Moving

Ok right now I live in Sandusky, about 15 minutes from CP. My dad got a promotion and we are moving to Perrysburg, Ohio which is like 1 hour from CP. Does anyone have any idea or ways for me to convince them to go to CP like a couple times a year or maybe even a season pass?? I don't know how to ask them. I had a season pass for 5 years, but they never got me one this year because he wasn't sure when we were going to move.

Just explane to them that 1 hour is not that far and it would pay for itself and save you money in time.

i live like 3 hrs away and i am getting a season pass.so 1 hr shouldnt be too bad.

But are you old enough to drive?

It's going to be tough going to Cedar Point during this summer since you don't have a license. You pretty much have two choices. Either get your dad to take you or make a few friends that can drive that will go with you.

You'll find out how much you took for granted that you lived just 15 minutes away from the park. The year I got my license I went to Cedar Point about 15 times. That summer I lived just over 4 hours away. Then again, gas was quite a bit cheaper back then too. Back then people complained about gas getting up to $1.20.

It's also a good idea to save money for gas. I got my license in October so I can now drive by myself. Both me and my friend have a season pass with JCC (I also have the parking pass) and we plan on taking 12 or more trips this year so I started putting $20/$30 in my bank account from every check I get. I have $220 right now and I feel I'll need everybit seeing that gas is going to go back up to $3!! >:(

And another thing, if you do take a friend or friends, make sure they help pay for gas. :)

Yeah I get my temps in May, liscense in November so 2007 will be my first summer. That's a long way. :(

We live about 50 minutes away, and it's not so far that I'm not able to make around 25 trips a year, so I don't see why 10 more minutes in the car would be that big of a difference. Remember it only takes around three trips for it to pay for itself.

If your parents think an hour drive is a lot, just tell them about some of the people on here that have season passes and live well over an hour away. An hour is not bad at all. I would be more then willing to bet that about 30% of Season Pass sales are from people/families that have a 45 to 60 minute drive. I had a two and a half hour drive when I had a season pass, and I still averaged two to three trips a month. If you were able to get a job this summer, maybe you could tell them you would help pay for gas. Or make a deal with them, do odd jobs around the house (mowing grass, cleaning windows, doing the dishes) and in return, they take you to Cedar Point.

Just tell your parents you have some kind of rare disease in which the only cure is a season pass and 3 or more trips to Cedar Point.:)

Guess what, I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!

Classic....:)

Gotta love the cowbell.

I live in Toledo (Just mere minutes from Perrysburg) and go at least 20 some times a year (not counting the last six weekends when I'm working there). It's not that bad of a drive, it's just convincing someone who may not be as big of a fan of the park that it's not a bad drive. The passes would pay for themselves, but gas is another thing. Save now and offer to help pay for it if you want to increase your chances of going.

I created a beautiful thing last year. It's my Cedar Point jar. Its a standard jar that is sealed until it is full. I put loose change in it, I start it around Christmas each year. I start with only putting pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters in. Once February hit I started putting loonies in. I usually keep my toonies for coffee in the morning. I couted it a while back and there's well over $100 in it. When my first trip comes I will empty out the jar and roll the change.

I got my licence last summer and I'm still not allowed to drive. My parents aren't comfortable with me going across the border and traveling 2 hours to Ohio. Quite frankly I'm not comfortable driving in the States. Hopefully I will be able to this summer. Other than that I rely on bus trips from school and ones advertised in the newspaper.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

So $100 is like what USD? $2.75?

The Toonie is a cool coin though. Too bad you Canadians are taxed up the wazoo! Hopefully your new PM will make our visits up north a little cheaper. Has he taken office yet?

EDIT:

Back on topic, I live over an hour from the park, and I have gone as many as 20 times in a season. The issue is driving, so you may have to wait another season before you can go as many times as you like.

An hour away isn't bad at all. Its about 58 miles from Perrysburg to Sandusky, so you're looking at around 120 miles round-trip. If your parents car gets decent gas mileage (i.e. not a V8 pickup), that round trip would set you back a max of $20 in gas, assuming gas stays at or below $2.50/gallon. Try convincing your parents that you're willing to earn the $20 for each trip, either by mowing grass around your new neighborhood, doing chores for them or by getting a part time job after school.

The tricky part of this whole scheme is figuring out how to get them to agree to take you to the park. Asking them to drive two round trips might be a little much, especially considering your gas costs would go up to $35 or so and that takes over 4 hours out of their day. Maybe a friend in your new neighborhood would be interested in going as well, and your parents could take you, with his parents bringing you home.

However, if you show some true initiative and a sincere willingness to help out in every way you can, that will go a long way toward showing them that you are indeed serious and willing to earn the opportunity to go to CP.

Good luck, and we hope to see you this summer! :)

Brandon

We live in Michigan, about a 2 hour drive from the Point, and made just under 20 trips last season.

Having the season pass, and even a parking pass saves money in the long run so we only end up paying for gas, and possibly a hotel room if we decide to stay.

If you can talk them into it, as someone else mentioned, I'd agree to earn the gas money for the trip, anything to be able to go at least a few times.

If all else fails, maybe another PB'er would be nice enough to pick you up on one of their trips down.

Good luck with talking to them.
