As someone squarely in the Venn overlap of "has Wife & kids who like spinny rides" and "cannot tolerate spinny rides", I can certainly attest to the load/unload time being less than ideal.
But still, this is one of those family rides that the park could use more of, IMO, so it's a shame to see it go if that is the case. Best case scenario is that they're merely relocating it to either the Boardwalk or the area where Matterhorn and Scrambler used to be.

Always sad to see a ride go. Agree with all the sentiments above...kids are 14 and 18 now so it's been awhile, but you can't replicate the feeling of being able to ride something with your kid that you rode as a kid. These kind of ride removals just hit different. Loved the way this helped light up the midway.
My guess is that they found something in the inspection process that would have required a costly repair. My other guess is that this ride isn't that common anymore making said replacement time and $$ consuming.
Also sad that this is the approach taken by the park, if my guesses are correct, but we're a Six Flags park now, and nothing about the leadership of this organization makes me hopeful. Maybe they'll put the parts inside the also defunct Chickie and Pete's to give that space something to do.

As much as I would like to blame this on Six Flags mis-management parts are not easy to get for this ride anymore. At Kings Island Monster was closed all of the season last year and the rumor is they were waiting on parts. Monster was still at Cedar Point during Winter Chill Out so I am wondering if they found something during an inspection as mentioned above. Cedar Point needs a flat spinny ride update, I can't think of anything at the park that is under 25 years old and there are some new rides that can fill this gap. This doesn't seem like a planned ride removal but more of a - We know this isn't opening again so lets just remove it pror to the season so there aren't any doubts.
This is distressing me, not because of the ride loss itself (it's not a post-Zimmerman "Zimm job" considering the parts and the KI equivalent's situation), but because of these facts:
I'm not even considering what could potentially go on Millennium Island. But CP is long overdue for new flats. Heck, I found myself going upside down on a flat ride last New Year's Eve at Kings Island!
I would love to see even one new flat ride show up at CP at this point, even if it's later in the season. But I doubt that's in the budget. At this point, I might be willing to see the SRF replacement be postponed a year, if necessary, to make room for these flats.
Unofficial Rule of Ride Removals
You must announce removals in advance so people can get their last rides in, unless a major incident or malfunction prevents the ride from doing so.
This applies to roller coasters, flat rides, water rides, and so on.
Exceptions to this rule include upcharge attractions, waterpark rides, and rides that are effectively redundant within a park.
Real Estate at Cedar Point with something removed and nothing replaced:
Turnip: A building with zero purpose
Chickie and Pete's: A building with zero purpose
Melt: A building with zero purpose
Forbidden Frontier: An entire island with zero purpose
Highground Playground: Mentioned because it could have been kept and saved as a place for an accessible kid/family things to do with shade, relaxation, the best restrooms in the park and a hidden gem in the food department. Just tossed in the trash.
Matt Ouimet: Hard to replace
Snake River Falls: Lots of speculation, really just a lagoon in need of maintenance
Snake River Expedition: Cool boats just wrapped in shrink-wrap for years, now hanging out in aforementioned lagoon. River just there.
Monster: Soon to be another cheaply made walk-up "bar" made from Home Depot leftovers. Or just grass. Or maybe a shady place just for the prestigious!

Kevin, your post got me thinking, and in fact there's even more things just sitting around.
Mac Shack / Pinks: A building with zero purpose
Food stands by Gatekeeper (outside of the coke freestyle stand): A building with zero purpose
Old Matterhorn / Scrambler area: There's a small stage there, so not quite zero purpose, but not far from it.
Heck even the snoopy bounce is just some benches today.
Also, I don't know, but is Point Pavilion even used anymore? I never see any groups there anymore, it seems like lakeside pavilion gets all the usage these days. Not a ton of space, but you know it could be a dark ride or something.
