Millennium Force: The final shot?

Thanks for the link CP_bound. That coaster design looks sweet. But I have a feeling that Cedar Point Might let them get away with a "One of the Best" coasters but I'm not sure if CP will let them have the tallest full circuit. I guess we'll have to wait and see if CP will change their two year thrill ride schedule and get new thrill rides in back to back years. WT in 2002 and possibly ? in 2003.

No one ever said they had to be in a 2 year plan everytime they got something big, although it has looked that way. :) They plan 2 years in advance everything they construct. I wouldn't be surprised if we something in 2003...I also wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't see anything.

As for the record, I'm sure they'll say something like, "Tallest on 5 continents!" instead of the the 6 continents they boasted last year.

I was also thinking that could build a huge TA2K if they wanted the record back, but S has to perfect their extreme launching speeds before that can happen. They had some problems with their 107mph. coaster over in Japan that delayed its opening.

If I remember right I read at Screamscape I believe that Heide had a restriction placed on them by the German equivalent of the FFA at 100 meters (328.08 feet) and so the coaster was going to be 99 meters (324.8 feet) tall.  Also, that it still hadn't got passed the locals.  So if this is true then Cedar Point can still be the home of the first 400 foot+ full-circuit coaster. Hey, maybe they even have a bug in Intiman's ear about it.  We can only hope because I certainly don't believe Millennium is the final shot...

My opinion is, if Cedar Point needed it, they could use the parking lot and revamp the park. I hear they own a lot of land around Sandusky, although I have no proof of this.

Secondly, a coaster over the lake sounds great, but like the other posters, too unpredictable. If teh coaster spent any considerable amount of time over the lake that could be bad if there were a breakdown or accident. You'd have to access it by boat. I know other parks have coasters over the water, but they are usually small lakes/ponds, not some huge body of water.

Just a thought though.

I could see a coaster that goes over the lake, just supported by land. What I mean by this is taht the track would be over water, but the support structure would jut inward and have footers on land. A B&M flyer that did that would be sweet. :)
I was watching a show about building a brand new bridge out in Tampa Bay I think, and I kinda see how one aspect of it could be applied to building a coaster over water... Around the supports, there could be safety "bumpers" to keep things like ice, small craft, etc. That could solve one of the problems...

In case the train rolls back or stalls, although somewhat un-practical, a walkway could be built next to the track for the length over water. Yes, unpractical, but feasible.

My two cents.
