Mean Streak Fans?

I actually don't mind the roughness at all. However, the trim breaks are quite excessive.
I like the roughness of Mean Streak, but I do not like the trim breaks.... every time I ride it I'm like, "c'mon go... go down the hill already!" :)
I agree totally. Remove the trim brakes from Mean Streak and you have a good old fashioned bumpy wooden coaster ride. There's nothing wrong with the roughness. When I get on a wooden coaster, I come to expect the rough ride. Now, Magnum on the other hand, well, that's a different story ;)
you know what would make it better.if they took the trim's of the first drop it would make it better. the frist that makes the ride start of bad
The trims are there for a reason and making the ride "smoother" for passengers is not it. They are there to help keep the ride from tearing itself apart.

I never have ridden it trimless. I wish I could have, "back in the day".

Personally I love a good wooden coaster, even if it means coming off with a few bruises. My problem with MS is not the roughness, it's the lack of anything else. It has virtually no air time, no laterals, and the trims at the top of the lift are an absolute sin. Question for anyone who knows. The ride ops still state that MS reaches "speeds of 70 miles per hour". I am guessing that this was the speed prior to the trims on the lift hill. Does anyone know the actual speed now ? *** Edited 7/26/2004 5:52:29 PM UTC by Downhill Screamer***

Gravity is good

I too hate the way the ride crawls along with the trims these days, but i still ride it every time i visit just in hope that one time i will get an amazing ride without the trims like i got the very first year it opened.

The Mean Streak has always been one of my favorites. I ride it for the purpose of getting thrown around, that's why it has that clever name. It was great the first few years, but then they toned it down the point of boredom and last season it seemed to be running at it's slowest. But I noticed this year it feels like it's almost back to what it was meant to be... rough and fast!

it fun better speed. go around the end of the seson they sometimes take them off
That ride is long! You really get your money's worth on it!
MS is an "okay" ride that used to be much better. My last summer working at CP was Mean Streaks' first year (1991) and there was definitely a longer feeling of speed that now is pretty much gone after the first drop. Trim brakes and just the course of time have made the ride slower (and on cold days the natural "roughness" of it being a wooden coaster, is intensified and takes away from the ride) and not much more than the "wooden equivalent" of Iron Dragon! It would be pretty cool if CP could "revise" MS, arch track over perimeter road and run along the water for awhile before crossing back over and cruising into the station. If necessary, there could've been a second lift hill so that the ride could finish with some speed. Oh well, I guess what it is now is what will have to do!

Does anyone know the actual speed now ?

According to RCDB, the speed is 65 mph.

It certainly isnt 65 now with the way it creeps over the first two turns.

That is the original, "official" speed of the Mean Streak, but with the trim breaks, it runs considerable slower.

RCDB is a good little informational site, especially for info on international coasters. Great photos of Avalanche Run before it was a "Disaster." Check out those '85 clothing styles! I sure do miss pulling my striped socks up to my knees!

I was there on opening day for this coaster. Waited 2 hours at night w/ 1 train operation. Not a single light was installed yet to light up the ride. What a thrilling ride it was that night and for the 1st couple years it was opened. It was a shame when they installed those 1st hill trims. Was at CP May 19 this year w/ a friend. I told him to be prepared to be thrown forward on the 1st hill! Well, to my amazmament the 1st hill trims were off!!! 1st time in 8 years that I have ridden that these ride killers were off. Rode it 1st hill trimless 3 more times that hour. I have been back to CP 3 more times this summer and have not been as fortunate. Hopefully they can due something to it structurally, so it will remain trimless like I remember.

<p> Still think it is a good ride. By far it is #1 on best looking ride. Just an amazing looking structure.

Went to Cedar Point today, sat in the back row, at around 11:45 AM rode the gold train and to my surprise the trim brakes on the first hill were off! It was really going fast too! i have no idea why they wern't on. The green train was not running yet either...but later in the afternoon got a few more rides and three trains running, with trim brakes back on.
Mean Streak is my favorite ride at CP. Sometimes on a hot day, the trains are speeding along so fast, that it feels wild and out of control, and it seems that the train will fly off the track. I love it.
The bumps and roughness of the ride makes it exciting. I love this ride so much, that my screen name was chosen because of Mean Streak. When my kids were small, they would walk past Mean Streak and say "that coaster is the color of ginger". I thought that comment was so cute, so I chose Ginger as my nickname.

I always wondered what kind of out cry there would be if they actually decided to tear down Mean Streak. Would people actually care, or would they pretend to care?

I mean I can understand tearing down Disaster Transport, or for structural purposes down the line Wicked Twister (heck that part of the park is cursed for coasters in my book)

Remember the final weekends of Schwabinchen, everyone jumped on the bandwagon. I just miss it becuase I got a 8in model of the the woman.

If they tore down Mean Streak I'd be very sad. I'd be the first one there to take a few pieces of the wood as a keepsake. I have several pieces of wood and bricks from defunct amusement parks.
