I live in Toronto, Canada, and it's one of my long-time dreams to be a ride operator (particularly on Millennium Force). I'm very enthusiastic and work well on a team, and love being at Cedar Point...
I know that you have to be a university student to work on a ride, but do you have to be American? (i am going to York University and graduating in 2013 but I have my sight set on operating at C.P. regardless of the pay.)
You don't need to be American, nor a college student. You just need to be at least 18 years old (not sure how many that is in Canadian ;)). Most of the demographics of CP employees are college students, though. Very different at Disney!
2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator
CP has a very extensive program to bring people from other countries in to work for the summer. I'm pretty sure they'll help to set you up with a work visa and everything else that you need.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Last summer we had a guy from Scotland, a girl form Columbia and a girl from Lithuania on my crew. And the year before that we had a Russian on the crew, he was the coolest guy ever. I'm hoping that since you live in Toronto you speak english, because that is a requirement for working at CP, in any department. But just apply for rides and you might get a coaster, you might get a flat, you may get Kiddie Kingdom, it all depends on where they send you.
