we stuck together and went to MF where the line wasn't even at the bottom of the ramp and then over to TTD where, again, the line was just at the bottom of the ramp. We got two rides on TTD before I went to meet with Kristin at the front gate drop off point.

We had a great Sunday brunch at Matt and Chet's (or is it Chet and Matts?) before heading back to the park at 1 pm, expecting long lines considering it was sunny, although very hot and humid.

We were totally amazed to literally walk on almost every single coaster, including a walk on to the front row of Raptor, Blue Streak and the"money" seat in the back of Wicked Twister. MF and TTD lines were still no further back than the ramps leading to their respective stations. Inf act, the only line we saw between 1 and 3 pm was the WWL building for Maverick was filled, although the outside queues were empty.

It was like our own personal Coastermania, except we didn't do anyr e-riding. By 3 pm, I was fully satisfied and decided to head home.

A most excellent day for my first CP trip of the season and I'mstill amazed at how empty the park was for a beautiful Sunday.

See now I never get my fill of coasters. Even on the best days with ride waits we simply just re-ride things and take it slower.

It might be the cost of gas though that makes me want to get "full satisfaction" out of the day.

I was also there yesterday and found it to be one of the best days I've had since there were no lines. I too would ride and re-ride until close if it were up to me. I have the best days on days like that, despite the heat. Unfortunately, I was with people less enthusiastic than myself, and we left early, with the only repeat rides being once on MF and twice on WT. While we had fun, I would have done everything over again. The only one I missed was TTD, it went down while we were on our way to it and it didn't seem to be back up by the time we left at 4. Did it ever open again yesterday?

The only complaint I have (other than not getting enough rides in to satisfy my winter withdrawl) was food service, again. They need to work on speed and efficiency. I waited longer for an order of garlic fries than I did to ride MF.

Also, kudos to a staff member for enforcing the smoking policy. He was sweeping in in front of the arcade in Frontier Town and noticed a woman smoking and told her she had to go to another area. When she acted confused he took her map and pointed out the smoking policy. Even though there were still people smoking in undesignated spots, it was nice to see that the policy is being enforced. There was also only one incident of line jumping all day as well.

I got a ride on Maverick, two on MF, three on TTD (and I saw it down at 3 pm and figured it was because of wind) and one each of the others, so I certainly felt I got more than planned when I arrived.

There was a time when I would have stayed and rode and re-rode, but I'll be making more trips with the Platinum Pass. As for Maverick, I'll get plenty of rides during Boobuzz.

It is Chet and Matts :)

I've eaten there before, excellent pizza, but I wish they wouldn't serve veal. I haven't touched the stuff in over 20 years, don't even get me started on why! :(

Sounds like you had a great time-thanks for sharing! :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?
