Mean Streak-Is it just me or......

or has Mean Streak gotten a lot better this year. I think I actually experienced airtime on 3-count em-3 of the hills! If you sit in the middle of the train (4.2 actually) it's not that rough at all, and you get airtime. I remember halfway through the ride thinking "wow, Mean Streak is actually beginning to act like a real wooden coaster" So I was just wondering if I was the only one who noticed this, and please, try to keep your flaming me to a minimum ;)
I agree, it doesn't seem that bad this year. Maybe its due to the retracking in the off-season? By the way, did you notice if they have the ride-on photos working yet?

I also agree...Maybe Meanstreak got new wheels that makes the ride a little bit more smooth and a whole lot better.

Mean Streak ROCKS this year.. It is slowly becoming a favorite of mine again ;-)

I rode it on opening day and I too think it ran better/smooth from the last time I've rode it.

About the on-ride photos. Yesterday they were not operating.
It felt like it was running too smooth opening day. Call me crazy, but I liked it a little rougher. On ride photos were open opening day. What happened to em.
On ride photos were up opening weekend plus a few more days. I rode MS 7 times where usually I'm walking away after the second. If you think that ride is good where you'd been riding it, go front seat in the green train. Best seat on the ride!

I sat near the back of the train May 19 and it was not smooth at all. I have always noticed that Mean Streak is more enjoyable in the very front or the middle. The back is the worst. The ride does seem to go faster on some of the turns. It may have to do with all the rain the Midwest has recieved this month.

MS is the roughest wooden coaster I have ever been on. I prefer the traditional out and back woodies like Shivering Timbers at Michigan's Adventure.

Coasterzak, why the green train? Did they originally have only 2 train and they installed a third.. the green? *** Edited 5/23/2004 10:23:40 PM UTC by rathofdoom***

About the on-ride photos, I was there from the 10-14 and every day they were working. Dunno what happened to them......
The photos were working when I was there too. Of the two rides I had on it the first was really rough and I had to sit forward in the seat or I would just get battered against the back. The second was completely different. Smooth and a few spots of air. Maybe I was sitting over the wheels on the first ride?

I agree that MS is running much better this year.

Rathofdoom, too bad you never rode Hercules at Dorney in Pennsylvania. That was the most awful, rough coaster I have ever been on. I couldn't wait for it to end.

When I got off of Hercules, I swore that I would never bad mouth MS again.

I would have to agree with everyone that MS is running pretty good this season (so far). Granted, I wasn't able to ride before the trim brakes were added to the first drop, so I really can't say that it's back to its old self. But I do know one thing that was different from last year, the trains were booken through the layout.

It's kinda funny that this all of the sudden happened. I think some of it might be psycological. I'll tell you from experience that I have had smoother rides on MS this year as well, but I think that part of it is that I'm getting used to it. The other reason might be is that I have realized that if you don't put your back on the backrest, wedge your feet under the seat in front of you, you will get a better ride because you are absorbing ALOT of the shock.

But then again, I could be wrong. Maybe CP did something to the trains or something? Not trying to be a killjoy or anything, just an observation.

They didn't fix the trains, they fixed the track. And some of us have learned how to keep off the seat back. You know that when I ride that thing, there's probably 2" of space between me and the seatback.

Which seems to suggest that for Mean Streak, no seat back at all is needed. If no seat back at all is needed, then why in the @#$! does that train have headrests???

Mean "creeeeeek" is running pretty cool this year---at least up until the midway brake----think of it this way -----two rides in one - 1-hardcore wooden coaster till midcourse---and2--midsized family coaster on second half

I am going to agree that the Mean Streak seems to be running a little bit smoother this year. However, maybe I'm just not used to it yet this year, lol. Actually it was good and smooth just about the whole ride. But it seems thats nothing can stop the area right after the brakes in the middle of the ride with that big swooping left hand banked curve from being pretty bad. I was definitely leaning forward from my seat and crying out for some relief, lol. But I can't complain, its still a really fun ride and thats why I got on, to get beat up. Its hard to choose between that and the Blue Streak, but I know that the new wooden roller coaster that there going to build next year will be the best, lol.
