Millennium Force vs. Dragster

Do you think the new coaster will be as big publicly as Millennium Force debut? Speaking as if it were going to be 400 feet.

I think it is way to early for a 400 foot coaster, although I seriously wouldn't mind having one right now. I think it is too much too fast. If the coaster does open next year it would have only been 3 years since the first 300 foot coaster.

How could you build a 400 foot ride and not market it?

That is not what I mean. I mean, when Millennium Force was comming out it was something new. I mean, it was over 10 years since the World's First 200 foot roller coaster. I am not sure if you are getting what I am saying.

I know what you mean, and I was thinking the same thing. When Millie first debuted, people were like "Holy Crap! 300 feet is huge!!!"

Who knows if it will. I thought for sure that they would do the same with Wicked Twister that they did with Mantis, Raptor and Milliennium Force. Unfortunately, around August, the Wicked Twister commercials stopped and Millennium Force's went up. I guess it all depends on whether Dragster's height and speed can over power Millennium Force's lasting popularity.

Lets not assume the name yet. # 16 is a better referance for the time being
I don't think having a 400 foot coaster now is too soon. It took over 10 years to go from 200 ft to 300 ft b/c the technology wasn't there yet. Remember, among other things, Millie was the 1st coaster to use a cable-lift, which can take you up 300 ft faster than Magnum's chain-lift can take you up 200 ft. And now we have hydraulic-launch systems that can launch a train to over 100 mph, enough to clear a 400 ft. tophat! New technology has made it much easier to reach the next "milestone" - the only limit truly is if people are willing to ride it and how much money an amusement park can pay for its construction.
as they say "The skys the limit"
Point of clairification, Millie was *not* the 1st coaster to use a cable lift system. Vekoma Boomerangs have been doing it since at least the early/mid-eighties. There may have been coasters even before that...
2Hostyl , What Parks is that roller coaster in?
2Hostyl you are sorely mistaken, Vekoma Boomerangs use chain lifts just going backwards, If you have ever ridden a boomerang ride before you would know that it makes a chain lift noise, Sorry!
Eric609, you must be joking. Bookmerangs do not use a chainlift. The sound you are hearing is the anti-rollback devices. I don't know if the boomerangs use the same system as MF, but at least externally they look sort of similiar.

(and I think 2Hostyl has probably ridden a few)

Boomerangs and Invertigos do use cable lifts, Millennium Force uses an elevator thats connected to a cable, not a "cable lift."

I think you're both right about the vekoma boomerangs.

The train is pulled up the first hill by a cable lift. You can see the cable quite clearly. But the 2nd hill is a regular chain lift. That chain lift pulls it up, and then drops away from the train.

TheVekoma Boomerangs do use a cable lift system... but it's not anything like MF's. There is a small vehicle that attaches to the back of the coaster, and is slowly pulled up the steep hill. When it reaches the climax the jaws on the vehicle release the train. On the opposite end of the boomerang there is a chain lift.

All this talk about lift systems is sooooo related to the topic of Millennium Force vs. Dragster. Geez, you guys can sure get off track and into these little rants very easily.
who cares whether its cable, has unibody or rigid frame???if you want to be an engineer go to ohio state or purdue...both millie and maggie are fun and fast and scary!!!! aint that the point?
#16 might beat millie but height and speed....but millie will still be on top.
