Monday 8/27/12: Rainy, Fun, and Lots of Rides!

I start school tomorrow the 29th and my parents and I decided to go to CP for one last fun adventure. Being the only day we were able to go we had hoped for good weather. But of course, the forecast showed rain for a good part of the day. Not being able to go another day we thought at least the rain and decision to go on this particular day (I know a lot of schools had started) would hold off many people from going.

So yesterday morning we left for the point in rain but had high hopes of what was to come. We arrived right around opening at 11 but decided just to sit and wait in the car for a little bit to see if the rain would let up. Earlier it would switch from pouring to just a little sprinkle. Well while we were in the car it started pouring really hard and it still was even after about 15 minutes. My dad wanted to wait it out a little more but my mom and I were ready to go in the park. So the two of us put on rain ponchos and made our way through the downpour. My feet became soaked from having to walk through all the puddles but I didn’t really care. A rainy day at Cedar Point is better than one back homeIMO!

There were no lines at all to get in the park and once there we wanted to just walk around a little bit. Neither of us had ever been there in constant rain and we couldn’t believe how poorly the water drained. We walked over by DT to see what was left of it, and it was pretty weird seeing the remnants in person and not just in pictures. Then since it was running and we’d be sort of be protected from the rain, we rode the train full circuit. Then we met up with my dad who finally came in and we decided to go on Iron Dragon since it was one of the few running rides. It had about a 15/20 minute wait. It was lightly raining at this time so it made the ride have a completely different experience. After this my mom and I went on the Turbo Drop side of Power Tower which was fun. Only one tower for both the drop and launch were opened. We waited about 5/10 minutes. Now it was just misty and not really raining so we went on Wicked Twister which basically had no wait.

We walked around some more and the rain would come intermittently, some times harder than others. Eventually we made it into Frontier Town and the rain had finally started to stop and would just lightly sprinkle every once in awhile. Maverick started running empty trains so we got in line and waited, hoping it would open. After about a half hour or 45 minutes each train would have one employee sitting in the front seat. After this they went back to running a few more empty trains. And all our waiting paid off, since they finally opened it! Everyone waiting in the makeshift line started sheering and running through the entrance into the actual line. Once into the real line, we only started waiting at the bottom of the steps leading into the station. On the ride it just started to sprinkle but about halfway through it started pouring again. It was not fun at all getting pelted with rain in your face. But now I can say I got pelted with rain on a coaster.

This was followed by lunch and we just sat down for a while to wait for the rain to end completely. I checked the radar on my phone and saw the rain was almost over. It got brighter and it eventually stopped raining! By now it was around 3. So we decided to go on MF and wanted to get there before it got too mobbed with people flocking to all the big rides. When we got there it was already opened and had about a half hour wait, which was pretty good. While in line I saw someone wearing a CoasterMania shirt too. At this time we rode it 3 times in arow and each time the line was a little shorter. But while waiting in line the second time we saw a train get stuck on the lift. About 15 minutes later they were overthe hill and later we heard that someone had unbuckled their seatbelt.

Following this marathon we went to go see if Dragster was opened yet as it had been closed all day earlier. It was open so we got in line and waited for about a half hour. We rode this 3 times in row top, just like MF. And once again each time was shorter and shorter, and the last time only had a 15 minute wait.

It was now 8:45 so my mom and I chose to go on MF one more time. The line was the shortest I have ever seen on this coaster: It ended just past the unload station. It was a 10/15 minute wait. What a great way to end the day. I still can’t believe I got 3 rides on Dragster and 5 on Millennium within a few hours and without Fast Lane.

On the way out we stopped at Tofts to get an ice cream and then headed home from the greatest amusement in the world. Time to look forward to Halloweekends!

From the webcam, it looked like a nice evening to be there. The cars in the parking lot did not even back up beyond the webcam viewing area, so the lines must have been nice.

We were planning on going the 27th and 28th, stayed away from the park till 3:30pm from the rain. Killed some time by watching 50mph Norfolk Southern freights fly by the Amtrak station. We then bought star light tickets and was very happy to see short lines(went in just past 4pm), Blue Streak, Raptor, Maxair, Iron Dragon, Millennium Force, Gemini (one side running), Magnum XL 200, Top Thrill Dragster were either a short wait or walk-on's. Top Thrill Dragster had it's line on the ramp.

^I probably saw you at some point since I was marathoning MF and Dragster in the evening and before close. I wouldn't have realized that since I don't know who you are, but it's still funny to think about. And the Dragster line was just amazing!
