Melt bar and grill open

Went to the Melt yesterday and had a fantastic experience. Food was great, beer was delicious and the park was dead. :)

I loved being able to easily walk around in there and check out all of the photos. It's almost as good as going to the Town Hall Museum.

The big (huge) photos in there came from the old Breakers Express elevator lobbys. I stayed there last week and noticed how bare the walls are now, then found the previous decor in Melt. Sigh of relief.
I especially loved the artist's proof gallery of the old character ride signs, I stared at them for a really long time.

I'm shocked the prices aren't jacked up. Maybe they're figuring on the liquor bringing in more money.

How are the alcoholic drinks? Pricey?

Drink prices are on par with others at TGFI, etc. The Melt decor including the mural behind the hostess stand being a standout. The room decor was awesome with the vintage ride signs being a plus. We only had a 20 minute wait, staff was attentive, and Melt made the most use out of the former Joe Cool's Cafe area. The restaurant appeared much larger on the inside. On the downside, no Parmageddon, no Godfather :(

To be a member of the tattoo family you get a version of their logo tattooed somewhere on your body.. go to any Melt location and they document the tattoo and sign you up. You are given a number and a pass with your number on it. You must present the pass to get your discount.. I am #639 and got my tattoo over 2 years ago

Was there last week for a beverage or two with some board members and it was on par for the location, price wise. Staff was friendly (albeit seemingly overseated) and efficient. Food has proven to be the standout in the park. Cheese-on-a-stick or corndog basket or... anything from Melt... kinda a no-brainer for essentially the same money.

Today we attempted to go there today. There was a 45 minute wait for 2 people and only half the tables or less had people sitting in them. When we asked why the guy taking names said it was because the kitchen was backed up. Ridiculous. Then the guy behind us was saying in a harsher tone that he had a restaurant background and 3 cooks should be able to handle this. And then he was saying that the owner of Melt would be pissed to see this and losing business because of it. and that the foods department manager wouldn't like it either. I do agree that this is ridiculous but I think he could've toned it down. It's looking like a staffing problem. Hopefully they can get it worked out. We ended up leaving.

The Melt in Mentor near me often has half the tables empty when I'm there because they don't have enough servers staffed on the days I usually go. I would imagine something similar is happening at Cedar Point, especially during the fall season when the whole park is short staffed.

So it's basically just the same as Joe Cool Cafe, just with a different menu and atmosphere/decorating?

It is nothing at all like Joe Cool Cafe. It is an in park location of a local restaurant chain. Other than location, nothing else is the same from the Joe Cool Cafe days.

^ With the exception of the typical cedar point food services total incompetence.

^^ I was referring to the extreme long wait for service when the place was less than half full - as described by Thabto and CP Mavwerick just before me. Maybe I should have quoted their posts to be more clear.

I've been there twice to drink at the bar and once to eat. I'll echo the same experience, as others have pretty much the whole season. There's a severe shortage of staff there and that seems to be the problem.

I had a friend with me from St Louis and I decided to show him Melt. He's a vegetarian and I knew he'd get something there he'd like. We walked into a half empty room and a 45 minute wait. I said to the girl at the desk, "What, are you short or something?" And she gave it a beat and said "Something like that". Alrighty then.

We stood there for a minute and I must've looked forlorn because a waitress came by and asked what was wrong. I told her and she kindly said "Come with me, I'll take you". On the way to a table I asked her the same question and she said "Yes. Plus I don't know what's wrong with half of em here that won't pick up tables". So there's your answer.

We waited a while for our food. The waitress was aware of that but was sweet and kept our drinks coming so she didn't take the blame. My friend said he really enjoyed his cheese/shroom sandwich but I made the mistake of trying the fish sandwich and it was B.A.D. bad. I predict the grease wasn't hot enough because the outside was greasy crunchy and the inside was raw batter on cold raw-ish fish. Ugh. I let it go and decided my future trips to Melt would be in the Short North only. Unless I want an over priced craft beer, which I've been known to want.

All this makes me wonder about the future of this partnership. I know that some of the folks that work there are actual Melt guys and gals and the rest are CP seasonals whose work ethic may or may not be lacking. But if the experience continues the way I've seen and heard I would be surprised if Melt didn't yank themselves out of there eventually. It looks bad on them as a whole.

My best chain restaurant experience at Cedar Point was Famous Dave's, which I visited this year for the first time ever, anywhere. The place was cute, (a far cry from the old Marina Steak House I remember well), the staff was nice, and for chain BBQ the food was pretty good. It may turn into my go-to for a "decent" meal whenever I'm there, which in turn may make me re-think my meal plan.

I 100% second the notion that Famous Dave's is my best chain experience at CP by far. I don't know what they do different, but the staff there seems totally opposite of what I experienced (for the most part) at Melt.

We tried to go to Melt one evening (since we were at CP for 4 nights) and even tho the place wasn't full, the attitude and response we got from a "greeter" was abysmal. I'm pretty sure she said something like almost 2 hours for a table? We said forget it, and told ourselves we'd try again another time. We made it back to try again probably 2 days later, and did get a table. There was no wait, but we had to actively approach the greeter desk to try to get their attention. Once again, a miserable person. Luckily, our waiter was really nice, and was friendly. Took quite a while to get our food, probably almost 30 minutes? My sandwich was fantastic, but was actually too big for me to finish (we still had coasters to ride...) and something I learned, was Melt sandwiches do not reheat well in a Breakers microwave, hah. We did enjoy walking around and looking at all the old photos and memorabilia also.

As good as the sandwich was, I don't know if it's worth the hassle and attitude to try again, unless they get some employees working the front who seem to give a damn and aren't bothered by actually having...*gasp*...customers!

I've had long waits and not very attentive staff at Melt Cleveland Hts. and Melt Mentor. Didn't Melt people train and open the CP location? I wasn't impressed with some other Melt locations so the problem maybe Melt itself, not CP.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Entirely possible. I've never been to any other Melt locations, but I do remember hearing before it opened that it was to be ran how Melt would want it ran with one of them overseeing the operations at the CP spot.

We have two in Columbus now and they're busy, popular places. But most of my friends eschew the notion of ever going. (I'd go more often but I never have a date.) As F1rePhant0m notes, it helps if you're a big eater and like freak sandwiches with big slabs of bread. Or just be prepared to leave some behind, (and I was trained to not waste food.) I usually use an additional small plate and do a bit of reconstruction before I dig in and that helps.

The problem isn't Melt. Just like the problem isn't Panda Express, Chick Fil A, etc. The foods department at Cedar Point pile drives 90% of any food venture into the ground. We've been through this conversation hundreds of times. It cannot be rocket science to figure out how to serve mass numbers like the daily visitors Cedar Point if there are hundreds of other parks and chains that get it right every day. We tried Melt in June and there were about seven waiters/waitresses standing at the front counter doing nothing. It took five minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. We were sat near the kitchen where we witnessed a Cedar Point supervisor and employee argue over tables.

Food was ok but again, it's every where. The food stands are atrocious (don't even get me started on the kiosks), the sit down places inside the park suck, and yet Famous Dave's and Bay Harbor operate fine.

I don't get it.
