My 1st day as a CP employee began for me Friday Sept 8th. Got my ID badge, wardrobe (Donatos Pizza uniforms look like to me) checked into housing. Let me just say that I had read threads here before about the housing and eeek....
or maybe its just because I have my own house-my own bathroom? No, it is just plain eeek. So eek in fact, despite that my 1 roommate was MIA the entire weekend, I refused to let my boyfriend come back to my room-thats how eeeeek it was/is.
Could the bathroom there smell any moldier??
None the less-you make the best with what you have so I did.
The most exciting thing for me was once dressed reported back to Raptor to begin my day as a ride op for the BESTEST ride in the park!! It took me about an hour to get the hang of all the load/unload positions, dispatch, crowd control and even main control (too cool!!) and after chickening out 6x was finally forced to do the speels-after a couple of studders and stupid words I finally got the hang of that too. (Knew the speel by heart just from riding Raptor, saying it to a ton of people alittle different!)
The worst part has got to be entrance, and I have to apologize to any ride op who I even said that "am I too short to ride?" line too--I am SOOO sorry-I had no clue that 3 out 5 people say that over and over and over again. The parents seem to be the worst guests insisting that their child is 54". The best part? The test ride!
After my 1st day on Raptor I had a whole new appreciation for how hard the ride ops all work. Trust me when I say NO guest has ANY clue how hard they all work until they do what is done.
Did I like working there?
I LOVE my fellow Raptor crew they are all awesome!
I am scheduled for the next 5 weekends--
And I will be there!! CANT wait!
(sore fingers and all, thanks to main control and dispatch!)
So sit up right-hold on tight-and enjoy your flight on Raptor here @ Cedar Point!!

Congrats!! Take care of my ride and crew. I worked there all summer and moved to Florida 2 weeks ago. Yes entrance SUCKS! Every other person says "Am I tall enough?" It is very annoying. Have a great time and have fun!!!!
Oh yeah, if ya tell the people in the front row they have to put their feet up to push the gate down when they leave the station it is really funny!!

That's a great joke! Just like when we would tell people on Iron Dragon that they had to wear their seat belts...

Very good.
Are you thinking of going back next year, or is it too early to tell?

I test rode as a sweep after the cobra roll cracked, and we got stuck at the top of the lift to boot! Greatest CP employee experience I've had (one of, anyway). *Grin*

Jo, thanks a lot for the update! I have been looking forward to hearing about your much-anticipated job for a week or two now. You're making me jealous!!! Keep the updates coming!! :)

If you lost your voice, you had a good day coasting.
CPDave-I would LOVE to do it again next year-no question. The only thing that would cause a prob with me is my truck-I live 248 miles round trip.
I was hoping to move closer but that may not happen now. But yes I would indeed love to do it again next year!! I cant wait to go back this weekend! I had to work at my "real" job tonight and I spent the better part of my night telling everyone how awesome an experience it was for me-they were all estatic when they heard I did get on Raptor (yes everyone at work knows of me and Raptor) One of my co-workers pointed at me and told another co-worker that if CP could walk and talk-I would be it
lol!!
John-see you Thursday as a guest though
Friday Sat and Sun as a co-Raptor worker!!

marcusb - yeah, the cobra roll cracked in August 1998 during a morning test ride. They welded it back together, but with high winds at the same time they didn't have it up and operating until about 7:30pm because they couldn't run it to test. But it all worked out well in the end!

CrystalKat- Yikes! Never heard that one! That sucks :-(
At least they fixed it quickly.. what are the chances of it happening again, and with people actually on the train?
I don't know why it did in the first place, other than there are a lot of stresses on the track at that point. No one was hurt (there was a test rider at the time), it was just a bumpy ride and made a lot of unusual noise. I imagine there have been precautions taken so that it can't happen again!

Well, in fact last year they actually replaced that part of the cobra roll. It cracked again and they juat replaced it instead of just welding it.
Jo- I won't be ther on Thursday I have class but I will be there Friday and working on sat.

Raptor Crew 2000!!!!
The future is riding on us, because you don't need a ticket to ride!!!!
I was wondering if they would have replaced it after that. Thanks for the update! *Grin*
