Mean Streat Lap Bars

OK, Has anyone else rode Mean Streak this week and notice that the ride-ops are now "lowering" the lap bar for everyone on the ride now, instead of having the riders do it for themselves? We waited in line for the front, so we were in the station for quite awhile, and it seemed like more often than not the operators were yelling into the microphones to "not touch the lap bar, we will do it for you!" Altogether it just seemed the whole loading process was slowed down.

Does anyone have any idea why all of a sudden they have to personally lower the lap bar for you? As far as I remember, in regular three train operation, when one train was cresting the final hill and returning to the station, one was also cresting the lift. With this new lap bar policy there was always a train stacking, and after the ride, it seemed as if we waited on the brakes for 2 minutes before getting back into the station...any ideas as to why the sudden change?

AHHH! Not another ride! They must have caught the same lapbar/OTSR/restraint 'bug' that the Mantis crew did.

Oh god - not more of this crap.

Whoever is coming up with these ridiculous changes (and I honestly don't know who it is) really needs to just go away already.

^I couldn't agree with you more! This is simply getting out of control! Mantis, Skyhawk, Mean Streak.... I can only imagine what's next.

Hasn't Six Flags had problems with their ops missing lap bars in the past causing some pretty unsafe things to happen, such as guests flying out of trains? I'm not saying any CP ride ops would be this unattentive, but it makes you think. Plus, isn't one of the requirements for riding almost any ride at CP that you must be able to secure all restraints on your own?

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

I really donĀ“t know what Mean Streat is. Could someone please tell me?

Wow.

I'm not sure what kind of "extra safety" is needed on these rides, but having ride ops individually lower lapbars sounds about as specious as all get out.

Wow.

Matt,

I'll give you 3 guesses, and the first 2 don't count. Of course, that's all speculation about the 'SS' invading Mean Streak. ;)

Soon, guests hands will be bound before boarding, and Ride Hosts will do all the restraint work...

After the restraints are properly secured, guests hands will be bound to the grab bar.

Enjoy your ride!

I don't see any real logic to these new policies. I know they are trying to guard their legal a**es, but seriously, people know how to pull down a lapbar, and a host should know how to "check" a lapbar.

I didn't even think that they were already doing the same thing on Skyhawk, but now that you mention it, they are. They tell everyone to put their hands up so they can get a good staple on you. I staple myself before that because I don't want some pudgy attendentant getting a "running start" with all his/her weight behind it coming at my ummmmm, stomach.

But then again sometimes I used to buckle my own seatbelt on Mantis. Then I saw that they'd sometimes unbuckle it and rebuckle it, rather than just pulling on it. So I stopped buckling it. I don't want to slow them down any more than I have to. These policies do that well enough on their own.

Maybe MS will have a line this year. ;)

Let me tell you, after riding El Toro this past weekend, NOTHING will compare to that "stapling" experience...ever.

I grew up on Mean Streat....:)

Yes, everytime I've ridden it since they started doing this I've wound up with a rather uncomfortable ride...

They push down way to hard on Skyhawk, if it happens again I will complain. I don't like to do that, but it really was a way to much. I'm surprised I did not piss blood after Tuesday's ride.

If you pull the bar down yourself they have less of a distance to get up speed and smash you.

But, I agree, they're really throwing their weight behind it and it's excessive.

I don't know why they don't let you pull down your own on skyhawk and just come around and check them.

The last time I was on it, several people complained that they're restraint was too tight, (mine was too, but I didn't say anything...) to which a ride op replied to them "deal with it." I'm guessing the ride op was just having a bad day, but still...
