Millennium Force: The final shot?

Yeah, I'll bet money that they build something around the area of the lagoons in the early future.

Browntggrr, coasters aren't detrimental to people's health. As long as the rides are engineering properly, and there is enough room for th pullouts and turns, they are as safe as a ride on Blue Streak. Hell, the people smoking in line know that cigarettes will kill, but do they stop smoking them? What's to stop people from riding coasters if they had a chance of some kind of health problem (theoretically)?

With the expansion of hotel rooms, a parking garage is in consideration next to Corkscrew.  This will save a lot of space.

I believe that the coasters will only get bigger and faster until there comes a time when they figure out that the speeds and forces that our bodies are takeing from these "-est", rides are actually hurting us.  There are some stories already circulating around about this problem.  I just hope that technology keeps it safe and fun for us.  It would be a shame to see that the Millenium is one of the last of a breed of coasters as we know it (getting bigger and faster).

Technology keeps the Space Shuttle 99% safe... (yes, that's an actual number. NASA says your chances of being killed on the space shuttle is 1 in 100) And that's technology of the 1970s... What's to say coasters won't stay safe?

This is just my opinion, but I believe the "tallest, fastest" days are over. It's become boring, and it doesn't mean the ride will be better. I think parks are now beginning to build unique attractions that our exclusive to "their" park(Tomb Raider, Xcelerator, SOB, X ect). I can't predict what CP will do over the next decade or so, but I'd bet my bottom dollar that it WON'T be record breaking rollercoasters every year. But rather, things you will ONLY find at Cedar Point.  This time, it's PKI that's leading the rest of the industry.

You can already see the trend building:

1)SFMM- could have built the world's tallest, fastest floorless, instead gambling big with X. Arrow nailed it, and the results look big for the park.

2)PKI-could have gone with a taller, faster Intamin Giga and yelled "nah nah, ours is bigger"! Yawn. Instead I believe they hit the jackpot with Tomb Raider. A ride that has even the most hardcore coaster fan interested.

3)B&M-Instead of going bigger, we're seeing a couple midsized B&Ms this year, a return to their MUCH more intense designs IMO.

Even Cedar Point is putting a foot in the mouths of those who said they would NEVER build a shuttle coaster. Call it the economy or whatever you want, I like this trend. :)

But was it all real fun?"

PKI's getting a giant Top Spin. Oooh. Aaah. I like Top Spins, mind you, but it ain't no coaster, so to speak.

Speed has very little to do w/ forces on the rider, especially given good aerodynamics. It's pullout rate that matters.

F=g+V^2/r (if going downward and pulling up)
(Force=gravity+ + velocity * velocity / radius of pullout)

If r is large enough, v can be very high.

Hymmmm, that $25-plus million dollar Top Spin has much more of a "WOW" factor for me, than an Impulse. Not to mention PKI's yearly attendance which speaks for itself, giga or no giga.  ;)

Bill, the top-spin sestion of the ride isn't the only thing to Tomb Raider. The aspect of the immersiveness of the ride is why there is such a big deal around the ride. I've heard that from the time you enter the first building to the time you leave, you'll be in there for 20 minutes! That type of time on an amusement ride is unheard of. And the amount of theming used in this ride will be incredible. I want to get back there this summer to experience it.

A twenty minute ride! How? Unless I am very much mistaken, that means the capacity would be very, very low. But I suppose they could increase capacity if many people are on the ride at the same time. Just a thought...
-----------------
Well, the top-spins hold about 75 people at a time, but that's only one part of the ride. I assume they will having people walk/ride through in little bursts like that.

Spiderman @ Islands of Adventure is probably the premier simulator ride on the planet. It's themed to a 'T' and the attention to detail is incredible.

It's long and fun.

The adult coasters are still better.

Actually building over the lake is out of the question. Cedar Point only owns something like ten or twenty feet from the shore out. The parking lot is huge and a garage or two could be built to free up that space. Something as big as 750 is safely possible but insurance would be too high. I think the biggest any park in the world will get in the next 10 is 350. Still CP doesn't have to have the "-est" to have the first, Wicked Twister for example.

Wicked Twister is the "First-est,Best-est, and Only-est" Double Twisting Coaster. So there, they're still getting -est coasters ;)

It's the fastest and most twisted impulse at 450 degrees and 2 twisted spikes.

SuperSaiyaJinXN, Heide park in Germany, the same park that got a 196-some foot Intamin woodie last year is getting a 412ft. monster in 2003. It is going to be an Intamin creation, and the layout looks like MF on steriods...definitely a coaster to dethrone MF on number 1 if there were any.

Where can one find the layout for that 412 foot coaster?  Sounds interesting.  I knew they were planning to build a 400 footer.  I never knew one could see the layout anywhere :)

Well, since this will be a 400+ coaster, then IF Cedar Point were to plan on building the tallest, it would probably according past events, have to be planned out at least a year or so before construction, set aside enough money to produce a ride of this magnitude, have a height range goal to be about 430-450ft , probably costing in the range of $30-50 million dollars, and taking up a large portion of the peninsula

This is just a thought...  what if the coaster is like "X" in CA and the seats tilt back and the lift is straight up like an elevator.
Well, Cedar Point could build a 400+ Foot thrust air.... That would not take up to much space for the primary hill and could be put almost anywhere.

That would kick butt. It would take a heck of a lot of air to get that baby going.
