Why where the permits not requested before they got this far in construction. It not to likely the city would turn they down because CP is the hand that feeds it. But what if they got turned down this is a little late in the game to box it up and take it back if they coud not finsh the construct of # 16

WT has those signs in the queque that warn any pregnant women not to ride it. Is it because of the ride physics itself (duh?) or is it because of the large amounts of electromagnetic radiation we WT riders are exposed to while underneath the LIM's? I've only ridden WT once (this past summer) and I remember the heat coming off of the motors from above. Maybe I'll start growing a second member later on in life from that ride!!
or maybe you just have a vivid imagination. i have been on it at least 50 times and i cant remember once it being and hotter under the motors than it was anywhere else in the park
Has it been discussed what the bottom line for the investment will be? Oh, and btw, "Busch" Gardens is a great park, just not as good as Cedar Point. And all this meaness is "stupied."

Who is this "Drew" person???
If a individual standing in line for WT could be hurt by the lims electromagnetic radiation, what effect does it have on the ride hosts that are there all day long? I rode WT 50 times over the summer and I don't ever recall feeling heat coming off of the LIMs, did anybody else think heat came off of the LIMs, maybe i'm wrong!

If you look closely you'll see a whole bunch of .5->1.5 HP electric motors driving sizeable centrifugal fans to cool those motors. (~1 for each magnet) You can actually feel them right before you board. Also...if you look closely you'll see the air above the magnets wave (like above a candle). So, yes, they get very very hot. The pregnancy thing is probally just due to the ride itself, if I'm not correct, warnings like this are on all the larger thrill rides (also includes people with heart problems and overweight). Although, there may be some truth to the magnetic field exposure. This is the same reason people complain living near power lines and CP _may_ be trying to avoid lawsuits by some nut who may claim her baby has birth defects or something else unlikely. People have sued for stranger things...I imagine you'd have to stand under this thing for a LONG time before something bad happens.

Xcelerator's hydraulic building has 6FT THICK WALLS! Do you realize how thick that is and how expensive that would be?

All the coasters and other thrill rides don't allow pregnant women. I doubt it would truly cause any harm to the baby, but CP probably isn't a big fan of law suits, so they just don't allow it. Also, most restraints wouldn't fit someone who is pregnant.

The walls on Xcelerator's hydraulic building are not 6 ft. thick. Take a look at some construction photos and you'll agree. The only place where the concrete is that thick is underneath the main drum system, and that's to provide enough of an anchor. You need some serious weight when that puppy fires up and produces 9000 horsepower.

I noticed the heat the first time I rode when I was getting off the ride. I haven't felt it since, but that was the only time I rode in the middle and I would imagine it would be hotter there because it's coming from both directions. I'm also 6'3" and am a bit closer to the LIM's.

What would cause a lim to generate an "extreme" amount of heat?

Can Food Drive?

The LIMs are just a bunch of wires wrapped around in circles then they pump a lot of electricity through the wires thus causing a magnetic wave pushing the train. These wires are really small so that it creates a larger force. Running electric through small wires (like a light bulb) creates heat after so long.
Every electrical current generates heat. Mostly it's created from resistance within the wire. Any time you run a few thousand volts through a wire, you're sure to build up plenty of heat. The filament in a light bulb lights up because of heat..

I wouldn't go so far as to say the wires in the LIM's are small. You can only run a certain amount of current through a small wire before it pretty much melts, depeding on the material used.

Right before I got on S:UE at SFWoA (I was in the station) they had to shut it down because the LIM's overheated. They turned on fans, and then let us on. When we got on it was VERY HOT under LIM's from where heat had been blown off. LIM's are electromagnets. An electromagnet is iron wrapped in copper wire. Then they run hundreds or thousands of volts of electricity through the copper wire. Sound like it could generate some heat to you?

Montu, it was an Amusement Today article that said they were six feet thick. Of course this could have been a typo. These walls have to be thick, however, because if a leak happens, people would get hurt, and things would get damaged. If a leak happened in a standard bulldozer hydraulic system, it would drive a hold in a human.

I'm pretty sure it was a typo. Here you can see that the walls are definately not 6 feet thick. As Montu said, the only place where it could be six feet think is right in the center where the main drum system is.

I don't think that the radiation from the electromagnets will be of health concern to anyone. I work on MRI scanners everyday at 1.5 Tesla with no ill effects as the magnetic field is not an ionizing radiation. I know this topic has gone a few different ways, but read a bit back of the health concerns. Actually, now that I think of it, what did this have to do with the new coaster anyway, perhaps this should be in the WT forum.
