Mean Streak and GCI

My, my, my. What time and costs can do to good things.

Cedar Point, the cure for the Summertime blues!

I would love to see a, less rough, more airtime filled Mean Streak.

If your Mini Mean Streak comes out to be true, it would be neat if they put it inside the structure of Mean Streak. Ya know how it forms a circle shape. It would be neat if it was inside the circle shape, if there is any room at all. Oh well, I just thought I would let my imagination run wild for a little bit there.

Mean Streak is a pretty good ride. It really isn't that bad if you sit in the front of each car. However it has many different problems that need to be addressed. One of the biggest problems that the ride has is that the trains are way to heavy. If the trains were lighter (similar to the Legned or Raven) Mean Streak could be greatly improved. Lighter trains would elimante great amount of stress that is placed on the structure. If there is less stress than you could elimante the trim brakes on the hill. Personaly, (along with eryone else) I hate Mean Streaks trim's, and I feel that if they were elimanted the Ride could have the potential to be a great coaster once again.
I rode Mean Squeak... erm... Streak for the first time Saturday night, and I can say that the ride has potential. The trims truly kill any airtime off that initial drop. I love the wood flying by you, it's just great. The roughness, IMO, isn't too bad, but it's bad enough for some people. And one last thing... The squeaky noise! That thing is louder than... well something really loud!

First of all, I dont get the hype around the Millennium Flyer trains. After riding Lightning Racer for the first time on Tues., I can tell all of you who haven't been on them that there not all that great. They track almost too well, and the lap-bars suck horribly. They fall down worse than Magnums. Wildcat's newer PTC's on the other hand kicked serious ass.

Yes, but the crap about "falling" lap bars is, well, crap. It's something for enthusiasts to complain about, because if a ride will give it, you'll get air time unless you've been deliberately stapled.

O trust me Jeff, it still delivered in the airtime category.:) The thing is, I dont see the point of wasting a ton of money on Millennium Flyer trains when the newer PTC models would do just as well, if not better.

Unless GCI is involed in a coaster project (like a rennovation of Mean Streak), the Millennium Flyer trains are NOT available. They do not have their own manufacturing facilities like PTC, so they do no offer their trains unless they are building the coaster as well.

I agree with you Ejector. I also made my first trip to Hershey on Sunday and Monday. While I liked the Millennium Flyer trains, I did not like the lapbars all that much. Of course, on my first ride, I got stapled very hard. I did like Wildcat's lapbars a lot more (got stapled my first ride on that too), but did not like the trains as well. Personally, I think MS needs a lot more than new trains, but if it ever got that new support work, I think new trains would also be nice.

Just because you can't justify charging $3 for a Pepsi doesn't mean you can't charge $3 for a Pepsi.

What does having their own manufacturing ability have to do with anything? They would just throw money away and not offer something they already have the design for? I don't buy that at all.

To quote an article from Roller Coaster Magazine (Summer 2000) entitled "Great Coasters International's Millennium Flyers!"

"Because Great Coasters in not a car manufacuturer, the company does not have it's own manufacturing facility. According to Mike Boodley, GCI developed its own car solely because of "our need for such a vehicle to work on our rides." At present, he has no plans to sell the cars for use on non-GCI rides."

Buy that.

I say(never ridden Mean Streak) that they add a lil more supports and get some PTC's with lapbars that locka nd can't move once locked. That would be great. The layout looks fine to me though, and you can't take a covered double helix from Beast it was ours first!

I don't care what he said in 2000... if someone asks them to build them I doubt very much they wouldn't.

Jeff, you just read my mind. I was thinking the same thing.

So what's better; skydiving or riding in Raptor's front seat?
