mean streak?

Is there any talk about CP fixing mean streak?
The spend every offseason "fixing" Mean Streak.
Trouble is it all goes back to that one season when they "fixed" Mean Streak...in the veterinary sense.

LOL Dave. That sums it all up there! Mean Streak lost it's mojo!

It's probable that this has been discussed in some previous thread, so forgive me if it has. Why is it that the Texas Giant, which was also designed by Summers & Dinn, consistently rank as one of the better woodies out there whereas the Mean Streak is no where to be found? They both appear similar in design (twisting v. out & back). Since the Texas Giant first debued in 1990, one year prior to Mean Streak, you would think it should have at least been equal to if not rank higher?!

Does anyone know if CP has any plans to really bring Mean Streak into top form or if they have plans to raze it and replace it with a better less maintenance-expensive wooden coaster? I'd hate to see MS go and not be replaced with another tower of wood. I mean, with such a definite unmistakeable voice of concern from the GP - complaints, low ridership - how could CP not be concerned and more so, not be planning somthing for MS?

Is the ridership really that low? The last time I went by it, mid-afternoon on Aug 21 or so (a midweek day), the wait was listed as 1.5 hours, so I passed.
1.5 hours? Oh wow, thats really long for MS. I waited and hour for it in 96', and thats the longest I have ever waited for Mean Streak.

I'd like to hear some opinions about what could make it better. In my opinion it might be almost *too* long. And the squealing! Oh, the squealing! On my next trip I'm going to take some ear plugs because I know I'll end up riding MS...I tend to forget all the reason I swores I'd never ride it again once I see it!

In my opinion the only thing missing from Mean Streak is airtime, and that's because of the VERY liberal use of trim breaks. From what I understand they use the breaks because of the condition of the track. I don't understand why they don't put a bit of money into the monster, fix the track, bring it up to top form and let it go. I still enjoy it, but a trimless MS seems like it would kick major butt.
Apparently the problem isn't the track, but the supports being poorly designed. "Fixing" it would take a major reprofiling of the ride and would cost a lot of $$. The reason they don't do this is because if they attempt to fix it, what's to say that it fixes the problems? They just dumped millions into a coaster and it had no effect.

They have 6 full time carpenters working on this ride and dump around $100,000 in it a year. That's just routine maintenance...if they fix it, that price tag will add up with the maintenance of every year.

It's not a top rated coaster, but people still ride it. If they took off the trims it still wouldn't be as rough as The Beast, but everything at CP is so smooth that any ride not to that smoothness is considered rough.

Well, we have already had multiple threads on this topic, I believe Mean Streak is as good as it gets, for right now. Perhaps they could pull a Kennywood (I know, it was cheesy, sorry :) ) and reprofile Mean Streak like they did with Steel Phantom. If the problem is the supports, they could just redo part of the ride, slowly but surely, until its all done.

I was there that same day!

I walked right on all day long!

Somone messed with the sign at entrance and I rarely see anyone try and fix it. Mean Streak line is always 1/1/2 hours then ;).
They need to do something. I was there is July and was the only one on it- literally -the only one on the train. Well it was 10:00pm, so I guess most of the rides are empty, but still!
Thats just sad. One person on the train...

Maybe some padding on the back of the head rests or what ever they are called, instead of that plastic...I have hit my head one to many times on that and it does give me quite a headache after...I even try to avoid hitting my head on it and I still manage to do it...I think something softer right there would be good

That depends on your point of view... I wouldn't mind being the only one on a train, even if it was MS. One more thing I can brag about to my friends ;)

Hey Millenniumrider, I was the only one on Magnum for 9 rides in a row without getting off during JCC ERT last summer. That was very cool, rode in both front and back seat.

Anyway, MS really isn't that bad if you keep your back off the seat. However, the GP doesn't know this, therefore, they have written it off as unbearably rough, and won't ride it again (people I know, anyway). I agree that some nice, thick padding on the back of the seats would make the ride much more bearable, or maybe new trains, but it will never be great as long as the trims are there. I've only got one trimless ride this year, and it was absolutely amazing. Without the trims, and keeping my back off the seat, it is one of the top 5 rides in the park. The laterals are insane, and believe it or not, there is airtime to be had on MS without trims.

Who finally met the infamous Magnum Dan!

I went yesterday (sunday) and the line was 3/4 of an hour. Of course I waited, but only because there were people i was w/ that hadn't ridden it and don't come to CP often.
