Mean Streak and GCI

Ok, here's my idea... CP should contact GCI to work on improvements for Mean Streak, so CP can once again have a top 10 woodie. GCI could do some reprofiling, or whatever it takes to improve the ride, then add thier Millennium Flyer trains. When this is done, CP could market the whole thing with a new Mean Streak logo, a new commercial like "Come ride the new, improved Mean Streak, now smoother, faster and longer!" Also, while working with GCI, they could add a kiddie woodie dubbed "Little Streak" in Kiddie Kingdom (the only kiddieland without a coaster) I can see it all now!!!! One can dream can't he?
Didn't CCI close? It is CCI, right? Not GCI?
No there is also a GCI.
I believe that Mike Boodly has already done some work on Mean Streak, the first turn if I am not mistaken.

I believe that in addition to increased structural support (which is the primary reason for the trims), Intamin and their new track design is what is best for Means Streak. At least the new track might allow for a reduction in trimming and a much smoother ride. As for a top ten ride, Mean Streak has never been a top ten ride. The first half without brakes is fun, but the second half is too flat, the curves to wide, overall fast but dull.

I had some very good rides on MS, and my mom even liked it! Ijust had to tell her to lean forward...we rode it the most of any coaster on Thursday.

Apparently the problems with MS is not just the track, but structurally it has problems. I don't really know any more than this though.

I rode it Thursday with my best friend (who's never been to CP) and we both couldn't stand it! From the first drop to the end, it was just plain horrible. I was thinking all day after we rode it, how awesome it would be for CCI to retrack it and fix it up, but then came home to the horrible news Saturday night about their closing. I rank it the worst coaster as of now, with Mantis right next to it on the list.

Could you imagine...new for 2003: A retracked Mean Streak (Intamin or GCI) and Mantis converted to a floorless with a brand new fresh paint job. Ahhhhh, that would make the World's Best Amusement Park even better :)

I have always been a fan of MS but after riding it a week ago, I have decided that it is just too rough. True, woodies are not suppose to be as smooth as a steel coaster but MS is just too far gone. For a coaster that looks so beautiful especially at night, it is too bad that CP hasn't done something about it.

I haven't been to PKI recently but I expect that the Beast is doing just fine and doesn't beat up it's riders. And to think it is probably 20 years old or close to that.

GCI stands for Great Coasters International.

Mean Streak could be a top ten ride if they put in the Millennium Flyer trains and redo the track or something like that to make it smoother. They should keep the first half of the ride but maybe make the first drop taller and steeper. At the end, put in some camelbacks and a enclosed helix like on the Beast. That would be a great ride.

Still it would be easier to tear it down and put in a new GCI or Intamin woodie.

Why tear down a great coaster!?! All it needs is a little work and it could be one of the best rides in the park!
Mean Streak used to be fabulous. Wit htrims, its not as mean, but I still get good rides. I think MS is a moody coaster. You have to wait for the right time for a great ride.

------------------
I own you!

I can never seem to find that right time...I rode twice on my trip there last week and the trim brakes were at probably a medium compression.

When Mean Streak was first opened, the top speed was advertised as 67mph. Last week, the ride ops said the speed was 55mph. Thats how much those first drop brakes are affecting the ride. No wonder the ride is just a shadow of it's former self.

I am hurt, gang. What's all this "used to fabulous talk?" I will agree that I think the ride is faster without the trims, but it's still my favorite ride in the park. This season there have been a few times that I have gone on Mean Streak and actually had to wait, which is a good sign. I am glad to see Mean Streak attract more people. On the other side, if you don't like the ride, get out of my way. Mean Streak is to me what Maggie is to Dan.

Frankly, I thought the Beast was ALMOST as rough as MS when I got my first ride on it during CBuzz Con.

I still say that those who know how to ride it enjoy it more when it's trimless.

I don't think the Beast is rougher then Mean Streak rather it is a lot more forceful then mean streak. The laterals are just so intense.

That intensity was there when I rode the uncasterated version. Either that or a coaster was a lot more vicious to a 11 year old then a 22 year old.

Welcome back Magnum riders how was your ride?

all mean streak needs is a little tlc. it is kind of brain rattling, but its not complete crap, like wolverine wildcat.
As a 48 year old (and one who has been riding Mean Streak for years), I don't think age has anything to do with it. It's how you position yourself to ride.

My husband got off the Beast with a major headache after his first ride. I, on the other hand, rode ragdoll and survived just fine.

The Beast's intensity reminded me of Mean Streak back in the early days before it was trimmed to prevent tearing itself apart. Mean Streak is a shadow of it's former self.

Hey! It was 4 years ago, but when I went on Wolverine Wildcat that was alot of fun! :P

If there are structural problems, then why don't they fix it? Won't beefing up the supports help?

If they fix the structure, is would be a huge undertaking, costing millions. They probably won't do it, or haven't yet, because if they spend all that money, what's to say for sure that their problems will go away? Then they are millions in the hole, and are right back where they started. Not to mention that maintenance costs will still remain a factor, just like any woodie.
