Modifications Made

If CP were to be sued as a result of a guest injury on MF as previously described, an experienced attorney would have a good case to sue CP. Why? The issue is "forseeability". Is it forseeable (from CP's POV) that someone could be injured by striking that support? Absolutely. The argument can certainly be made that the guest did not follow the rules, however when you can observe riders holding up their hands on any coaster in America, it is certainly forseeable that one could be injured by that support on MF. If the plaintiff (suing party) in a lawsuit can show forseeability on the part of CP that an injury could happen, CP would be responsible. That is why modifications are being made. Now that CP knows about it, they are taking their own best interest into account by solving the problem, and avoiding a potential lawsuit.

The other thing is if people are raising thier hands and breaking the park rules stated on the ticket, they should be ejected from the park... ANY amusement park is not about to do that.

Well, excuse me for asking, but "ejected" why?!?!?People riding with their hands up has always been a tradition of any ride! not just a CP! Its great! so why should people be thrown out for putting their hands up on magnum mantis powertower(not that it is possible to do it there) but you should really reconsider that comment. ;) trust me, the only reason they have it is for safety. no matter how many times they say it, people will always do it.

the past, but this is an all time low..."
I think what Chuckers was trying to say is that if you want to get technical, putting your hands up is breaking the rules, and one should be ejected for breaking the rules. However no park would throw a person out of the park for simply putting their hands in the air.

Ucsigep,

Thanks, that was what I meant. I just typed it in a dreadful misuse of the english language and syntax. (Never type messages while medicated!)

If I recall correctly, SFAmerica's Superman Ride of Steel has a maximum height limit due to some supports being to close to the train. This is also an Intamin/Werner Stengel design.

I noticed the "indentation" on that support beam tonight while on the Force, but it's not noticible from the ground from my own perspective. Very well done to keep it's integrity.

You can see it from the ground if you know where to look. The top of the beam has a trapezoidal cut-out in it, and a thick plate has been welded to the bottom of the beam.

I sure noticed it. Both my friend (Alex Parks) and I leaned at as far as we could on that first turn and just barely missed touching it. Previously, we had been afraid of hitting the now-modified support. And if it hadn't been modified today, we probably would have hit it with the amount of reach we got.

I noticed it too. I'm think taller riders might still be able to tap with their fingertips though, because we did come close to it when leaning, and I'm about 5'9".

When I was looking at it from the ground it looked like they had cut into the upper part of the original support, then bolted/welded on a cast with a small indentation.

I'm sure stuff like this won't gain Intamin a lot of favor with parks considering them for future business. MF is one heck of a coaster, but I don't see how you miss something like this on a $25 million attraction. It sure would bother me if I had to "butcher" my $25 million toy after one year of perhaps just getting lucky that nothing happened!

It happens..

Good point Red Garter. It just seems hard for me to believe that they overlooked something like that having to do with safety. Oh well, I'm sure 98% of people will never notice the modifications.

Do you know what's funny about that statement of Red Garter's?

Each manufacturer ride he mentioned has yet to have another coaster made by the same maker...:) Hopefully that's just a coincidence. I love Intamin.
Ahh.. but Cedar Fair, who has the final say so, HAS purchased rides from B&M and Arrow since then...

Wait a minute Rob, what do you mean by "No ride is perfect... 3rd hill of Magnum comes to mind" Please elaborate.

Are you referring to the original drop of the third hill in '89? What do you mean by that.
