I heard that they changed Mean Streak's first drop trims, they are higher up and you can't even notice them, is this true?

I noticed them on Monday!
I noticed them this year...
I was on the Mean Streak on Wednesday, and I sure noticed them. I was in the second car and when we were going over the top of the first hill, it almost felt like we were going to stop. Those trim brakes are such a joke. No wonder why nobody goes on that ride anymore. All throughout the ride you can easily tell where they are. Trim brakes are littered through the whole ride. What a waste of all that timber.
I "loved" the Mean Streak until this year. I was a big advocate for the ride...until this year. The reason for my change of heart...I got front seat, first car. I never noticed the trims before although I knew they were there. I loved the ride...until this year. When I was actually able to see the trims and feeling them as I went over the first hill, my heart sank. Will I still ride the Mean Streak? Yes I will. Will I still enjoy the Mean Streak? Yes I will...just not as much as I had used to.
Mean Streak...Trims down first hill...Still a "decent" ride, Still an awesome site. Mantis...Trims down first hill...Still an awesome ride, and one of my favorites in the park!

The saddest thing of all is on the first turn. Instead of Force pushing you to the outside of the turn, you fall back into the inside. Mine Ride dose a better job!
RBLV- what do you mean brakes littered throughout whole ride?! 2 spots: 1st drop and mid-course. It's just so slow, you think there are more!

I have two words that could fix this problem : Millennium Flyers.

And without a lot of expenditures as well. A Lightning Racer/Roar-type experience would boost MS way back up on my personal rankings! As it stands, I'll probably do Mean Streak once this year just to say that I did.
Incidentally, everything that is said about Mean Streak goes double for Dorney's Hercules. There, the trims are so strong, sometimes it feels more like the CP&LE RR. Must be a CF thing.

Hey guys, I'm back!
Here's what I don't get... We all know that the unlubed trains don't slide through the turns so they grind and create grooves in the road steel. That causes vibration and so on and so forth. Supposedly, this is why they slow the thing down.
Now, take your Raven or Legend, which fly around turns at high speed (see: spiral drop and double helix on Legend), and some how manage to stay together and stay smooth with a little love from their track maintenance guy.
Am I missing something? Is it really about the trains and lubrication?

Futuristic bow-wow... do the dog catcher!
I think it's all about lube. Heck, there's a grease gun strapped to the Raven just uptrack of the brakes. The PTC trains, as well as Gerstlauers, simply can't take a turn without some help. When the wheels can't steer, they have to slide. That's why they squeal around turns. The PTC train was designed mainly for an out-and-back course.
As for HW, Jeff ,the keeper of the Raven and Legend, was formerly a CCI employee that went full time for HW. They're his babies and he takes good care of them.
I see a post from Rideman in the near future :)

Is it just me, but is SFWoA keeping better care of Villain than CP takes care of MS.
Will somebody right a nice note to CP telling them about how the trims on MS, I know, I know, you think that there just gonna go "will its for maintence reasons". Well, if more people right in, and there good notes (examples, statistics, all that fancy stuff) then we have a good chance of makinf MS what it is supposed to be. Anyway, a coaster SHOULDN'T have trim brakes!!!
its the ride, not the records

I suspect part of the problem w/ MS is both the length of track, and the amount of elevated track. The amount of turns don't help, either.
After a rain, I often hear PTCs singing through turns. Rarely does it become a MS-like squeal, though.
I think the trims are more to prevent high force loading from deforming the lower boards, actually.
Rollerfan, your idea about writing in is not a bad idea. But, not to slam you, if you do write in, make sure that you use the right form of write in your letter. Also, make sure that your letter is profession looking, and all of the words are spelled correctly. That will probably get you more attention.
Jeff maybe right. Maybe one year they really need to take a good look at the thing, and maybe get a different style of trains like Legend or what not. (Gerastular? sp?) They could eventually fix this thing and reopen it to mass reviews. ;)
Except that Gerstlauers track essentially the same as the PTCs, and are just a smidge lighter. (A PTC two-bench weighs around 1.5 tons per car, empty)
You need something like GCI's Millennium Flyers, except they only sell those with a coaster.
They only sell them with a coaster? I'm sure there has to be a way around that one... of course that would require some... uh... "creativity."

ya know, it's not even just the brakes or how rough it is. tha fact is that it's a boring layout! Even if the Villian or Shiv. Timbers was rough, it would at least still be a thrilling ride!!! I say tear that thing down and put in a roller coaster...er...wait...
Though I love the Villain at SFWoA and Legend at Holiday World, the Gerstlauer trains on MS would be, well... OUCH. I have read numerous posts of people complaining about the hard padding in the PTC trains, well the Gerstlauer's are even harder. Also, even though they have redesigned the lap bars, they still pound your legs pretty good. As for the GCI Millennium Fliers, I would think that those trains would be pretty heavy, which would be even harder on the MS structure than the present PTC's are. Maybe the solution lies with Intamin's new track technology for wooden coasters. However, I am skeptical as Mean Streak was smooth it's first year (like the Intamin Hyper-Woodie in Europe, and look what happened.
